This invention relates to a game apparatus of the character which involves the use of balls and cues in playing game therewith.

The principal object of the invention is the provision of a game apparatus embodying novel features and improvements whereby persons may play interesting and amusing games in the manner of pool and billiards.

With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists of the features as hereinafter described and claimed, and as illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which- Fig. 1 is a perspective View of an apparatus embodying the invention.

Referring now more particularly to the several views of the drawing, it will be apparent that the apparatus includes a table consisting generally of an under structure Il) and a top structure II. The under structure I consists of a rectangular frame I2 having four legs I3 at the corners thereof. Each of the legs I3 has an adjustable foot I4 for leveling the playing surface in the case of uneven or inclined floors. The top structure I I includes a rectangular frame I5 to which is secured a panel or board I6. The board I6 is surrounded by a frame I'I. The board I6 is covered by cloth I8 in order to provide a smooth playing surface. The board I6 has a plurality of holes I9 therethrough, the holes being grouped at one end. A short tubular member 20 is secured in each of the holes I9. The tubular member 20 is made of rubber. The

cloth I8 is extended downwardly into each of the tubular members 20, as shown most clearly in Fig. 4. A pin 2I is secured to the board I6 and projects upwardly from the playing surface. The pin 2| is disposed approximately centrally of the playing surface in advance of the group of holes I9. A taw or foul line 22 is marked on the cloth I8 at a suitable distance from the pin 2I. Resilient rails 23, which are cloth covered, bound the playing surface, it being apparent that these 5U rails provide a rectangular boundary with respect to the holes I9, pin 2| and line 22. The top structure II is hingedly connected at one end with one end of the under structure I0, as at 24, in order that the structure I I may be swung 5r up and down with respect to the structure I0.

Gutters 25 are secured to the frame I2 of the under structure I0, there being one gutter 25 for each of the holes I9. The inner end 26 of each gutter extends upwardly in registry with the related hole I9 and the outer end projects be- 5 yond the frame I2 to provide a pocket 21 open at the top. This is accomplished by the use of an end member 28 disposed in spaced relation to the adjacent end member 23 of the frame I2. Each of the gutters 25 extends forwardly and l0 downwardly in order that the balls used will find their way to the pockets 2l from the holes I9. Receptacles 38 are secured to the frame I2 to receive the cues used in playing. The end member 29 has holes 3| therein for inserting the cues l5 into the receptacles 36. The top structure II may be swung upwardly on the hinges 24 in order to give access to the gutters 25 in the event one or more balls became lodged therein,

and also to give access to the cues in the recep- 20 Y tacles 38.

In accordance with another feature of the invention, use is made of a barrier 32 movable into one position with respect to the gutters 25 beyond the pockets 2l to prevent balls from enter- 25 ing said pockets, and is also movable into another position to allow balls to enter the pockets 21. The barrier 32 is under the control of a coin control and time mechanism 33 of any suitable type. The mechanism includes a manipulating 30 member 34. The mechanism is secured to the frame I2 and said member 34 projects through the member 29 thereof. By inserting a proper coin in the slot 35, the member 34 may be manipulated to raise the barrier 32 so that the balls 35 may run into the pockets 2'I. At a predetermined interval thereafter, the mechanism 33 operates to move the barrier 32 into an obstructing positionto check the balls, as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 2. It is, therefore, understood 40 that each player is given a centain amount of time in which to play after depositing the proper coin.

Certain of the holes I9 may be given a certain value in scoring points. In the present instance, 45 five of the holes I9 are given values as follows. Two of the holes are given the Value of ten, two are given the value of twenty, and one is given the value of thirty. These values are marked adjacent the holes on an upstanding strip 36 on 50 one end of the frame I'I so as to face the player. Each of the pockets 27 is given a definite value indicated by numbers painted or otherwise applied to the end member 23. The value of ve of the pockets corresponds to the value of the holes I9, respectively. The values given the pockets 21 are as follows. Two of the pockets are given the value of ten, two are given the value of twenty, one is given the value of thirty, two are given the value of ity `and one is given the value of one hundred.

In accordance with the invention, use is made perferably of eight object balls and a cue ball of a different color from the object balls in order to be readily distinguished therefrom. The object ball may be red for instance. Each player, as stated, is allotted a deinite time in which to make as many points as possible. The player places one object ball at a time in front of the pin 2l at a reasonable distance. The cue ball is placed at the taw line 22. The player uses the cue to propel the cue ball against the object ball in an endeavor to make the object ball enter the hole having the highest value. The score is kept by the ball entering the pockets 21. The cue ball entering one ofthe pockets by way of one of the holes |9and its related gutter 25 counts double in scoring. The object of the game is to score the highest number of points in the allotted time to be declared the winner. Any other suitable rules and regulations may be applied or govern in playing,

I claim:

A game apparatus comprising a structure having -a horizontal playing surface and resilient rails bounding the surface throughout, said structure also having a plurality of holes therethrough,

each of which opens through said surface, downwardly projecting rubber tubular members in said openings of an internal diameter suiiciently large for the passage of a ball therethrough, and a plurailty of gutters below said tubular members extending forwardly and downwardly and into which the tubular members direct balls passing therethrough, and numbered pockets communicating with the forward ends of said gutters respectively.
