ATTORNEYS.
Patented Apr. 27, 1937 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE DETACHABLY SUSPENDED BAG Application May 14, 1936, Serial No. 79,721
1 Claim.
The present invention relates to detachably suspended bags and more particularly to laundry bags especially adapted and designed for the reception of soiled linen.
5 The primary objects of the instant invention are to provide a laundry bag having a double compartment, the several compartments being.
adapted to receive and retain different classes of soiled linen requiring different types of laundry service; to provide a suitable hanger for detachably supporting such a bag in a manner maintaining the mouth of each compartment thereof open and convenient for the reception of soiled linen within the selected compartment thereof; and, to provide such a detachably supported laundry bag which is utilitarian in use, convenient in its arrangement and economical in manufacture.
An illustrative embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 is a front elevational view of the laundry bag in its normally supported position;
Figure 2 is a view thereof showing the manner in which the bag may be secured to or removed 5 from its hanger;
Figure 3 is another View of the bag showing 1 the same supported in a manner in which its dual mouths have been closed after the laundry bag has been filled with soiled linen; and Figure 4 is an enlarged fragmentary view of a form of hanger from which the dual compartment bag may be detachably suspended.
Referring to the drawing in which like parts of the bag and its hanger are designated by the same numerals in the several views, the bag made from any suitable material, such as canvas, has an outer rear wall l0, an outer front wall I I, and an intermediate or inner wall I2.
The outer rear wall ll] of the dual compartment bag is here shown as provided with spaced parallel grommets I3, l4 and I5 adjacent its open or upper marginal width whereas the front outer wall II and the intermediate wall I2 are each here shown as respectively provided with a single grommet I6, I! adjacent each of their respective upper marginal widths and substantially medially of their several widths.
A hanger generally designated 25, is here shown as provided with triple spaced substantially parallel and. laterally or forwardly projecting hooks l8, I9 and 20, the outer hooks I8, 20 being adapted to receive the grommets l3 and I5 for detachably suspending the bag and the hook I9 being adapted to receive the grommets I4, I 6 and I1 of the rear outer wall In, front outer wall II and intermediate wall I2 respectively.
The grommets l4 and I6, may be dispensed. with if desired since both mouths of the dual compartment bag will nevertheless be maintained open for the reception of articles within either selected compartment when the rear outer wall It and the intermediate wall l2 of the bag is suspended by the grommets l3, I5 and I! respectively.
It will thus be seen that the detachably suspended bag herein shown and described is particularly well adapted for use as a laundry bag whose several compartments may be used for the reception of different classes of soiled linen prior to its being sent to the laundry. Thus, soiled linen which is to be merely washed may be conveniently stuffed into the openly maintained mouth leading to one compartment of the bag and soiled linen which is to be both washed and ironed may be readily introduced into the openly maintained mouth leading to the other compartment of the bag. When the laundry is collected, the collector thereof can readily remove the filled laundry bag and substitute an empty one therefor, delivering the filled bag to the laundry whose operators are not compelled to sort out one class of soiled linen requiring one class of service from the soiled linen requiring a different class of service since the several compartments retain the two classes of soiled linens.
While but one specific embodiment of this invention has been herein shown and described, it will be understood that certain details of the construction shown may be altered or omitted without departing from the spirit of this invention as defined by the following claim.
I claim:
A bag and suspending means for detachably suspending the bag therefrom, said baghaving a wall disposed intermediate its outer walls to provide dual compartments therein, and means for detachably suspending an outer wall of the bag from the suspending means at spaced points adjacent its upper end and for detachably securing the intermediate wall of the bag to the suspending means adjacent its upper end whereby both mouths of the dual compartment bag are maintained open for the reception of articles within either selected compartment.
