This invention relates to improvements in typewriter desks and consists of the matters hereinafter described and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

Invoices, statements and other forms, which are more or less uniform as to the matter to be typed thereon, and are to be filled out in large numbers, are made in strips including a plurality of such forms. Said forms are defined by parallel, equally spaced lines of perforation extending transversely of the strip, which is folded back and forth upon itself along said lines of perforation in a zig-zag fold to provide a pack, as for example, one on the market known by the trade name FanfoldJ The strip of forms is fed to a typewriter, is filled out by the operator, and the typed form is detached from the strip at once, or the several forms comprising the strip are detached from each other by the typist or by another after all the forms on the strip have been lled out. One or more strips are used, depending upon the number of copies required and are produced by interfolded carbon strips, single carbon sheets or other carbon reproduction means.

The object of this invention.is to provide a typewriter desk which includes a compartment adapted to receive and store one or more zig-zag fold packs of the kind, disposed in proper relation, for the production o'f one or more copies, said compartment having an outlet through which a strip or strips may be threaded and delivered in aligned association with a typewriter 'on thedesk.

Another object of the invention is to provide for a typewriter desk a compartment of the kind embodied in a unit, which may be readily and "Fanfo1d compartment unit as it appears when separate from the desk and as viewed from the Tear.

Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view of the improved desk,the plane of the section being indicated by the line 3 3 of Figure 1.

Figure 4 is a fragmentary perspective view showinga modified form of the entry and outlet chamber of the "Fanfold compartment.

Referring now to that embodiment of the invention illustrated in the drawing: I0 indicates the improved typewriter desk. It is preferably fabricated of sheet metal, formed and connected as usual in metal furniture construction. The desk has a top II mounted on laterally spaced pedestals I2, I3, only one of which, namely, I2, as illustrated, is wide for containing drawers. Said pedestals have legs I2a, I2=t and I3, respectively. III indicates a horizontal platform for a typewriter fixed below the level of the desk top II between the pedestals I2, I3. Upon said platform is mounted a base I5 to which is adapted to be secured a typewriter, as shown in dotted lines at I6 in Figure 3.

I1 indicates the structure containing the socalled Fanfold compartment. Said structure is preferably, though not necessarily, made as a separate unit, as shown in Figure 2, 'and is adapted to be inserted between and secured to the two pedestals I2 and I3. It comprises upright, fore and aft spaced back and rear walls I8, I9, respectively, anda bottom wall 20. Said walls are of a length to bridge the space between the pedestals I2 and I3 to which they are secured in any convenient manner as by iianges I8, I9, 20a. The rear wall I8 of the structure thus becomes the rear panel of the-desk between the pedestals. The unit is preferably given supplemental support by a hollow bar I8x which is iixed to and extends between the pedestals, as shown in Figure 3.

ZI, 2| indicate vertical laterally spaced plates which extend between and are secured to the rear and front walls I8, I9 of the Fanfold unit. Said walls define a compartment 22 below the position to be occupied by the typewriter I6. 'I'he lateral spacing of the walls 2l, 2| is such as to accommodate the widest strips of a Fanfold pack intended to be used in thetypewriter for which the desk is designed. 23 indicates the bottom wall of the compartment 22. One or more shelves 24, 24 are providedfor the compartment 22. Said shelves are preferably mounted on side walls 2|, 2l of the compartment in such manner as to be vertically adjustable to varying levels. As shown, said shelves each has depending flanges 24 at its sides which are adapted to be brought into supporting gngagement with front and rear flanges 24h, 24h stamped out from the sheet metal of the walls 2 I, 2 I.

as shown in Figure 3. This opening is closed by a shallow cabinet 25 which is open at the back and is ilxed to said wall I 8 in any convenient manner. Said cabinet provides a passage of entryway into the compartment 22 and has a hinged door 26 by means of which access. is given to the compartment 22. It has a top wall 21 provided with a slot 21l through which the several strips forming the Fanfold" packs may be fed to the typewriter.

In Figure 4 a slight modification of the cabinet enclosing the passage or entryway is shown. In this case 25x indicates the cabinet. The slot through which the strip or strips from the packs are to be threaded, instead of being formed in the top wall of the cabinet, is provided as indicated at 21x immediately above and in substantially the vertical plane of the door 26x. i

The operation and use of the improved typewriter desk will be obvious from the foregoing description. 'Ihe compartment 22 provides storage space for one or more so-called "Fanfold packs, one or more of which, as required, may be threaded through the slot 21* or 21, as the case may be, to the typewriter in proper relation thereto for typing the strip or strips composing the pack or packs. The packs are enclosed but always at hand with convenient access either to insert them in the compartment or to feed them from the compartment.

We claim as our invention:

1. In a typewriter desk having laterally spaced pedestals, a top thereon and a typewriter platform mounted between said pedestals, means including a back wall panel for said desk extending between and secured to said pedestals providing a compartment below said typewriter platform, said compartment opening through said back wall but being otherwise closed, one or more shelves in said compartment, and a cabinet closing said compartment and projecting shortly back of said desk top providing a passageway connected to said compartment, said cabinet having a door giving access to said passageway and a delivery slot in lateral alignment with said compartment and said typewriter platform.

2. In a typewriter desk having laterally spaced pedestals, a top thereon and a typewriter platform mounted between said pedestals, a unitary structure comprising a back panel for said desk extending between and secured to said pedestals, means providing a compartment below said typewriter platform mounted between said pedestals and attached to said back panel, said compartment having side, front and bottom walls and opening through said back panel, one or more shelves adjustably mounted in said compartment, and a cabinet closing said compartment and projecting shortly back of said desk top providing a passageway connected to said compartment, said cabinet having a door giving access to said passageway and a delivery slot in lateral alignment with said compartment and said typewriter platform.
