12 Claims.-

This invention relates to toy pistolsand'has for its object the provision of an article of this character especially adapted for propelling marbles along a substantially horizontal surface into a goal member disposed upon said surface thereby providing entertainment for children.

1 This object is attained by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawing.

Forthe purpose of illustrating the invention, one preferred form thereof is illustrated in the drawing, this form having been found to give satisfactory and reliable results, although it is to beunderstood that the various instrumentalities of which the invention consists can be variously arranged and organized, and the invention is not limited to the precise arrangement and. organization of these instrumentalities as herein shown and described except as required by the scope of the appended claims.

Between the inner wall of the housing I0 and thehead 36 of said plunger is a spring 38, the tension of which will retain the plunger 31 in retractedposition when the slidable member I4 is withdrawn from the path thereof.

The lower end of the barrel portion, I I is wholly enclosed by the wall 35 and from this wall 35 extends two headed. studs 39 adapted to coact with keyhole slots 40 in a supporting plate 4|.

This plate M is bifurcated as at' 42 thereby forming a track on which a marble 43 may be disposed when thepistol is to be used.

In connection with the pistol a goal member 44 is used which is made of lead or other heavy metal and is disposed on a substantially horizontal surface 46. a

This goal member 44 is circular with inclined sides and a central depression 45 as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawing.

The operator then by grasping the handle por tion I2 and pulling the finger I5 towards the handle, the slidable member l4 may be raised it outwardly, said member having a plurality of ratchet teeth; a spring for moving said member downwardly; and a spring-actuated pivoted pawl coacting with said teeth to retain said member in retracted position.

In a device of the class described, a housing formed with a barrel portion and a handle portion; a plunger movable in a bearing perpendicular to and near the outer end of said barrel portion, normally retained in retracted position; mechanism within said housing under tension including a wedge member contacting with the end of said plunger and adapted to force said plunger outwardly; and a marble-holding track member secured to the end of said barrel portion and parallel with said plunger.

In a device of the class described, a housing formed with a. barrel portion and a handle portion; a plunger movable in a bearing perpendicular to and nearthe outer end of said barrel Q portion; a light spring for normally retaining said plunger in retracted position; mechanism within said housing under tension of a heavy spring and adapted, when released, to force said plunger outwardly; and a forked marble-holding track member secured to the end of said barrel portion and parallel with said plunger.
