ABRAM J. STOLL, OF MEOHANIOSVILLE, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT IN ROTARY CHURNS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N o. i92,540, dated June 26, 1877; application filed June 8, 1877.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ABRAM J. Mom, of Mechanicsville, in the county of Cedar, and in the State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ohurns; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a revolving or barrel churn, the peculiarities of which will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
To enable those skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
In the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a side View, Fig. 2 a longitudinal section, and Fig. 3 a 'plan view of the dasher.
In the figures, A represents a barrel, in which the milk is placed to be churned. This barrel is provided upon its sides with two plates, at a, projecting from which are the trunnions e 0.
These trunnions rest in suitable hearings in the upper ends of the standards K K, which standards are erected upon, and firmly secured to, the base J.
A handle, L, secured to one of the trunnions, serves to revolve the barrel.
B represents a shaft, which is centrally located in the barrel, having one bearing in the bottom of the barrel, and another in a sleeve, 0, which is attached to the top.
E represents the top, which is provided with a shoulder, which fits snugly upon the top of the barrel.
F F represent loops, which are secured to two sides of the barrel near its top. G represents a cross-bar, which is provided at its ends with two hooks, H H, and has passing vertically through its center a set-screw, I.
The hooks H H catch into theloops F F on the barrel, and the lower end of the setscrew, working against a metallic plate on the top G, firmly binds the said top to the barrel.
D D represent four stationary dashers, which are perforated with holes, as usual. These dashers are secured to the shaft B at its center, so that an equal chamber is formed between said dasher and the ends of the barrel.
When milk is placed in the barrel, and said barrel is revolved upon its trunnions, the milk is cast from one end to the other, through the holes in the dashers, and thus its globules are broken.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- A barrel-churn, as described, having the shaft B, dashers D D, cross-piece G, set-screw I, hooks H, loops F, and top E, constructed and arranged as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 25th day of May, 1877.
ABRAM J. STOLL.
