Abstract

A tote bag that consists of a primary compartment on top of a secondary compartment, and an enclosure flap to cover the tote bag's secondary compartment. The enclosure flap can be locked in place in both the open and closed positions through hook and loop tape. To close the secondary compartment, the enclosure flap is rotated 180 degrees downwards and affixed to a contrary piece of hook and loop tape. To open the secondary compartment, the enclosure flap is rotated 180 degrees upwards and also affixed to a contrary piece of hook and loop tape.

Description

    CROSS REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS
  • This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Application No. 61/893,504, filed Oct. 21, 2013, titled “Tote Bag Compartment Enclosure System.”
  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • The Tote Bag Compartment Enclosure System serves to provide a handy enclosure system for a tote bag's secondary compartment. Prior art of tote bags indicate single compartment tote bags with an opening at the top, and pockets or pouches in the walls of the tote bags. This invention has two compartments consisting of a secondary compartment below a primary compartment, and an enclosure flap that covers the secondary compartment.
  • BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • The Tote Bag Compartment Enclosure System has an enclosure flap which is used to cover a tote bag's secondary compartment for item transport. From the closed position, the enclosure flap is rotated 180 degrees upwards and affixed to a contrary piece of hook and loop tape on the front of the tote bag's primary compartment for access to the secondary compartment. From the open position, the enclosure flap is rotated 180 degrees downwards and affixed to a contrary piece of hook and loop tape near the bottom section of the secondary compartment in order to cover and secure the secondary compartment. The enclosure flap has hook and loop tape on both the frontside and backside that allows it to stay locked in place depending on if the secondary compartment is open or closed.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
  • FIG. 1 is a top, front, and side illustration of the tote bag with the primary compartment cover in the open position and the enclosure flap in the open position.
  • FIG. 2 is a top, front, and side illustration of the tote bag with the primary compartment cover in the open position and the enclosure flap in the closed position.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION
  • The Tote Bag Compartment Enclosure System consists of a primary compartment 16 on top of a secondary compartment 22. The secondary compartment 22 is covered and uncovered by way of the enclosure flap 24. The enclosure flap 24 has an enclosure flap frontal attachment 28 sewn on one side, and an enclosure flap backside attachment 26 sewn on the other side. The exterior frontside of the primary compartment 16 has a primary compartment attachment 30 sewn on, and the secondary compartment border 20 has a secondary compartment attachment 18 sewn on. When the enclosure flap 24 is in the open position, the enclosure flap frontal attachment 28 is attached to the primary compartment attachment 30. When the enclosure flap 24 is in the closed position, the enclosure flap backside attachment 26 is attached to the secondary compartment attachment 18.
  • The Tote Bag Compartment Enclosure System is constructed by sewing the edges of a tote bag together to make a four sided tote bag. An enclosure flap 24 is cut out from the lower front part of the tote bag to provide access to the secondary compartment 22. A secondary compartment border 20 is sewn to the bottom of the secondary compartment 22 to assist in securing the framing of the secondary compartment 22, and to serve as an integral piece in the process of securing the enclosure flap 24 in the closed position. A rigid framing member is dropped into the bag from the top opening, and slid down to the secondary compartment 22 for structure and support. Hook and loop tape strips are sewn onto four different locations of the tote bag to provide an attachment method for the enclosure flap 24 when secured in the open or closed position. A primary compartment zipper 12 is sewn to the perimeter of the primary compartment cover 10, as well as the top perimeter of the primary compartment 16 to provide a way for the primary compartment cover 10 to be fully secured to the primary compartment 16. Bag handles 14 are sewn to the front and back sides of the tote bag in order to lift and transport the tote bag.
  • The Tote Bag Compartment Enclosure System is different from other tote bag inventions because it has a secondary compartment 22 below a primary compartment 16, and an enclosure flap 24 that pivots upwards or downwards to open or close the secondary compartment 22. Secondly, the enclosure flap 24 is locked into place by hook and loop tape. Lastly, the enclosure flap 24 locks into place in both the open and closed positions.

Claims (2)

1) A compartment enclosure system for a tote bag, comprising of:
a secondary compartment below a primary compartment;
an enclosure flap that pivots up or down to expose or cover the secondary compartment; and
hook and loop tape that locks the enclosure flap in place.
2) The compartment enclosure system for a tote bag as claimed in claim 1, wherein the enclosure flap can be locked into place in both the open and closed positions.
