Description
Aug. 6, 1935. -o. BOCHMANN 2,010,255
MULTISTORY TWISTING MACHINE Filed May 15, 1935 Patented Aug. 6, 1935 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE MULTISTORY TWISTIN G MACHINE Application May 13, 1933, Serial No. 670,949 In Germany June 25, 1932 2 Claims.
This invention relates to a multi-story twisting machine in which the rows of spindles of every story are driven by a circulating driving band.
The known twisting machines of this type are provided with single twist twisting spindles which stand in vertical position, the belt moving along the spindles being guided over cylindrical pulleys.
The known double twist twisting spindles are, however, mostly arranged in one row and driven by a band from driving drums extending along the entire length of the machine, and as these spindles are in inclined position, for the purpose of maintaining the unwinding bobbins at rest, the drives employed in the known twisting machines with single twist twisting spindles cannot be employed. It has been proposed to employ belt drive in connection with double twist twisting machines. The belt guide was, however, in horizontal position so that also the spindles must assume an absolutely horizontal position. Such an arrangement is, however, complicated and requires much power, the more so as the whole pressure acts on the spindles upon the bearing points, wherefrom results further a premature wear. The above mentioned double twist twisting machines with band drive possess, although the spindle can assume an inclined position, very close to the perpendicular position, the objection that they require very much space, and nevertheless only comparatively few spindles can be accommodated.
This invention has for its object to avoid these inconveniences.
It consists in the employment of inclined positioned double twist twisting spindles in multistory machines, in which the driving band is conducted over conical belt guiding pulleys arranged between the spindle rows of the individual story. It is advisable to subdivide once or several times the conical belt guiding pulleys in order to equalize the different circumferential speeds. It is further advisable to movably arrange the conical belt guiding pulleys, this characteristic feature forming, however, no part of the invention. The change of direction of the belt at the ends of the machine is effected by means of cylindrical pulleys for changing direction having a rim in order to thus prevent the belt from slipping eff in downward direction. According to the length or the machine supporting rollers for the belt may also be provided spaced at certain distances apart.
For further explanation it may be mentioned that the belt guiding can be effected also by 0bliquely arranged belt guide rollers, or straight discs with a section belt bevelled in accordance with the spindle position may be employed.
This invention presents the advantage that the simplest driving means can be employed for inclined double twist twisting spindles arranged in several stories, whereby an extremely narrow width of the machine and the accommodation of a greater number of spindles than hitherto are attained. A perfect economical exploitation of the machine is therefore ensured with simplest and cheapest production of the machine. A further advantage consists in that by the special belt guiding a perfect rotation of the spindles is ensured.
An embodiment of the invention is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawing in which the only figure shows the improved twisting machine in cross section.
The machine frame i carries on each side outwardly inclined double twist twisting spindles 4 and 5 arranged in several stories the one above the other on spindle bars 2 and 3, the threads being conducted from these spindles over thread guides 6 and 1 to the winding spools 8 and 9 arranged above the corresponding row of spindles. The spindles in the opposite rows of spindles are driven by an endless belt ill or I l extending along the spindle and to which belt by bevelled belt guiding pulleys I2 or I3 an oblique position is ensured in accordance with the position of the spindles. In order to prevent premature wear of the belt, it is advisable to subdivide once or several times the bevelled pulleys l2 and IS in order to thus equalize the different circumferential speeds.
I claim:-
1. In a multi-story twisting machine in which the rows of spindles of each story are each driven by a circulating driving band, the combination of inclined double twist twisting spindles arranged in rows in each story, conical pulleys arranged between the rows of spindles of each story, and a belt guided on its inner side over said pulleys and bearing on its outer side against said spindles to eiiect the rotation thereof.
2. A multi-story twisting machine as specified in claim 1, in which the conical belt guiding pulleys are subdivided.
. OTIO BOCHMANN.
