1 Claim.
The invention relates to a display cabinet and more particularly to a combination shipping and display case.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a cabinet or case of this character wherein storage space is provided and also compartments or cells for accommodating packaged seeds, the said cabinet or case being adapted to be mounted upon a counter and can be turned down at the cover section thereof ready for use and for display purposes.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a cabinet or case of this character wherein the body thereof is so constructed as to afford a surplus storage space for packaged material, such for example as seed, and also the packages to be displayed will be grouped accordingly to the nature of the contents and the pockets or cells for such packages so labeled that when empty the merchant will then know What variety of seed should be replaced for display purposes, certain of the pockets or cells being of a size to readily and conveniently accommodate oversized packets and the packets as therein placed are fully visible for convenience in making a selection by a purchaser.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a cabinet or case of this kind which is extremely simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and efiicient for its purpose, neat and attractive in appearance, convertible for shipping purposes and also for display purposes, strong, durable, and inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described in detail, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which discloses the preferred embodiment of the invention and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a cabinet or case constructed in accordance with the invention, the same being converted for display purposes.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the cabinet or case closed for shipping purposes.
Figure 3 is an enlarged vertical sectional view on the line 3-3 of Figure 2 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view showing in detail the pocket construction of the cabinet or case.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail, A designates generally the cabinet or case which includes a body section 10 and cover section 11 respectively. These sections 10 and 11 at their edges 12 and 13 are diagonally disposed so that when the section 11 is superimposed upon the section 10 they will align with each other in matched vertical relation, the section 11 being connected with the section 10 through a flexing hinge 14, thus the said section 11 can be swung to open or closed position from and onto the section 10 and when in open position the said section 11 will have its edge 13 aligned with. the edge 14 of the section 10 and these edges will be in a forwardly inclined direction with both sections opening upwardly. The sections 10 and 11 when the body A is open will assume the position as shown in Figure 1 of the drawing and when the body is closed the said sections will assume the position as shown in Figure 2 of said drawing.
Arranged within the sections 10 and 11 are spaced vertical transversely and longitudinally arranged partitions 15 and 16 respectively to provide rows of pockets or cells 17, these being in stepped relation in said sections 10 and 11 and receivable in these pockets 1'7 and packaged materials, for example, seed packets. Certain of the pockets 1'7, preferably those next to the shallow area of the section 11 are oversized so as to accommodate oversized packets. The partitions 15 are provided with ears 18, these interfitting the partitions 16 for the interlocking of such partitions together in their arranged relation.
The section 10 has provided therein beneath the pockets 17 as provided therein a surplus storage space or compartment 19 accessible from the rear of said section through a suitable doorway normally closed by a door 20 hinged at 21 and carrying a hand hold 22. The space or compartment 19 is adapted to accommodate reserve stock of packaged material.
Arranged; above the door 20 on the section 10 at its rear wall is a pair of clips 23, these removably accommodating an advertising medium, such as a sign, placard, or the like 24. It is preferably to identify the pockets 1'7 through the medium of a label or other identification mark 25 indicative of the character of packaged material as held within such pockets. The pockets are of a capacity to accommodate a determined number of packets and these are displayed as the same protrude above the height of the pockets in their arrangement.
The body at one end thereof carries a catalogue hanger 26 which may be of any desirable type.
The cabinet or case when in service for shipping purposes is closed as is shown in Figure 2 of the drawing and when in service for display purposes is open as shown in Figure 1 of the drawing.
What is claimed is:
A case of the character described comprising a box-like body split intermediate) thereof diagonally with respect to the horizontal to provide upper and lower sections, a, plurality of ingly connecting the sections together at one side only of the body, whereby said sections can be-brought next to each other with the open .portions uppermost and in the same angular disposition with respect to each other and likewise with the ends of said body in the same horizontal plane with each other.
