My invention relates generally to cigarette containers, and particularly to a cigarette container forming a package of cigarettes including matches, and an important object of my invention is to provide a practical and convenient device of this character which is adequately efficient and inexpensive to warrant general use thereof.

It is also an important object of my invention to provide a container of the character described which is formed substantially of a single sheet of material and which may be made in different sizes for containing different numbers of cigarettes and matches.

Other objects and advantages of my invention will be apparent from a reading of the following description in connection with the drawing, wherein for purposes of illustration I have shown a preferred embodiment of my invention.

Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral 5 refers generally to the tube of the container in which the slide I5 is telescoped. The slide 6 is to contain the cigarettes I while the tube 5 contains both the slide and the matches 8.

The tube is formed from the blank shown in Figure 5 in a single piece comprising the body 40 portion 9, the side portion I9, the back portion II, the side portion I2 and the back flap I3. On the upper end of the main body portion is a flap or portion I6 and on the lower end of the main body portion 9 is the portion I5 which has 45 a transverse row of holes I6 therein and the fold lines ZI and 22 arranged one on each side of said row and paralleling the same. The main part of the blank is folded on the lines 28 and 29, 30 and SI, and the flap I3 fastened in any 50 suitable manner to a portion of the inner face of the back II. The blank is slit on the upper portions of the fold lines 29 and 30 as shown at 29 and 30, the material between the slits forming an extension of the flap I4 and this 55 extension is provided with a transverse row of holes I? and the pair of fold lines 24 and 25. Above the line 25 and below the line 24 are the match striking portions I8 and I9.

The extension of the flap I4 is first folded on the line 24 and then on the line 25 and inwardly 5 of the box formed by the previous folding ot the blank so that the row of holes II'will be in the substantially horizontally arranged portion of the extension between the lines 24 and 25 as shown in Figures 1, 3, and 4, the flap I4 10 extending downwardly from the fold line 25 substantially vertical for the major portion of its length and parallel to a portion of the front 9, the parts 9 and I4 being connected together by a staple 21 or other fastening device. This 15 folding of the flap and the extension formed by a part of the front 9 places the horizontal portion carrying the holes H at a point spaced from the top of the box as shown.

The portion or flap I5 is folded upwardly into 20 the box and against the inner face of the front 9 and then folded on the line 2I and then on the line 22, so as to provide a horizontal portion between the fold lines ZI and 22 which carries the holes I6 as shown in Figure 4. The part 23 25 below the fold line 22 of the flap I5 extends downwardly a short distance in spaced relation to the main part of the flap I5 and then slopes downwardly into contact with said main part as shown in Figure 4. The flap I4 ex- 30 tends downwardly over the part 23 and its sloping portion and then continues downwardly into contacting relation with the lower portion of the part I5 as also shown in Figure 4. The lower ends of the front 9, the flap I5 and the flap I4, are connected together by the staples 21. As will be seen from Figure 4, the folding of the flap I4 and its extension will place the striking surfaces I8 and IS in parallel relation and immediately under the parts carrying the holes IT.

The matches 8 pass downwardly through the holes I! and I6 with their heads lowermost and said heads are located in the space formed by the portions I5 and 23.

Thus, by pulling upon the exposed end of the match its head will be drawn through a hole I6 and a hole I? and as it passes between the striking surfaces I8 and I9 the head of the match will be ignited.

The slide herein generally designated by the numeral 6 comprises the rectangular main body portion 33 having on opposite sides flaps 34, 35 adapted to be bent'on the lines 3B, 3?, respectively. On opposite ends of the body portion 33 are short flaps 38, 39 which form the top and bottom respectively of the slide. The flap 39 has a long extension 49 adapted to be positioned as shown in Figure 2 behind the match chamber; while the flap 38 has a shorter extension l which is adapted to assume the position shown in Figure 6 and in Figure 1 to hold the cigarettes in the container. The flap 38 and the extension form the cover of the container which is displaceable in a conventional manner as shown in Figure'2 to expose the contents of the slide.

What -is claimed is:-

A container of the class described comprising a casing having its ends open and'its front terminating an appreciable distance from one of said ends at the upper end of the front, a flap connected with the said upper end and extend- 7 ing inwardly a short distance and then downwardly in spaced relation to the inner'face of the front, the inwardly extending portion having a longitudinally extending row of holes therein, a flap connected with the lower end of the front extending upwardly into contact with the inner face of the front and then bent at right angles and then downwardly a short distance at right angles to the inwardly extending portion and then sloping downwardly into contact with an intermediate portion of that part of the flap which contacts the front, the: inwardly extending portion having a row of holes therein, and the space below the hole carrying portion receiving the heads of the matches, the stems of which pass through the two sets of holes, the first mentioned depending portion contacting the downwardly extending portion of the lower flap and extending to the bottom of the casing, and means for fastening the parts together, and striking surfaces on the adjacent faces of the first mentioned depending portion and the front immediately under the first mentioned hole carrying portion.
