This invention appertains to new and useful improvements in means for mounting and securing in place electrical outlet boxes.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide supporting means for electrical outlet boxes which will permit the boxes tobe mounted in a quick, accurate and labor-saving manner.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a support for electrical outlet boxes which can be constructed cheaply and which will be durable and practical in use.
These and various other important objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following specification.
In the drawings,
Figure 1 presents a fragmentary front elevational view of the supporting means used in conjunction with an outlet box.
Figure 2 represents a sectional view taken substantially on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary horizontal sectional view looking downwardly on one of the brackets.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view through a studding looking at the front of one of the brackets.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of one of the brackets.
Referring to the drawings, wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen in Figure 1 that numerals 5-5 represent a pair of studdings between which the usual horizontal box supporting cross members 6-6 are disposed.
In carrying out the present invention, a pair of brackets such as are shown in Figure 5 are used in conjunction with the cross members 6-6, each of these brackets being generally referred to by numeral 1.
The bracket consists of a plate 8 apertured at an intermediate point as at 9. Through this aperture 9 can be driven a securing element In, the securing element being driven into the adjacent studding 5 as shown in Figure l.
The plate 8 is split inwardly from each end thereof and from each vertical edge portion of this slit a lug ll projects outwardly and from each horizontal edge portion meeting this slit, a horizontally disposed lug I2 is disposed.
As is clearly apparent in Figures 1 and 2, the lugs I] are engaged behind the cross members 6 and these cross members 6 rest upon the lugs l2 and as apparent in Figure 1, driven members l3 are driven at a slant through the end portions 5 of the cross members 6 and into the studdings 5.
As the thickness of the cross members 6 is known, the plate 8 can be driven into position so that the lugs II and I2 will allow for the thickness of the cross members 6 so that the outer 10 faces of the cross members 6 will be flush with the outer sides of the studdings 5-5.
The outlet box generally referred to by the numeral I4 has the upwardly and downwardly disposed lug l5 apertured to receive the screws 15 i6 which are driven into the cross members 6. Thus the box is supported so that its outer side will project beyond the studdings 55 and be substantially flush with the finished Wall.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the 2G invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter. 25
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is In combination, a pair of stud members, a pair of horizontal article supporting members disposed in parallel relation to each other be- 30 tween said stud members, a pair of spacing brackets interposed between the ends of the horizontal members and being secured to the stud members, said bracket members being provided with horizontally disposed lugs at their end por- 35 tions for engaging opposed sides of the horizontal article supporting members, said spacing brackets provided with lateral lugs disposed in a vertical plane to engage corresponding sides of the ends of the said horizontal article supporting mem- 4O bers, and driven elements disposed through the end portions of the horizontal article supporting members and into the stud members from the side thereof opposite from the sides bearing against the said last-mentioned bracket lugs. 45
MICHAEL J. GALLAGHER.
