Description

c. M MAHON CONTAINER Aug. 15, 1933.
Filed May 12, 1932 INVENTOR Charles Plcflahun WITNESS:
Patented Aug. 15,1933
UNITED ST TES PATENT OFFICE CONTAINER Charles McMahon, Philadelphia, Pa. 7
Application May '12, 1931. S'erialNo. 610,110 I s Glaims; (c1. eas -1.5)
This invention relates to containers, and has for an object to provide a container of new and improved type composed of transparent sheet material, and'filled and closed in an improved manner. 7
A further object of the invention is to provide a transparent container of approximately conical form, with means facilitating the filling of the container from the base of the cone, and providing means at the apex of the cone for discharging the contents.
A further object of the invention is to provide a container which includes inthe base of the conical structure a shouldered ring into which a 1 disk is inserted for closing, and with a closure for theiapex of the cone for handling.
The invention therefore comprises a conically shaped container of transparent flexible material having its apex folded over and secured, and-a base formed as a shoulderedring with a disk insertedinto the ring and seated upon the shoulder as a closure. I
The drawing illustrates" invention and the iviews therein are as follows:
Figure 1 is .a view ofjthe improved container in elevation,
Figure 2 is a view: diametrical section,;taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1, and
broken away.
Like characters of reference indicate corres- I pending parts throughout the severalviews. I
The improved container, which forms the subject matter of. this application is-especially designed for marketing' and containing such liquids as milk, although it isfnot limited in its utility 1 to such material y-I comprises a base 10, composed of anyappr ve'd material. In practice, it
has been found desirable to mold this base ,of
some fibrous materiaLsuchas paper pulp, but
the invention is in no way limited to this exact, material. The ring is reduced to form a shoulder drawing, it is overlapped at 14 and the edges Secured in any approved manner as by'heating the material itself or by the useof an adhesive.
anebodim nt of th m e e .jbe modified and changed in various ways withtime container in vertical Figure a is arr inverted i planjview with part e or tapered end is folded over as shown at 15"?and is secured also by heat or adhesive, and in addition, a member 16 is applied thereto. I This latter member may bea staple, an eyelet, or any form of fastening member and is designed more especially in assistingin handling the container when filled, but also prevents the adhering parts from separating.
Seated upon the shoulder 11 is a disk 17 which may be made of any sheet materialfound desirable. For filling the container, therefore, it
is inverted and filled from the base and when filled, the disk 1'1 forced to seat in the usual well known manner to close the container by such disk closure.
I For discharging the contents of the container, the-apex below the folded end 15 is cut off and the contents poured out. If only part of the contents are poured out, the top is then twisted to form a tight or relatively tight closure. In this manner, a part only of the contents may be used and the container closed for future use.
Of course, the container herein illustrated may out departing from the invention herein set forth and hereinafter claimed.
The invention is hereby claimed as follows: 1. A container comprising an internally shouldered ring, a conical body erected upon the exterior of the ring, means closing the apex of the conical body, and a disk for closing the ring upon the shoulder.
2. A container comprising a base composed as a ring having an internally inset shoulder and an upstanding part, a conical body of transparent sheet material erected upon and secured to the exterior, of said upstanding part, and a disk closure forced into the ring and seated upon the shoulder.
3. A container comprising an annular base having an annular shoulder therein, a conical transparent body built upon the exterior of the j base and extending thereabove, the apex of said conical body being sealed and provided with a fastening member, and a disk closure for the an-v nular base adapted to be forced to seat upon the shoulder.
4. A container comprising a ring having internal and external rabbets, a container body seated inone rabbet, and a closure seated in another rabbet.
5. A container comprising a ring having internal and external rabbets, a terete container body seated in one rabbet, and a closure seated in another rabbet.
6. A container comprising a base ring having an upper external rabbet, and a lower internal rabbet, a terete container body seated in the external rabbet, and a disk seated in the internal rabbet and closing the container.
'7. A container comprising a base ring having an external rabbet with a comically inclined side wall, and an internal rabbet, a terete container body seated in the external rabbet and coinciding with the taper of the wall, and a disk seated
