(01. 223-421 This invention relates to garment hangers and an object of the invention is to provide a garment hanger .so equipped as to provide for the secure clamping thereto of two pairs of trousers and the like; to support thereon a coat, dress, or similar article of wearing apparel in a manner to maintain the shape of the collar of such coat, dress, or the like and to accommodate an attachment thereforfor use in suspending a coat, sweater or the like from the hanger in addition to such trousers, skirt, coat or other garmentsuspended therefrom.

A further object of the invention is to provide an attachment which may be readily applied to the garment hanger so as to give the garment hanger greater utility than heretofore generally possessed by garment hangers of the same general descriptive character. 7

The invention together with its objects and advantages will be best understood from a study of the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein:

Figure 4 is a vertical transverse sectional view through the hanger, the section being taken on t the line 44 of Figure 1, and Figure 5 is a view similar to Figure 1, but on smaller scale, and illustrating a slightly modified form of the invention.

Referring'more in detail to the drawingsit will be seen that the garment hanger, indicated generally by the reference numeral 5, is, for the most part, of conventional construction, consisting of the usual frame 6 and cross or suspension bar I, together with the suspension hook 8.

The hanger 5 may be formed of wood, as shown; or of metal or other suitable material.

In accordance withthepresent invention there is provided for'the hanger 5 a pair of clamping bars 9 cooperable with the cross or hanger bar-'l, being disposed at opposite sides of the hanger bar I as shown.

Each of the bars 9 is provided with a bail 10 formed of a single length of spring wire or other suitable material secured at its ends to a bar 9.

Asshown in Figure 1 the clamping bars 9 are 5 secured in clamping position relative to the hang er bar 1. through the medium of latch members l3 and I4 respectively.

Also, in accordance with the present invention, there is provided acollar shape-retainer element l8 which is in' the form-of a relatively shallow receptacleprovided at one side thereof with pins l8 receivable in sockets [9 provided therefor in onefside of theframe 6 of the hanger 5 whereby to the underside of the cross or hanger bar I of the hanger 5 adjacent opposite ends of the bar 1. "In this connection, it will be understood that. one of r the eye-bolts 23 may be stationary while the other may be swivelly mounted so as to facilitate the with said eye-bolts 23.

It will thus be seen thatthe'members 26 may be adjusted on the rod 20 towards or away from one another as the size of a sweater, orthe like, may require in order to properly engage the elements L4 Withthe sweater at the junction of the shoulders and arms of the sweater.

Also by placing the members 294 within a skirt at the waist band thereof and adjusting the members 24 toward or away from one another the same will serve admirably for suspending a skirt from the rod 20. In this connection .it will be apparent that the weight of the garment with that of the members 24 will cause the portions 26 of the members 24 to frictionally en.- gage the rod 28 thus causing the members 24 to be retained at the desired position of adjustment on the rod 2i]. V

The attachment also includes, a suspension hook 27 which has the shank thereof swivelly connected with a U-shaped attaching. member 23 the legs of which are aperturedto receive the rod 20, to be rotated about the rod 20 as may be found desirable. Thus, it will be seen that. the hook 2? may be used as a suspension hook for a garment. or the like or with the attachmentused separate and apart from the hanger 5, said hook 21 will serve as a suspension member for the attachment 2D to suspend the attachment from a nail, or other suitable suspension element or support.

It will thus be seen that the hanger 5 maybe used either with or independently of the attach ment 20 and that the attachment 21? may be also so used alternately.

Adverting again to the latch member l4 itwill be noted that the same is formed of a flat spring material while the latch member I3 is formed of spring wire; In this connection it will'be understood that both latch members, if desired, may

be formed of the same material, that is to say, either of flat spring material or ofspring wire,

or the respective latch members may be made of diiferent material as herein shown and described.

Also, in actual practice it will be found that the form of the invention shown in Figure 5 will be more adaptable for childrens or dolls clothes made in miniature scale.

It is thought that the many advantages of a garment hanger embodying the features of the present invention and the numerous uses to which it may be but, will all be apparent from the foregoing.

Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new is:

said. cross-bar and disposed at opposite sides of the latter, a hinge bar mounted on said hanger above and parallel to said hanger bar, bail-like members secured to said clamping bars and having eye-equipped portions engaging said hinge bar, latch members pivotally mounted on said garment hanger and engageable with the baillike members of said clamping bars for securing said clamping bars in operative clamping position with respect to said hanger bar, said, latch members being independent of each other to permit either clamping bar to be moved independently, of the other clamping bar.

In combination with a garment hanger of frame-like structure embodying a cross-bar and a suspension hook, clamping bars cooperable with said cross-bar. and disposed at opposite sides of thelatter, a hinge 'bar mounted on said hanger above and parallel to said hanger bar, bail-like members secured to said clamping bars and having eye-equipped portions engaging said hinge bar, a second hinge barcarried by the hanger andfllocatedabove the first hinge bar, a pair of latchmembers pivotally supported by the second hinge bar and extending in opposite direction fromsaid bar, one latch member being adapted to engage the bail-like member of one clamping bar and the other latch member the bail-like member of the other clamping bar, for securing said clamping bars in clamping positions relative to the cross barof the hanger.

, 3;.qIn a garment'hanger of the class described, a frame, a cross-bar extending between opposite ends of the frame, a suspension hook for the frame securedito the top thereof, a pivot bar mounted on the frame in spaced parallelism to said. cross bar, clamping bars cooperable with said cross-bar and disposed at opposite sides thereof, bails secured to said clamping bar, said bails having the 'legportions thereof provided with combination hinge eyes and springs engaged with said pivot bar for pivotally supporting the clamping bars on the hanger, each bail having an upwardly. extending part of loop shape and pivoted latch members at the upper part of the hanger frame for engaging the upper ends of said upwardly'extending parts for holding. the bails with the clamping bars in cooperative clamping position with the cross bar of the hanger frame.
