s g FILING RACK Ethel Benjamin Adams, Catonsville, Ma., as-
signor to Western Electric Company, Incorporated, New York, N. Y., a Corporation of New York Application July 21, 1931. Serial No. 552,150
3 Claims. (Cl. 211-46) This invention relates to ling and display racks and more especially to a ling or display rack for drawings, tracings, prints, and otherA sheet materials.
The object of this invention is to provide a ling or display rack in which the drawings and the like are readily identified and immediately accessible for inspection and removal.
In the embodiment of the invention shown in the drawing a framework is provided with a cross rail orchannel member having a series of spaced pins between which one end of binding strips or holders attached to the drawings or the like is positioned, and flexible members for Isuspending the opposite ends of binding strips or holders.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be understood by reference to the following specication and accompanying. drawing, in
which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the rack with, for purposes of illustration, a single set of drawings in position;
Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the rack; and
Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail view of the means for supporting the holders.
In the drawing a frame 10 of wood, metal, o any suitable material is provided with a rearward section 11 and side sections 12 and 13. The rearward section 11 is provided with a cross rail or channel member 14 constructed as shown in Fig. v
ori the cross rail or channel member 14, indicia 20 are provided which may be in the form of letters, numbers, or any identification means as desired. f At the top of the frame toward the front a cross piece 21 is provided extending the entire length of the frame in which suspending rings, hooks or the like 22 are located, which are placed in alignment with the center line of the spaces provided between the spacing pins 19. A series of'indicia 23 are provided on the front section 24 directly beneath the hooks or rings 22, corresponding to the indicia 20 of the rearward cross rail or channel member 14.
Extending from each ring or hook 22 are flexible members 25 in the form of leather Strips,
known manner.
chains, rope, cord, or the like, fhaving at their opposite endsrin'gs or hook members 26 terminating above the bottom of channel 18 for a purpose to be hereinafter described.
The drawings 27 or the like to be filed are at- 60 tached to binding strips or holders 28, usually of two complementary sections, having the drawings or the like secured therebetween in any well- These `binding strips or holders 28 are provided at one end with a cut-away sec- 65 tion 29 forming a hook-like member 30 tting into Y channel 18, thus preventing longitudinal moveA ment thereof when in position in the rack, but permitting pivotal movements horizontally and vertically with the hook-like member 30 as a center. The opposite ends of these binding strips or holders 28 are reduced and have slots 31 for the hook or ring members 26. s s
When it is desired to le a drawing or the like, having the binding strips or holders 28 attached thereto, the end thereof with the hook-like portion 30 is placed between selected spacing pins 19v with the hook-like portion thereof in channel 18. The exible member 25, having the correspending indicium 23 as the indicium 20 beneath the binding strip or holder 28, isselected and the hook or ring 26 slipped over the reduced end of the binding strip 28 into slot 31, thus suspending the drawing or the like downwardly. The flexfu ible member 25 is of such a length that the binding strip 28 is inclined from the horizontal as shown in Fig. 2, so that the suspended drawings will have a tendency to remain in the proper position.
A means of identification may be placed on th binding strips or holders 28 such as shown at 22 or on the drawing or the like itself corresponding to indicia 20 and 23, so that the drawing or the like once removed can be replaced in the rack in its proper position with respect to the remaining drawings.
. It will be readily seen that a drawing or the like suspended in the rack by the flexible mem=1 ber 25 can be readily pivoted about section 3D a 100 limited extent in a horizontal or vertical direction for inspection without removal from the rack by merely swinging horizontally or lifting verH tically the binding strips or holders 28. This fea= ture of the `invention will readily adapt itself to i, .j selection of sheet materials on display such as wall .papers and the like.
Obviously, while this present invention is shown and described in connection with le racks for drawings and the like, the invention is not conned thereto, but is intended to cover any supported, and flexible members havingringsm for removably suspending the'opposite ends of said holders.
2. A ling rack comprising a'frame, a plurality f of holders having securing sections at each end,
a channel member secured to' said- A-frame -havi-ngwr spacing pins therein betweenf-Whichpne of said@ securing sections of said holders is' supported'to prevent longitudinal movements of said holders but permitting limited pivotal movements thereof, and flexible members suspended from said frame having ring members cooperating with the opposite securing sections of said holders for suspending said holders.
3. A filing rack comprisingla supporting frame,
-a plurality of holders for suspending sheet ma.-
terials slotted at each end, a channel member carried by said supporting frame for removably and pivotally supporting one of the slotted ends of eachfoffsaid holders, and flexible membersV for removably suspending the opposite slotted ends Yof each^of=saidlholders- ETH-En-BENJAMIN ADAMS.V
