2 Claims.
The invention relates to an eraser and more especially to an ink eraser fitting for a Writing instrument.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of an eraser of this character, wherein a serrated element is mounted or interfitted with the cap of a writing instrument, such as a fountain pen, so that ink erasures can be readily and easily made in the use of the writing instrument.
Another object of the invention is the provision of an eraser of this character, wherein the construction thereof assures convenience to its use and is a part of a writing instrument, particularly a fountain pen, being carried by the removable cap thereof.
A further object of the invention is the provision of an eraser of this character, which is extremely simple in its construction, novel in its mounting, thoroughly reliable and efficient in operation and inexpensive to manufacture and install.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as Will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which discloses the preferred embodiment of the invention and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is an elevation of a fountain pen showing the eraser constructed in accordance with the invention and looking toward one side thereof.
Figure 2 is a View similar to Figure 1 looking toward one end of the eraser.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary enlarged vertical sectional view through the pen cap with the eraser a part thereof.
Figure 4 is a View similar to Figure 3 looking toward the end of said eraser.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail, A designates generally a fountain pen of standard construction having a removable sheath or cap 5 which is telescopically fitted upon the body of the pen when not in use and this sheath or cap has a clip 6 enabling the pen when not in use to be fastened in the pocket of a user.
The eraser comprises a relatively narrow bladelike body 7 preferably made from steel and is formed with a half-circular shaped edge 8 serrated at 9 effective for making erasures of ink or Writing while the edge it of said body "i, which is straight, is formed with rivet lugs it, these being received in holes l2 provided in the closed end iii of said sheath or cap 5, the lugs being upset at M for fixedly fastening such lugs in the holes I2 therefor.
The closed end it is thickened and has provided at the center thereof a channel or groove l5 which opens through the outer face of said end l3. and is intersected by the holes M, the body I being counterseated within the groove l5 to the extent of the depth thereof within the end It and in this manner the body '3 is rigidly seated in the said end [3 of the cap or sheath 5. The serrated half-circular edge of the body I is usable for erasing ink or other Writings upon paper, the serrations 9 being effective for erasures of such writing through manipulationv of the pen by hand.
What is claimed is:
1. An eraser for a writing instrument having a removable cap provided with a channel therein, comprising a relatively narrow body having a rounded serrated edge and an opposite straight edge, the latter being accommodated in said channel, and rivet lugs fixing the said body in the channel for the seating of the straight edge of said body therein and fixed to the cap.
2. An eraser for a writing instrument having a removable cap provided with a channel therein, comprising a relatively narrow body having a rounded serrated edge and an opposite straight edge, the latter being accommodated in said channel, and rivet lugs fixing the said body in the channel for the seating of the straight edge of said body therein and fixed to the cap, the said cap next to the body being thickened and having the channel opening through the outer surface of said thickened portion and extending inwardly only a distance thereof.
