Description

A. C. CAVEDO Aug. 10, 193 7.
WINDOW SHADE HOLDER Filed Dec. 5, 1936 Jvvucufon Patented Aug. 10, 1937 UNHTED STATES PATENT OFFICE WINDOW SHADE HOLDER Archie C. Cavedo, Durham, N. 0.
Application December 3, 1936, Serial No. 114,056
1 Claim.
This invention relates to a window shade holder and it primarily aims to provide a novel means which will prevent the shade from blowing out into the room when the adjacent window is raised,
5 and will also allow privacy in the room at the same time, although permitting slight clearance to provide for circulation of air.
Various additional objects and advantages will in part be pointed out hereinafter and otherwise 10 become apparent from a consideration of the description following taken in connection with accompanying drawing illustrating an operative embodiment.
In said drawing:-
15 Figure 1 is a perspective view showing my improvements embodied at the lower portion of a window, and
Figure 2 is an enlarged detail perspective View of a fragment of a window and shade illustrating 20 the use of my improvements.
Referring specifically to the drawing wherein like reference characters designate like or similar parts, I designates a conventional window frame associated with which is a shade ll of textile 25 fabric or other flexible material usually rolled on a roller fastened at the top of the window and adapted to be raised and lowered. The lower end portion of the shade is formed into a loop l2 in which a wooden strip I3 is removably placed 30 as usual.
In accordance with the invention, holders are employed comprising walls I4 which are attached to the side stiles l5 of the window frame on the interior of a building, through the medium of 35 flanges l6 and screws or other fastenings I! passing therethrough, it being realized that the holders are made in right and left hand ones since the flanges l6 should extend in opposite directions for right and left hand use as shown in Figure 1.
40 Integral with the walls l4 and at the upper forward ends thereof are hooks I8 open at the bottom at IS, the forward edges of the walls l4 being curved as at 20 and merging into the throat of the hook.
To adapt the shade for co-action with the hooks, studs are provided thereon at H and the same 5 may be ordinary nails driven into the wooden strips l3.
As a result of the construction described, the shade l I when in lowered position will be retained therein by pulling the shade down until the studs 10 2! engage the edges 20 and the shade is permitted to retract so that the studs enter the openings of the hooks l8 and are retained therein. In this position, it will be realized that the shade cannot be blown in or out of the window and thus privacy is insured, when the sashes of the window or the sash adjacent the shade H, is open. It will also be realized that a slight space such as is shown at 22, is left between the window sill and the lower edge of the shade, for ventilating purposes, although not enough to interfere with privacy.
Various changes may be resorted to provided they fall within the spirit and scope of the invention.
I claim as my invention:-
In combination with a window shade having a strip adjacent the lower edge thereof, studs secured to said strip and extending laterally beyond the same, means providing hooks open at the lower ends and engageable by said studs to retain the shade against movement, said means being walls disposed at substantially a right angle to the plane of the shade, said walls having elongated forward edges extending upwardly and forwardly and leading to the slots of the hooks, whereby the studs will be guided by such edges into said slots, said hooks having their bills extending inwardly and attaching flanges extending angularly from said walls.
