Description
- This application claims priority to provisional patent application U.S. Ser. No. 62/042,475 filed on Aug. 27, 2014, the entire contents of which is herein incorporated by reference.
- The embodiments herein relate generally to fitness, and more particularly, to a portable outdoor fitness studio.
- Outdoor fitness studios using professional fitness equipment do not exist, because professional fitness equipment is designed to be used indoors. Thus, users are limited to workout indoors for many disciplines. Moreover, fitness studio locations are permanent are not mobile and cannot be moved easily. Thus, conventional fitness studios are permanent and are not products that can be shipped worldwide.
- Therefore, what is needed is a portable outdoor fitness studio that is both mobile and allows users to use professional fitness equipment outdoors, wherein the fitness studio may be sold or offered as a product.
- Some embodiments of the present disclosure include a portable fitness studio for creating an open air workout space that is mobile. The portable fitness studio may include a shell having a pair of side panels and a pair of end panels, wherein at least one of the pair of side panels is an openable panel configured to create an open-air workout space when positioned in an open configuration; fitness equipment mounted within and stored within the shell; and a power source operatively attached to the shell, wherein the power source is configured to provide power to the portable fitness studio. The portable fitness studio may be sized and shaped similar to a conventional shipping container, such that the portable fitness studio is configured to be transported using conventional methods for transporting shipping containers

- 1. Shell
- 2. Openable Side Panel
- 3. Fitness Equipment
- The various elements of the portable outdoor fitness studio of the present disclosure may be related in the following exemplary fashion. It is not intended to limit the scope or nature of the relationships between the various elements and the following examples are presented as illustrative examples only.
- By way of example, and referring to
FIGS. 1-11 , some embodiments of the portable outdoor fitness studio of the present disclosure comprise ashell 10, such as a shipping container shell, having at least one openable panel, such as a hydraulic loweringside wall 12, such that when the openable panel is in an openable configuration, the interior of theshell 10 and the surroundingarea 48 become an open air workout space, whereinfitness equipment 18 is mounted within and stored within theshell 10 and the portable fitness studio may be configured to be transported using conventional methods for transporting shipping containers. While in use, thefitness equipment 18 may be removed from theshell 10 and used in the surroundingarea 48, creating and indoor/outdoor exercise area. The surroundingarea 48 may be any desired size and, in some embodiments, may be about 1000 square feet. In embodiments, the at least one openable panel may be one of the longer side panels of theshell 10, wherein the shell comprises a pair of long side panels and a pair of short end panels. In alternative embodiments, the fitness studio may comprise ashell 10 without an openable panel, such that the fitness area is primarily or solely contained within theshell 10. The portable fitness studio may also comprise at least onesolar panel 14 mounted to the exterior of theshell 10, wherein thesolar panel 14 may be configured to provide power to any electrical components of the portable fitness studio, such as asolar power box 52, thefitness equipment 18, or optionalinterior lighting 46 or optionalexterior lighting 16. Additionally, fitness equipment 18 or other accessories may also be mounted to an exterior of theshell 10. - As shown in the Figures, the openable panel may open in any suitable manner. For example, as shown in
FIGS. 1-4 , the openable panel may comprise a hydraulic loweringside wall 12. Thus, a conventional side panel of a shipping container may be replaced by apanel 12 that is hingeably attached to a bottom surface of the shipping container, such that theside panel 12 may open downwards, creatingmore floor space FIGS. 1-4 , two opposite side panels on theshell 10 may each comprise hydraulic loweringside walls 12, creating afirst floor space 36 and asecond floor space 44, wherein each of thefloor spaces side wall 12, at least onewall support 34 may attach a frame of theshell 10 to the hydraulic loweringside wall 12. - Alternatively and as shown in
FIGS. 5 , 10, and 11, the openable panel may comprise an accordion-style folding wall 40, wherein a conventional side panel of a shipping container may be replaced with an according-style folding wall 40, such that the side panel folds to one end of theshell 10. In yet further embodiments, the openable panel may comprise a garage-style rolling door 50, as shown inFIG. 6 , wherein the side panel is configured to roll up into a position proximate to an upper surface of theshell 10. In another embodiment, the openable panel may comprise a pair ofdouble doors 54 that open outwards and opposite from each other, wherein each door is hingeably attached to a surface of theshell 10, as shown inFIG. 7 . Alternatively, as shown inFIG. 8 , the openable panel may comprise a single, large hingeablyopenable door 56, wherein thedoor 56 opens outwardly away from an interior of theshell 10. In another embodiment, the openable panel may comprise a sliding door, such as a barn-style door 58, as shown inFIG. 9 , wherein thedoor 58 is configured to slide along at least a portion of a length of the side panel, creating an opening into an interior of theshell 10. Thus, the openable side panel may be a member selected from the group consisting of a loweringside wall 12, an accordion-style folding wall 40, a garage-style rolling door 50, openabledouble doors 54, a singleopenable door 56, and a sliding, barn-style door 58. However, any other suitable side panel that creates an opening into an interior of theshell 10 may be used, such as, for example, an upwardly openable side panel, creating an awning configured to cover a portion of the open-air workout space. In any case, when the portable fitness studio is not in use, the openable panels may be positioned in their closed configurations, resulting in the portable fitness studio being secured and anyfitness equipment 18 positioned therein being securely stored. The portable fitness studio may also be transported using conventional shipping methods when the openable side panes are in a closed configuration, as the portable fitness studio may comprise ashell 10 having the approximate size and shape of a conventional shipping container. - In addition to the at least one openable side panel, the
shell 10 may further comprise at least one openable end panel. For example, as shown inFIGS. 10 and 11 , at least one of the end panels of theshell 10 may comprise an openable end panel, such as a hingeablyopenable door 42, although other types of openable end panels, such as those similar to the openable side panels, are envisioned. Thus, in some embodiments, the side panels of theshell 10 and the end panels of theshell 10 may all be openable, creating an open environment workout space. However, in other embodiments, at least one of the end panels may comprise anon-openable wall panel 20. - In embodiments, such as that shown in
FIGS. 10 and 11 , more than one portable fitness studio may be operatively combined to create a larger overall open-air workout space. Additionally, depending on the needs and desires of the user, when the studio or studios are installed or placed in a desired location, the studio may become a permanent or semi-permanent fixture or, alternatively, may remain mobile. - The interior of the portable fitness studio of the present disclosure may have
fitness equipment 18 mounted or placed therein, as shown in the Figures. Thefitness equipment 18 may be any desired fitness equipment, such as treadmills, bikes, punching bags, weight benches, and so on. The portable fitness studio may also comprise finished walls, flooring, ceilings, and other accessories or fixtures, such as hangingbars 22,weight storage shelves 24, ball storage bars 26, a sound system withspeakers 28, a table 30,shelves - In other embodiments, the portable fitness studio may not have
fitness equipment 18 mounted therein, but rather may be transformed into a portable office, restaurant, library, business, DJ booth, healthcare facility, disaster relief facility, an extra room for a house or hotel, or the like by mounting the necessary equipment within theshell 10. - Persons of ordinary skill in the art may appreciate that numerous design configurations may be possible to enjoy the functional benefits of the inventive systems. Thus, given the wide variety of configurations and arrangements of embodiments of the present invention the scope of the invention is reflected by the breadth of the claims below rather than narrowed by the embodiments described above.
