Description
A ril 4, 1939; P. s. cAzEs INTERMITTENT FILM FEED Filed Jan. 11, 1938 a l earae s C JQtB Patented Apr. 4, 1939 Paul Georges cues, Paris,
Plfll Cinema Ancl l remlarial ranee Application January 11, 1938, Serial No. 184,88!
In men mu 1, ion (a. as-iai 1 Claim,
It is shown by experience that in cinematographic apparatus in which the film is fed claw carrying member actuated by a cam, the wear of the parts in contact has a marked effect upon the fixed pcsition of the projection and also upon the noise resulting from the operation.
The present invention has for its object to improve the film operating devices of the aforewill be hereinafter set forth.
The accompanying drawing, which is given solely by way of example,
represents an improved feeding mechanism in accordance withthe invention.
In the embodiment herein represented, the slide i carrying the claws with a peripheral ridge 2 at its front end is provided i which is acted upon by a cam 3 carried by a shaft 4 rotating in stationary bearings.
The cam 3 is provided with a crank it pin 5 extending into an oblique slot I! of t e slide. ,The said slide with a tail 6 having a slot 8" is provided at the rear end into which extends a pivot or supporting pin 1 which is stationary but adjustable in position. 80
The tail 6 of slide i has a lug hole 9 for attaching a spring ll held at its opposite end by a stud ll secured to the frame of the apparatus. Said spring has a portion slightly inclined on the-horizontal and in the example shown, its attaching point 0 is so arranged that it lies always at the right of the supporting pin I.
The operation is as follows: when the cm 3 is rotated in the direction of arrow 1', the slide is imparted a vertical reciprocating movement as shown by arrow reciprocating movement whereby the to the claws 2.
On the other hand,
slide-is I combined with a horizontal as shown by arrow F, daired feeding motion is imparted due to the spring is, the. subjected to a horizontal force to the left according to the arrow I. whereby the edge ab of the oblique slot l! in the said slide is constantly pressed against. lost motion. is thus prevented thercrank pin I.
Any
inthehorimntal,
, is subjected by the 8 pierced with a means.
France, 8 0! to Etablissements Pifll direction between At the same time.
the slide and the crank pin. the right hand end of the slide spring I. to a downward force according to the arrow 1, adapted to press the upper edge cd of the slot i against the supporting stud I, and said stud I acting as a fulcrum for the slide, the lower part of the ridge I on the slide will be held permanently in contact at e with the cam 3, whereby any lost motion between the slide and the cam in the vertical dlrec- 10 tion is avoided.
As results from the above, the left hand part of the slide is urged upwardly and to the left by the action of spring II and it is urged downwardly and to the right by the respectively.
Obviously the invention is not limited to the embodiment herein described and represented, which is given solely by way of example.-
Having now described my invention what I 20 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: i
In a cinematograp apparatus, in combination a stationary pivot, a slide provided on one lateral side with at least one claw, on the opposite lateral as side with a guiding slot substantially at right angles with said lateral sides and engaging slidably and pivotally said pivot, and between said claw and said guiding slot with a bearing surface facing upwards and substantially parallel to said guiding slot and with an oblique surface facing said claw and having its lower end nearer said guiding slot than its upper end, a cam engaging saldbearing surface and adapted to impart to said slide downward movements, con- 35 trolling means engaging said oblique surface and adapted to impart to said slide lateral movements towards said pivot, stationary attaching means situated below said slide, and a spring attached at one end to said attaching means and at its 40 other end to said slide at a point situated below said pivot and above said attaching means and adapted to urge constantly and simultaneously the upper side of said guiding slot against said pivot, said bearing surface against said'cam and 45 said oblique surface against said controlling ram. oneness cans.
