Description

Patented May 13, 1941 PRGCESS FOR MAKING SHOES John Hoza, Zlin, Czechoslovakia Application September 12, 1938, Serial No. 229,449 In Czechoslovakia'September 13, 1937 2 Claims.
This invention relates to a process for the manufacture of shoes made of textile fabric and the like, in which process the sole and edging or binding of the said textile fabric which borders on the sole, are applied by vulcanization in one operation in such manner that sole and edging are sharply separated from one another.
Heretoiore, in the manufacture of shoes from woven material and the like and provided with a rubber sole, it has not been possible to obtain a sharp line of demarcation between the outsole and said binding or edging, since due to the action of vulcanization parts thereof would merge or run into each other. Such merging would prevent the use of differently colored rubber for said sole and said edging, respectively, since in the vulcanizing operation such colors would spread or run into one another so that the coloring of the sole and binding would be liable to show irregular and unpleasant stains.
The use of the same color for both the sole and trimming would produce a monotonous and less aesthetic effect and make the shoe less salable, whereas the diversity of the colors of the sole and edging or trimming, respectively,
will improve the aspect and appearance of the shoe and hence increase its salability.
In order to carry out the process described I have devised a specially formed mold which during vulcanization will allow the said sole and said edging to be separated by a gap, so that both sole and edging or parts thereof will be prevented from running into one another, while no fabric parts will be left uncovered between the said sole and said trimming.
The mold accordingto the invention is formed in the usual way. Along the entire periphery of the bottom part of the shoe, there is arranged a separating projection which when the lateral mold sections are closed and pressure applied to the said edging, will'prevent the rubber of two" difierently colored rubber parts from overflowing and visibly merging into one another.
If required, a mold comprising three or more sections may be employed.
In the drawing a transverse sectional view mold sections l, 2, and surrounding the bottom part of the shoe.
The pressing process takes place in a manner known per so, so that the finished upper part 8 stretched on a last or jack 5 is tacked or secured to an inner sole 6. Along the periphery of the parts made from woven material and on the place where the edging is to be formed, a rubber strip 9 of the desired color is applied, whereupon a differently colored sole H) is placed on strip 9 and on an intermediary layer 1. When the mold is closed, the projection 4 will penetrate between the sole and edging and a simultaneous pressure applied by the upper mold section 3 will prevent a visible running into one another of the two materials.
What I claim is:
1. A process of manufacturing a shoe having a sole, edging and upper part, by employing a vulcanizing mold having two lateral interconnectible sections provided with two opposing projections, and a third section pressable upon the bottom face of said sole, which process consists in placing between said lateral mold sections the upper part of a lasted shoe having an insole secured thereto, locating a rubber trimming along the edge of the upper part for forming said edging, closing said lateral sections, engaging said sole upon said trimming such that the mold projections will lie between the edge of said sole and the edge of said trimming, pressing the third mold section against said sole and vulcanizing said sole, upperpart and trimming together, a gap being formed between said sole and said edging preventing thereby visible merging of said sole and said edging into one another.
2. A process of manufacturing a shoe by vulcanization which consists in placing over an edge of the upper of said shoe a rubber trimming,
positioning an inner sole between the inner edges of said trimming and said upper part by projections provided at lateral sections of a mold, placing over said'projections a rubber sole covering thereby said inner sole and the remaining part of said trimming, vulcanizing the inner face of said sole to said remaining part of said trimming and to said innersole, and said remaining part of said trimming to said upper, said section projections forming a gap between said sole and said trimming.
