One of the primary objects of my inventionA is to provide a package in which the entire contents thereof will be exposed to the view of the purchaser in an attractive manner land still be kept in a fresh and sanitary condition.
Another salient object of my invention is to provide a package for loose candies and nuts embodying a librous ple plate for holding the goods to be dispensed, and a transparent cover for the plate, whereby the goods will be displayed,
with means for holding the transparent sheet or cover in intimate contact with the peripheral flange of the plate to maintain the goods in a fresh and sanitary condition.
it further olbject of my invention is lthe provision oi a ilat retaining ring tor resting on top oi' the flange oil the plate over the transparent sheet or cover, with means iol' drawing and holding the ring tight on the sheet against the flange to form substantially au air-tight paclrage,
il further important ohlect ot my invention is the provision of hendable tabs i'orrned integral vwith the margin of the retaining ring i'or engaging' the edge ci the flange oi the plate' to facilitate` the centering ci? the ring on the plate with wire staples for extending through the ring, sheet, plate and talos, the tabs functioning to draw the ring down tight during the stapllng process and for reinforcing the plate and ring to prevent the accidental tearing loose of the staples.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a novel package of the above character for dispensing candies and nuts in small quantities,
' which will 'be durable and emcient in use, one that will be simple and easy to manufacture, and
one winch can be placed upon the market at a' small cost.
With theseand other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, ar-
rangement, and loatlon oi parts, as will be4 hereinafter more speclcallyv described, claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, lin which drawing: l
Figure l is a top plan view ci my improved package.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the retaining ring prior to being fastened in place.
Figure 3 is an enlarged detail section through the package prior to the stapling process.
Figure 4 is a view similar to Figure 3 showing the retaining ring secured in place and drawn down tight on the transparent sheet or cover.
Figure 5 is an enlarged detail sectional view through the retaining ring, showing the transparent sheet secured to the under-surface ci the y, ring by an adhesive. l
Referring to the drawing in detail, wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the letter P generally indicates my improved paclrim age, which is particularly designed for dispensing loose candies and nuts, but which is adaptable for serving any pastry or confection over a counter.
The package P comprises a main body portion it t, which is in `the form of a small nbrous'pie plate. A fibrous pie plate is utilized in view ot' the cheapness thereof and the fact that the saine lends a novel and attractive appearance in the dispensing of candies and shelled nuts.
The body portion t has formed thereon the usual outstanding peripheral nange t, and alter the body portion or pie plate t has been hlled with the candy or nuts, a transparent sheet 'l 'is placed over the top ol the pie plate against gli.
the flange t to form a cover for the package. This sheet can he formed iromyany desired material, such as cellophane ln order to hold the transparent sheet or cover' in intimate contact with the upper surface of the flange t and to add to the'attractive appearance of the package, I utilize a flat retaining ring t, which can be formed from cardboard. This retaining ring t is oi substantially the saine size as the flange of the pie plate, but preferably extends slightly inward of the flange and is struck out from a single sheet oi material in its annular form. The portion of material struck out from the center ci the ring is placed on top oi the bottom wall of the plate to substantially hide the rough appearance of the plate after the contents of the package has been used. This portion is shown at ll in Figures 3 and i. Both the retaining ring and the portion struct: out from the center of the ring can carryl any preferred type of advertising rnatter.
The retaining ring is adapted to be secured to the peripheral flange t of the pie plate by means ot wire staples t, and these staples are adapted to extend through the ring, the cellophane sheet so l, and the flange t. I
In order to center the rings on the pie plates and to facilitate the drawing of the rings down tight on the flange and to prevent the tearingl out ci the staples, I form integral with the margg liti ginal edge of the ring 8 tabs or tongues l0. As shown in Figure 3, the tabs I0 can engage the edge of the flange and thus guide 'the ring in place on the plate. These tabs i0 are adapted to be folded under the flange, and when the staples 9 are driven home the tabs tend to draw down on the ring, and as the wire staples pass through the tabs, the tabs reinforce the package and prevent the accidental tearing out of the staples.
While I have shown the pie plate as being ofA as well as rwhen it is circular. l f
If preferred, the Cellophane sheet can be glued to the under-surface of the ring 8 prior to the placing of the ring in position on the body po-,

forms a frame for the sheet of Cellophane and facilitates the placing of the Cellophane in position on the body. The adhesive is shown by the numeral l2 in Figure 5' of the drawing.
From the foregoing description it can be seen that I have provided an exceptionally simple and attractive package for dispensing loose candies and nuts over a counter.
Changes in details may be made without departing from the spirit or the scope of this invention, but what I claim as new is:
A dispensing package for nuts, candies, and the like, comprising, a body of pie-plate-like form having an outwardly projecting flange provided with a flat upper surface, a sheet of transparent material placed over the top of the plate in intimate contact with the flat upper surface yof the flange, a flat annular finishing and retaining ring fitted over the transparent sheet against the ange, means-securing the ring, sheet,
and flange together, the inner edge of said ring.
projecting a material distance inwardly of the flange and over the body.
