1 Claim.

My invention relates to improvements in dolls, and more particularly has reference to means in combination with a doll for establishing ducts therein and a chamber so that by feeding the doll water, the same passes through, wetting the diaper, and when spanked and turned upright. drops of water appear at the eyes, simulating the actual crying by the doll, the wetting and the crying operations being independent and complete in themselves.

Referring to the accompanying drawing, Fig. 1 is a view in vertical elevation, parts being broken away, showing a doll constructed in accordance with the present invention, and Fig. 2 is a rear view of the upper part thereof.

3 indicates the body of the doll, 4 the arms thereof, and 5 the legs, all of which are suitably connected in any well-known manner. The body and head of the doll are, of course, preferably hollow, as shown, and a tank or container 6 is suitably secured in the head as by a bracket 1, the head preferably being in sections 8, 9, which may be pivotally connected by pins l0, and any other suitable provision may be made for inserting and securing the tank and its support in any desirable manner.

I I indicates a tube extending from the tank or reservoir 6 to the mouth l2, and I3 indicates a baby bottle containing water, and a perforated nipple to allow the water in the bottle l3 to be passed into the tube II and tank ii while the doll is upon its back in the lap of the child. Another tube M allows a little of this water to pass to the outlet l5 where, being diapered, the same is wet, and the child, discovering it, turns the doll face down, applying the customary spanking, after which it sets the doll up and the remaining water in the tank 8 passes by way of the tube It to the header H, to which are connected the tubes l8 and I9, having outlets in the corners of the eyes as shown, where tear drops are formed, rolling down the face of the child, thus simulating the act of crying.

It will be apparent that by providing the foregoing arrangement of openings in the reservoir relative to the respective fluid conduits leading to the mouth, eyes and lower end of the body portion, that no fluid will pass into the eye openings while the doll is in a horizontal or reclining position, although immediately upon introduction of the fluid into the reservoir a measure of this fluid will immediately pass out at the lower end of the body portion.

When, however, the doll is set upright, this flow ceases inasmuch as the water level in the reservoir is now somewhat below the level of the port leading into the conduit 14. Accordingly, since the water level is below this port it is also below the port leading into the tube ll communicating with the mouth and no liquid returns through the mouth from whence it came originally. Thus, the remaining liquid passes out through the eyes in the form of tears. As a result, the desired human object is attained without manually actuated valves or other complicated mechanism.

Of course, it will be understood that the tubes are small so that the amount of water passing therethrough is only suflicient to carry out the desired effect, and the tubes to the comers of the eyesmay be still smaller, if desired, so as to allow drops to actually form before rolling down the cheeks of the doll, thus more perfectly simulating the desired effects, and in fact, various modifications may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.

We claim:

A doll of the class described comprising hollow head and body portions, the head having a mouth opening and eye openings and eyes positioned within such latter openings, the body portion having an opening adjacent to the lower end thereof, a fluid reservoir positioned within the head of the doll, such reservoir having openings in the front and rear vertical walls thereof and another opening in the lower wall thereof, a fluid conduit connecting the opening in the front vertical wall with the mouth of the doll whereby liquid introduced into the month while the doll is in a horizontal position will pass into the reservoir, a second fluid conduit leading from the rear opening to the opening at the lower end of the body whereby liquid so introduced into the reservoir will pass out of such latter opening while the doll is yet in such horizontal position, and a third fluid conduit leading from the lower reservoir opening into the eye openings in the head, whereby fluid remaining in the reservoir will pass out through such eye opening when the doll is in a substantially upright position, but not through such other openings.
