April 9, c. JOHNSON ET AL 9 TOOTH PASTE TUBE CLOSURE Filed Feb. 27, 1939 v gwuwwf C/a fl/es J; 19/7507 4/7 4 Car Jahns i Patented Ap..."-9, 1940 JUNlTED ESTATES PATENT 'OF FIcE,

, .3 Claims. (Cl. 221-60) which will be manually operated to open it, but 7 which will then remain open until the cap is pressed. or the catch released.
These objects we accomplish with the device illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which similar numerals and letters of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views and as described in the specification forming a part of this application and pointed out inthe a and some appended claims.
In the drawing, v I t Figure l is a side elevation of a collapsible tube with my cap'shown'thereon in closed position.
Figure 2 is a like View with the cap shown open of the paste beingpressed from the tube. j v
Figure, 3 is a diametrical longitudinal section of the cap removed from" a tube shown in increased size for clarity. Figure 4 is a plan View of the cap shown closed. In'the drawing we have shown the collapsible tube as A, and with the threaded discharge neck shown as 5. Onto this neck we screw our cap assembly B. ,This assembly is made with a hexagonal internally threaded base! terminating in a cylindrical discharge nozzle 8 and on one side of this cylindrical nozzle 8 we provide spaced apart brackets 8 to which the hinge ears Iliof the closure plate or cap I l of our device are hingedly mounted by a hinge pin 92. A closure spring I3 is wound around the hinge pin l2 with one end closed.
The spring held catch ,for the cap is termed of a coil spring 15 mounted on the cylindrical nozzle 8 by brackets Hi, the end'l'l of the spring 15.
being bent up parallel to the axis of the nozzle 8 with a slight curve 18 formed in the. end l! to engage the top of the cap II when it is opened.
Arelease bar 19 is mounted on the free end of the spring l5 by which the spring may be flexed to release the cap after it has been opened and locked open ,by the spring.'-
The spring is the retaining means for cap the curved portion l8 of the spring engages over the small 1ug,-shown on the drawing in the adjacent end of the cap, holding the cap, in the opened position, as shown in Figure Zoi the drawing. The cap is released by touching the release bar 19 either with the finger or any other object.
Having thusdescribed our invention we desire to secure by Letters Patent and claim:
l. A'closure for collapsibletubes comprising, an internally threaded base adapted to be screwed into the discharge neck of a collapsible tube; a smaller diametereddi'scharge nozzle on said base; a bracket formed on one side of said,
smaller nozzles" a cap having the main body formed, circular to fit over the end of' the distended and formed with ears depending from said extended side, saidlears being pivoted to.
charge nozzle of said base and with one side ex- 7 said bracket; a spring between the discharge I side of theextended side of the cap when it is opened and hold it open until released by releasing said spring.
2. A closure for collapsible tubes comprising a v threaded tubular body adaptedto screw onto the discharge neck of a collapsible tube; a cap pivotally'mounted on said threaded body normally closing the end'of said tubular body;a spring ,normally holding the cap in the closed position; and an extended spring having one portion adapted to engage the cap when opened and, hold it open until released.
' 3. A closure of the class: including a packing within an annular flange on said cap to prevent leakage from said can when,
