Description
0. TAYLOR. Bag-Fastener,
No. 213,333. Patented Aug. 5,1879.
UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIGE.
CYRUS TAYLOR, OF DENVER, COLORADO.
lM PROVEM ENT IN BAG-FASTENERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 2| 8,333, dated August 5, 1879; application filed March 17, 1879.
7 To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CYRUS TAYLOR, of Denver, Colorado, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bag-Fasteners, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a view of a bag fastened with my improved fastening device. Fig. 2 is a cross-section through the same.
The object of my invention is toprovide a convenient device for closing and securing the mouths of bags, especially such as are used to contain heavy merchandise, coffee, salt, &c.
My invention consists in a pair of straight wooden jaws attached to the edge of the bag, and arranged to be drawn closely together and fastened at both ends, and thus clamp the edges of the bag between them.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe the exact manner in which I have carried it out.
In the drawings, A A are a pair of straight wooden jaws, provided at both ends with notches a a, and with holes a a/ through the end of each, so that when the jaws are placed parallel to each other each pair of holes will be in line, and strings c a can then be passed through the holes in the two jaws, as shown in the drawings. To these jaws are permanently secured the upper edges of the bag H by means of screws or rivets B B B having washers to prevent the fabric from tearing.
When the bag is to be closed the jaws are brought together by means of the strings, which are then passed around the jaws and tied, thus securing the mouth of the bag.
It is evident that these strips or jaws attached to the edge of the bag are an assistance in holding it open for filling.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A bag, H, in combination with the two permanently-attached bars or jaws A A, provided with depressions a a and holes a a, and the cords 0 c, all constructed and arranged as set forth.
