Application April 22, 1938, Serial No. 75.667
Shower bath curtains are usually suspended A from a horizontal rod by means oi a plurality of rings. The rings are freely slidable along the rod, permitting the curtain to be extended along the rod to enclose the alcove or to be folded at one end of the rod. Curtain suspensions of this.
type are unsatisfactory in that they do not retain the edges of the curtain against the walls oi the shower bath alcove, thereby allowing the shower water to splash around the curtain and onto the ilocr ci kthe bathroom.
To provide a satisfactory means of holding a shower bath curtain along one Ivertical edge, and overcoming the undesirable splashing, the present invention includes a simple, easily-installed guide member in which one edge oi a shower curtain may be releasably held, permitting easy removal of the same, and yet edectually preventing the edge oi the curtain from separating from the wall. susceptible to conforming to any type of wall decoration, is attractive in appearance, and may be readily installed in connection either witha bathtub shower or a shower alcove or stall.`
For a better understanding oi the invention reference may be had to the accompanying draw ing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a view of my improved shower bath curtain guard installed for use with a bathtub shower.
Fig. 2 is an.elevation oi a section oi my guard.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on line i of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a cross-section of a modiiled shape of guard, and
Fig. 5 is a cross-section of a further modication.
'I'he construction disclosed in Figs. 2 and 3 ccnsists of `a rectangular elongated channel member 2 having a narrow longitudinal slot 8. the edges 4, B adjacent the slot 8 being provided with beads 8 and Il),- respectively, to avoid cutting of the shower curtain I2. -The curtain I2, in the preferred embodiment is provided with a beaded edge I, produced Vby lapping the edge of the curtain i2 around a cord or rope I8. and stitching the free end to the curtain as at' I8. The beaded edge I4 produced is of sumcient thickness that it cannot pass between beads 8 and I@ of the The construction of my device renders it channel member 2. The same result may be achieved by attaching a series of enlarged iittings, such as balls or rods. to the edge of the curtain I2.
' The wall of the channel member 2, opposite slot 8, may be provided with screw holes 20, and the edges d, 6 may be provided with notches 22b permitting insertion of the screws 23 into the apertures 20.
The channel member 2 is preferably installed along one wall ci the shower bath alcove, as shown in Fig. 1, and is oi such length that it extends from about six inches above the tub 2d -to about three'inches b low the rod 26. In this way the curtain may b swung either into or out of tub ad and may be inserted into or removed from the channel 2, either from the tcp vor from the bottom.
In Fig. 4 is disclosed a modiilcation of the crosssectional shape of the guard. The channel member 82 in this construction is substantially cylindrical with a flattenedwall-engagingportion 36, provided with screwapertures 38 and an axial slot 39. donned by beaded edges t0, t2.
Fig. 5 discloses a furthermodication oi' the 25 guard consisting or a dat base portion 50. having converging reversely curved walls 52, 5t theopposing edges being beaded as at 68 and E8.
In all of the forms shown, the beaded edge of the shower curtain I2 is retained rmly in the 30 guard so that it cannot be pulled out during normal use of the shower bath. The curtain I2 may n win be understood that the' foregoing ons many other variations may be made in the invention described, all falling within the scope of the invention as defined in the following claims.
I claim:
1. In a shower bath curtain guard, the combination of an elongated member adapted to v be secured to a wall, and spaced anges along the sides of the member defining a narrow lon gitudinal slot for the reception of the enlarged lateral edge oi a shower bath curtain.
2. Ina shower bath curtain guard. the combination of an elongated channel member adapted to be secured to a wall, inwardly turned lat- 4nal slot for receiving the enlarged lateral edge of a shower bath curtain, and meansior securing said member to a wall.
3. In a shower bath curtain guard, the combination of an elongated channel member having apertures therein for receiving attachingmeans to secure the member to a wall, converging sides on the channel-member defining a narrow longitudinal slot for receiving the lateral edge of a shower bath curtain, and beads on the edges of said sides. A
4. In a shower bath curtain guard, the combination of an elongated channel member adapted to be secured to a wall. lateral iianges on the member deining a narrow longitudinal slot tor receiving the enlarged lateral edge o! a shower bath curtain, said member having Aapertures opposite the slot for receiving fastening means to secure it to the wall, and beads along the ,edges of the anges.
5. A guarded shower bath curtain installation, comprising an elongated channel member secured to a wall, flanges on the sides thereof forming a slot extending throughout the length of the member, a shower bath curtain, and an enlarged bead on a lateral edge of the shower bath curtain, said bead being of a width greater lthan the slot and disposed in the channel member.
6. A guarded shower bath curtain installation,
, e 9,040,0c1 eral edges thereon deilnlng a narrow longitudil comprising'v an elongated hollow member secured to a wall, a longitudinal slot in the member, a shower bath curtain, and an enlarged bead on the edge of the curtain, said bead being of greater width than the slot, and disposed in the hollow member with the curtain extending through the slot. 7. A guarded shower bath curtain installation, comprising an elongated channel member secured to a wall and having a narrow longitudinal slot on its outer face, a shower bath curtain, and a bead on the lateral edge of the curtain` having a greater width than the slot and'adapted to be received within the member with the curtain extending through the slot, the slot in the member being shorter than the bead in the curtain to enable ready insertion and withdrawal of the bead in the curtain.
8. A guarded shower bath curtain installation, comprising an elongated channel member secured to a. wall and having a narrow longitudinal slot on its outer face, a shower bath curtain,
and a bead on the lateral edge of the curtain having a greater width than the slot and adapted toA be received within the member with the curtain extending through the slot, the member being secured to the wall with one end thereof spaced from the corresponding end of the curtain to facilitate insertion and withdrawal of the bead from that end of the curtain.
