Description

T. H. BOTTOMLEY. Door-Hanger.
. No. 223,985. Patented Feb. 3,1880.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THOMASH. BOTTOMLEY, OF GAPAO, MICHIGAN.
DOOR-HANGER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 223,985, dated February 3, 1880. Application filed August 9, 1879.
l o all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS H.BOT'1OM- LEY, of Oapac, in the county of St. Clair and State of Michigainhave invented an Improve ment in Door-Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
The nature of my invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in that class of devices employed for suspending rolling gates or doors; and the invention consists in the details of Construction of the various parts and their combinations, as more fully hereinafter set forth.
In the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this specification, and represents my invention in perspective, Arepresents a hanger or standard provided with an overhanging bearing-wheel, B, which is designed to travel upon the top of the rail D, and thereby suspend the door or gate to which the standard is secured. This rail D is provided upon its under side with the groove E, to receive the guide-wheel O, which rotates upon a bearing projecting from theface of the standard, 'as shown, and prevents the door or gate from swinging out of line.
It will be seen that both the bearing-wheel and the guide-whee1 are flat-faced sheaves, which are very cheap to construct and require no nice fit to be made with the rail. The upper part of the rail, upon which the bearingwheel runs, is also flat, so that the friction is reduced to the minimum, the guide-wheel alone preventing the outward movement of the hanger and being most of the time itself wholly out of contact with the groove in which it moves.
What I claim as my invention is The combination, with the rail D, having flat top and groove E on its under side, of the flat sheave-hanger composed of plate A, flat bearing-wheel B, and flat guide-wheel 0, both of said wheels revolving vertically on horizontal studs projecting from such plate, constructed and arranged substantially as described and shown.
THOS. .H. BOTTOMLEY.
