The invention, together with its objects and advantages will be best understood from a study of the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the invention, and with certain parts broken away and shown in section.

Figure 2 is an elevational view of the handle.

Figure 3 is a side elevational view of the detachable handle with the cup-engaging clips or elements rotated into a position substantially coplanar with the handgrip or handle part of the complete assembly.

Referring more in detail to the drawing it will be seen that broadly the invention comprises a handle member equipped at one end thereof with a hook for engaging the wall of a cup or other container at. the bottom of the latter together with a pair of clips or cup-engaging members pivotally mounted on the handle to circumferentially embrace the cup or container adjacent the top and bottom portions thereof for cooperation with the aforementioned hook to secure the handle in a positive and efficient manner on the cup; the clips or cup-embracing members being readily rotatable from a substantially horizontal plane, or from a plane at right angles to the plane of the handle, to a position substantially coplanar withthe handle, when the device is not in use and to facilitate the storage or packaging of the handle.

As shown in the drawing, the handle comprises a handle member per se, indicated by the reference numeral 5a, and formed of wood,-composition material, or any other suitable material, and in the form of a relatively fiat body having an enlarged finger-accommodating opening 6 therein. Also the handle adjacent its inner edge is provided with upper and lower slots through which pass theupper and lower spring clips I 3 with the lower clip of slightly less diameter than the other clip.

As will be seen each clip I3 is formed from a single length of wire that is first bent into a substantially split-ring form and then intermediate its ends is bent at spaced points in opposite directions whereby to provide arcuate jaw members I4 and I5 disposed in different planes and connected by a web l6 that has a flattened eye portion" accommodated within a slot l2 of the 5 handle 5 and forming a pivot eye to accommodate a nail or other pivot element 18 as shown.

The handle 5a has secured thereto. through the medium of the fastening element I8 serving as a pivot for the lower cup-embracing clip, a hook l9 to engage the lower or bottom edge of the peripheral wall of the cup.

From the foregoing description it will be apparent that the invention meets all the requirements of a handle of this character particularly designed for use in connection with paper drinking cups; the handle embodying the features of the present invention being capable of construction so as to be, in complete form, light in weight, attractive in appearance, and conveniently attached and/or detached.

It is thought that a clear understanding of the construction, utility and advantages of an invention of this character will be had without a more detailed description. 25

Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new is:

1. A handle for paper drinking cups and analogous containers, said handle comprising a handle member per se, said handle member being provided adjacent one edge thereof with a pair of spaced, substantially aligned, slots, spring clips adapted to embrace said cup, each of said clips having an intermediate portion thereof trained through a slot, means engaging the intermediate portions of said clips pivotally securing said clips I to said handle, and said handle being provided with additional means for eng ging a bottom'pa of the cup.

2. A handle for paper cups and analogous containers, said handle comprising a handle member per se provided adjacent one edge thereof with upper and lower slots, a pair of spring clips adapted to engage the cup, each of said clips being in the form of a split ring trained through one of said slots and having an intermediate portion dis- 2 ammo:
