Description
- 1. Field of Invention
- The present invention relates to a garbage storage device that can be positioned flush against a wall.
- 2. Related Prior Art
- People dispose of garbage in garbage bins. Some garbage stinks some time after its disposal. Of course, garbage is not aesthetically pleasing. Therefore, some garbage bins are equipped with lids in order to keep the odor of such garbage therein or simply to conceal garbage.
- Some lids can be removed from garbage bins. However, such a lid causes a user trouble for he or she has to hold the lid during disposal of garbage or find a place to lay the lid on before disposal of garbage.
- FIG. 8 shows a conventional
garbage storage device 30 including abase 32, abin 34 installed on thebase 32, apedal 36 pivotally mounted on thebin 34, alid 38 pivotally mounted on thebin 34 via ahinge 40 and a linkage (not shown) arranged between thepedal 36 and thelid 38. Thus, thepedal 36 can be trodden so as to pivot thelid 38. Thehinge 40 is mounted on an internal face of thebin 34, thus rendering it impossible to put thegarbage storage device 30 flush against a wall. Ahandle 42 is mounted on thehinge 40 so as to facilitate carrying of thegarbage storage device 30; however, it is not aesthetically pleasing. - The present invention is therefore intended to obviate or at least alleviate the problems encountered in prior art.
- It is the primary objective of the present invention to provide a garbage storage device that can be positioned flush against a wall.
- According to the present invention, a garbage storage device includes a base with a flat back, a bin being mounted on the base and including a flat back in flush with that of the base, a pedal mounted on one of the base and the internal bin, a hinge being mounted on the internal bin and including a flat back in flush with that of the base, a lid pivotally connected with the hinge and a lever being connected between the pedal and the lid and received in the bin.
- The garbage storage device may include an internal bin received in the external bin.
- The internal bin may include a recessed back for defining a space together with the flat back of the external bin for receiving the lever.
- In an aspect, the pedal is mounted on the base. The pedal is an elongated element including a first end and a second end, and is substantially within the base except for its first end extending through an aperture defined in a front portion of the base.
- The garbage storage device may include a handle with an intermediate portion and two terminal portions transversely extending from the intermediate portion. The terminal portions of the handle are movably inserted in the hinge between an extended position for use and a concealed position when idle.
- The hinge defines a recess in a top face so as to facilitate manipulation of the handle. The lid may define a recess in a top face. The recesses may together make a circular or oval recess so as to facilitate manipulation of the handle.
- Other objects, advantages, and novel features of the invention will become more apparent from the following detailed description when taken in conjunction with the attached drawings.
- The present invention will be described through detailed illustration of embodiments referring to the attached drawings wherein:
- FIG. 1 is a perspective front view of a garbage storage device according to a first embodiment of the present invention;
- FIG. 2 is a perspective rear view of the garbage storage device according to the first embodiment of the present invention;
- FIG. 3 is an exploded view of the garbage storage device according to the first embodiment of the present invention;
- FIG. 4 is a cross-sectional view of the garbage storage device according to the first embodiment of the present invention;
- FIG. 5 is an enlarged partial cross-sectional view of the garbage storage device according to the first embodiment of the present invention;
- FIG. 6 is identical to FIG. 4 but showing the garbage storage device according to the first embodiment of the present invention in an open position;
- FIG. 7 is a perspective front view of a garbage storage device according to a second embodiment of the present invention; and
- FIG. 8 is a cross-sectional view of a garbage storage device according to prior art.
- Referring to FIG. 1, according to a first embodiment of the present invention, a
garbage storage device 2 can be positioned flush against a wall. - Referring to FIGS. 2 and 3, the
garbage storage device 2 includes abase 4, apedal 6 pivotally mounted on thebase 4, anexternal bin 7 mounted on the base, aninternal bin 8 received in theexternal bin 7, ahinge 10 mounted on theinternal bin 8 and alid 12 pivotally connected with thehinge 10. - The
base 4 includes a flat back (not numbered). Theexternal bin 7 includes aflat back 14 in flush with that of thebase 4. Thehinge 10 includes a flat back (not numbered) in flush with that of thebase 4. Thus, thegarbage storage device 2 can be positioned flush against a wall. - Referring to FIG. 4, the
pedal 6 is an elongated element including a first end and a second end. Thepedal 6 is substantially within thebase 4 except for its first end extending through an aperture defined in a front portion of thebase 4. Thus, the first end of thepedal 6 can be trodden. Apin 16 is driven through thepedal 6 into thebase 4, thus pivotally mounting thepedal 6 on thebase 4. Thepedal 6 is linked with alever 18. Thelever 18 includes a first end pivotally connected with the second end of thepedal 6 and a second end pivotally connected with thelid 12. Thus, treading on first end of the pedal causes pivotal movement of thelid 12 from a position shown in FIG. 4 to a position shown in FIG. 5. - The
internal bin 8 includes a recessedback 20. Thus, a space is defined between theflat back 14 of theexternal bin 7 and the recessedback 20 for receiving thelever 18. - Referring to FIG. 5, a
handle 22 includes an intermediate portion and two terminal portions transversely extending from the intermediate portion. The terminal portions of thehandle 22 are movably inserted in thehinge 10. Thus, thehandle 22 can be moved between an extended position for use and a concealed position when idle. Arecess 24 is defined in a top face of thehinge 10 and arecess 26 is defined in a top face of thelid 12. Therecesses handle 22. - FIG. 7 shows a garbage storage device according to a second embodiment of the present invention. The second embodiment is identical to the first embodiment except for including a different shape.
- The present invention has been described through detailed illustration of the preferred embodiment. Those skilled in the art can derive many variations from the preferred embodiment without departing from the scope of the present invention. Therefore, the preferred embodiment shall not limit the scope of the present invention. The scope of the present invention is defined in the attached claims.
