:Patented Jan. 14, 1941 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE JUICE nxmao'ron Erich Heinrich, Detroit, Mich. Application October 14, 1938, Serial No. 235,083
- 2 Claims. (01. 146-3) This invention appertains to new and useful improvements in juice extractors.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a juice extractor for extracting juice from fruits of various kinds which in operation will be more convenient and effective than present day extractors;
Another importantbobject of the invention is to provide an extractor of the character stated which in operation will not only take care of the juice and prevent waste thereof, but which in operation will also take care of the waste materials and effect an eflicient discharge of the same from the machine.
These and other important objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following specification.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 represents a vertical sectional view through the machine.
Figure 2 is a top plan view.
Figure 3 is a sectional view on the line 33 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a sectional view on the line 4-4 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that numeral 5 represents the shell through the side of which projects the switch 6 for controlling the motor I. The shell 6 is provided with the bottom plate 8. An annulus 9 is clamped about the motor I and tie bolts therefrom extend upwardly through the shoulder portion of the annular frame It) and also through the ring 1! which supports the dome or cover l2. Arms I! extend outwardly from the ring II and have upstanding pins ll thereon which extend into recesses of thickened portions I 5 of the dome l2. The pins ll are provided with shoulders l6 thereon with which spring detents H on the thickened portions l5 can engage to detachably hold the dome or cover in position.
A tubular part l8 depends from the top of the dome or cover 12 and surrounds an opening in 45 said top part and this tubular member is connected with portions of the dome or cover l2 by the reinforcing ribs IS. A feed tube 26 has a press fit in this tubular part I! and is adapted to receive the fruit or objects to be shredded or formed into pulp. This tube has its lower end but slightly spaced from the shredder plate 21 which has its top surface roughened as at 28 for shredding or pulping the fruit resting thereagainst in the tube 26. This plate 21 has a hub 55 21' which fits over the hub III of a fan 'H, the
hub of the fan being splined to the shaft 30 of the motor 1, said fan acting to keep the motor cool. The hub 21 is connected withthe hub 16 by means of a split spring ring 29v having a tongue 29' thereon which extends through slots in the hubs 21- and ID, as shown in Figure 4. The plate 21 forms the major part of the bottom of a circu-- lar extractor basket l9 which has its side wall flaring upwardly and provided with the perforations 2i and adjacent the top said side wall curves 10 inwardly and terminates in an overhang rim 20, the perforations stopping at the upper terminal of the outwardly flared part. Numeral 22 represents the pan from which extends the spout 23 through which the extracted juices can pass. 15 Said pan surrounds the basket ,and has a large centrally arranged opening surrounded by a flange which 'engages the upper end of the annular frame It] and a portion of the pan rests on the ring II. V 20 Numeral 24 represents the deflector plate having upturned end walls 25. The deflector plate 24 is carried by the lower portion of the tube 26 and said plate is formed with an upwardly extending tubular part 24' which fits over the lower 25 end of the tube 26 and is connected thereto bya pin and bayonet slot connection shown generally at 25'.
A i split collar-like structure 3| extends inclinedly from the dome l2 in substantially a 30 chordal direction. This collar 3| is split and provided with lugs through which a clamp screw 32 is disposed.
An ejector tube 33 extends through this collar and is held in place by the same. The tube ex- 35 tends into the dome l2 and partly into the basket l9 and has a thin lip forming portion 34 arranged adjacent a portion of the rim 20 of the basket.
As will be understood an object to be shredded or pulped is placed in the tube 26 so that it will rest on the roughened surface of the plate 21 and as the plate 21 with the basket revolves the fruit or other objects will be shredded or pulped and this pulp with the juice will be thrown by centrifugal force against the perforated walls of the basket and this centrifugal force will cause the juice to pass through the perforation and enter the pan 22 and pass therefrom through the spout 23 into the receptacle placed under the spout. The pulp collecting on the slide wall of the pan will climb up the same-due to the wall flaring outwardly and upwardly until the pulp reaches the inwardly and upwardly slopingpart of the wall which is not perforated. -At this point the upward movement of the particles or pulp will be retarded and the particles will begin to pack under the overhanging rim 20. The sharpened part or lip 34 of the discharge pipe 33 will enter this packed formation and as the pan revolves the pipe will scoop up the particles and they will pass through the pipe to the outer end thereof. A suitable container can be placed under the outer end of the pipe 33 to collect the dry pulp. Any particles of the: pulp missing the discharge tube will be driven oil the overhanging flange 20 and will fly into the curved edge portion of the cover or dome l2. Only a small percentage of the pulp, if any, will fail to pass through thetube 33.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A juice extractor comprising a supporting member, an extractor pan including a bottom forming plate having teeth on its upper surface and upwardly flaring annular side walls, the upper portion of which curves inwardly to provide an overhanging rim, the flaring portion having perforations therein, means for rotating the extractor pen, a hopper for holding an object from which the juice is to be extracted in contact with the upper portion of the plate, a second pan surrounding the extractor pan for receiving the juices passing through the perforations, the pulp thrown against the upwardly flaring side wall passing up said wail onto the inwardly curved portion, a cover device extending over the upper ends of the pans and carrying the hopper and a tube supported by the cover device and extending tangentially inwardly and downwardly through the cover device to a point adjacent and inwardly of the overhanging rim of the extractor pan for removing the pulp collecting at the rim.
2. A juice extractor comprising a vertically arranged casing, a motor supported in the casing and having its shaft vertically arranged and located at the top of the casing, an extractor pan having a bottom part formed of a horizontal plate having'teeth in its upper surface and an annular side wall flaring upwardly and then curving inwardly, the flaring part having perforations therein, the central portion of the pan being connected with the motor shaft to rotate therewith, a second pan supported from the top of the casing and surrounding the extractor pan and having a discharge spout, a cover member and means for removably supporting the same from the top of the casing and said cover member extending over the two pans, a hopper passing through the cover member and supported thereby and extending to a point adjacent the upper surface of the toothed plate for holding an object from which the juice is to be extracted on the plate, a baffle plate supported from the hopper and extending across the bottom forming part of the extractor pan slightly spaced above the same and having its edges curved upwardly and located adjacent the perforated part of the side wall of the extractor pan, a tangentially arranged discharge tube carried by the cover member and extending downwardly and inwardly therethrough to a point adjacent a rim portion of the extractor pan for receiving the pulp climbing upwardly along the side wall of the pan to the rim thereof.
