king adapted to be secured to the upright sides of a window frame, and to take the place of the parting bead between the upper and lower sash, and having spring actuated bars mounted' therein and engaged by flanged strips on the upper and lower sash that hold the bars inwardly of the casing against the resistance of the resilient member behind each bar, provision being made as a part of the casing to hold the bars within the casing when the sashes are removed from the frame. A further object of the invention is the provision of a dust pad mounted in the casing adapted to be secured to the meeting rail of oney of the sashes, including a spring actuated member carrying a block of felt or other material to close the space between the upright bars of the weather strip hereinbefore referred to.
The invention will bel described in detail hereinafter and will be found illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a view in elevation, partly broken away and shown in section of a window frame and sashes showing the improved weather strip structure mounted therein,

In the drawing similar reference characters are used to designate corresponding parts in all of the views.
In the drawing I0 designates side members of a window frame in which are mounted the upper and lower sashes II and I2, respectively.
Secured between the upper and lower sashes I I and I2 to the side members I Il are the weather strip members, said members IIl being provided with a vertical groove I3 in which the weather strip member is secured. The weather strip member comprises a casing made preferably of sheet metal and having side members I4 with outwardly bent and returned portions I5 to receive driven fastenings for securing the casing to the members I Il. The casings are also provided with partitions I6 formed by bending the sheet metal intermediate of its side edges as shown at I'I and 5 then inwardly toward one another as shown at I8 and extended to form the partitions I6, the parts I8 providing shoulders for the purpose hereinafter stated. The partitions I6 with the side members I4 provide chambers I 9 on opposite 10 sides of the partitions in which are slidably mounted bars 20 having offset portions 2| that engage the shoulders I8 to limit the outward movement of the bars by the action of the leaf springs 22, said leaf springs being secured to the 15 bars 20 intermediate of their ends by means of the driven fastenings 23.
Secured to each of the sashes II and I2 are strips 24 of sheet metal and having a flange 25 thereon that is preferably curved as shown to 20 engage the curved outer edge of the bars 20, said anges 25 having the bars inwardly of the shoulders I8 and against the action of the springs 22, and providing an airtight and weather-tight fit forming a weather seal between the sashes II 25 and I2 and the window frame.
By this construction it will be apparent that the window sashes may be raised and lowered as desired and the weather seal will be effective.
It will be furthermore apparaent that the cas- 30 ing including the side walls I4 provide a parting bead between the upper and lower sashes.
In order to close the opening formed to receive the partition I 6 and its T-shaped end including the portion I'I and the shoulders I8, I provide a 35 dust pad to be secured to the meeting rail of either the upper or the lower sash, comprising a casing 26 having a foot piece 21 adapted to be secured to a meeting rail by driven fastenings 28, and mounted in said casing is a plunger 29 pref- 40 erably made of sheet metal bent into U-shape and engaging a pad 30 of felt or other suitable material that wipes the member I1. Casing 26 has an inturned projection 3|, and the plunger has an outturned projection 32, and 33 designates 45 an expansible coil spring terminally engaging said projection and functioning to hold the wiping member 30 in engagement with the part II.
I claim as my invention:
1.
