REGULATOR FOR CURTAINS AND BLINDS Filed June 15, 19-40 2 Sheets-Sheet l reorye Past" va Jan 28, 1941. G. PASTVA EfiQQSSS REGULATOR FOR CURTAINS A ND BLINDS Filed June 15, l940 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Patented Jan. 28, 1941 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to window shades and curtains and more particularly a regulator for curtains and blinds.
One of the objects of this invention resides in the provision of means whereby curtains and blinds can be adjusted perpendicularly relative to Windows, doors or the like.
Another object of this invention resides in the particular association of the curtain and blind supporting carriage with the stationary guide bracket.
A further object of this invention resides in the particular association of the cords and latch.
A still further object of this invention resides in the particular association of the gripping straps with the cords.
Aside from the foregoing objects this invention relates to the particular form of latch.
Among the man objects of this invention is the particular association of the blind brackets with the carriage.
With these and other objects in view this in-- vention resides in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of elements to be hereinafter more particularly set forth in the specification, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the pending claim and, while this disclosure depicts my present conception of the invention, the right is reserved to resort to such changes in construction and arrangement of parts as come within the scope of the claim.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this application:
Fig. 1 is an inside view of a portion of a window showing the elements of this invention secured in operative position thereon.
Fig. 2 is a diagrammatic view of the cord and sheaves employed to raise and lower the carriage.
Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view approximately on line 3-4 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a horizontal sectional view approximately on line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the stationary bracket per se.
Fig. 6 is a view on enlarged scale of a central portion of Fig. 3, parts being broken away.
Fig. 7 is a View partly in section of a gripping member or handle for the operating cords.
In the present illustration of this invention the letter A designates a window frame provided with a window sash B of the conventional type.
Secured to the opposite sides of the window frame as by screws 5 or the like are stationary brackets 6 having the major portions of their side edges bent upon themselves to form guide channels 'I in which are slidably disposed carriages 8 supporting curtain rod supporting members 9 and shade or blind supporting members Ill and, while carriages are herein specifically described for carrying curtain and blind members, it is within the purview of this invention to secure other similar members for supporting window draperies and the like.
Suitably supported adjacent the opposite ends of each stationary bracket are sheaves l I trained over which are cords I2 and 13, the former of which has its free ends connected to the carriages as at M so as to simultaneously raise the same while the latter of which has its free ends connected to the suitable latches l5 carried by the carriage and normally seated in apertures It in the stationary bracket, said cord 13 being adapted to simultaneously release the latches and pull the carriage downwardly.
Adjustably carried at the medial portion of each cord is a gripping strap or loop l1.
Formed on the stationary brackets adjacent the upper ends thereof are loops l8 through which the cords are guided.
With this invention fully described it is manifest that mean-s are provided for regulating or adjusting window curtains, blinds and the like relative to window frames and, through the simplicity of the elements set forth, positive operation thereof is not only ensured but the cost of manufacture will be sufiiciently cheap to warrant selling the same at a reasonable price.
Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
A window curtain and blind regulator comprising, channel shaped stationary brackets having apertures therein, sheaves secured thereon adjacent opposite ends thereof, slidable carriages disposedon the stationary brackets, curtain and blind rod supporting members carried by the carriages, latches carried by the carriages and normally engaging apertures in the stationary bracket, guide loops secured to the stationary brackets adjacent certain sheaves mounted thereon, a cord connected to the carriages and trained over certain sheaves and through the guide loops for simultaneously raising the carriages, a second cord connected to the latches and trained over certain other sheaves and through the guide loops for simultaneously releasing the latches and lowering the carriages and hand grips adjustably secured to the medial portion of the cord.
GEORGE PASTVA.
