Description
R. SCOTT. Three Horse Equalizer.
No. 221,367. Patented Nov. 4, I879.
NPETERS, PNOYG-UTNOGRAPMER WASH NGTON n u UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
.RIAL SCOTT, OF ALEXIS, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN THREE -HORSE EQUALIZERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 221,367, 'dated November 4, 1879; application filed August 16, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RIAL SUOTT, of Alexis, in the county of WVarreu and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in ThreeHorse Draft-Equalizers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked there on, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a top-plan view of a construction embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a front elevation. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one of the single-trees. Fig. 4. is a sectional view in the line 00 w in Fig. 1.
This invention relates to three-horse draftequalizers, and consists in improvements in the manner of securing the pulleys on the adjacent ends of the single-trees; and, further, in the manner of securing .the single-trees to the double-tree to adapt these parts to withstand the extra strain to which they are subjected in use with three horses, especially in that class of equalizers in which one singletrce is above and one below the double-tree.
Referring to the drawings by letters, Arepresents the double-tree,.and B B the singletrees, one placed above and one below the doubletree, and each single-tree pivoted at ward of the double-tree and receive a removable bolt, (7, which is the journal-bolt on which the single-tree is pivoted.
At the outer end of each sin gle-tree an ordinary hook, I), is placed, and at the inner end of each a pulley, E, is journaled in a pul- Icy-frame, F which is constructed and secured to the end of the single-tree as follows: Plates f, connected at their outer ends by a plate, f, are connected near their other ends by a stirrup, f, and are placed one plate f above and one below the single-tree, with the stirrup f resting against the end andrear side of the singletree. 'Bolts 9 y secure the frame F in place. The ends of plates f project beyond the end of the single-tree, and the pulley E is journaled between their projecting ends.
The attachment of the draft-animals to the chains H and hooks b is in the ordinary manner, and need not be described here.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a three-horse equalizer, the pulley frame F, formed of plates f, connected by a plate, f, and by a stirrup, f, and having the pulley E secured in its outer end, and its in nor end secured to the single-tree, substantially as and for the purpose specified. 2. In combination with doubletree A, single-trees B, one secured to the upper and the other to the under side of the double-tree by plates Q, stirrups D, and bolts d, the plates 0 and stirrups D extending forward of thefront side of the double-tree, so as to receive the removable bolt (1, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
. RIAL SCOTT.
Witnesses H. A. ALLEN.
