Description
July 24, 1934.
H. M. CUMBLER SUSPENDERS Filed May 25, 1933 Patented July 24, 1934 Uir SUSPENDERS 1 Claim.
This invention relates to suspenders, and it is an object of the invention to provide an article such as this constructed and assembled in a mannor to permit the rapid loosening of the button 5 loops from the back and shoulder straps so that the trousers may be lowered or removed without the necessity of removing the coat 01' vest.
It is also an object of the invention to provide suspenders constructed in a manner whereby a 10 plurality of sets of trouser engaging members or tabs may be employed in connection with the straps of a single suspender so that trousers may be readily and conveniently changed without necessitating the removal of any of the body garments.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved suspenders whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth. I The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 is a view in plan of suspenders constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention;
Figure 2 is an enlarged fragmentary view in elevation of the front portion of the suspenders 135 as herein embodied;
Figure 3 is a view in side elevation of the structure as illustrated in Figure 2;
Figure 4 is a view in rear elevation of the structure as illustrated in Figure 2.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawing, my improved suspenders comprise the shoulder straps D of a conventional type and which are arranged in convergence as is well known toward the rear strap G and connected thereto. The 145 connection between the straps D and G is reinforced as is well known by a leather reinforcing patch F double stitched and preferably provided with a Canton flannel backing. The straps D have associated therewith a conventional type of metal clamps E whereby the desired adjustment of the straps D may be readily and conveniently accomplished.
Operatively engaged with the free extremities of the straps D and G is a buckle member A and as herein disclosed this buckle member comprises a hook 1 which, as is clearly illustrated in Figure 2 of the drawing, is normally projected through and positioned in advance of a loop 2 comprised in the structure of the buckle A. This loop 2 possesses a certain degree of inherent resiliency and is provided intermediate its ends with a hump 3 for coaction with the bill of the hook 1 so as to effectively provide against accidental disengagement from the hook l of the link member 4.
The link member 4, as herein disclosed, is substantially triangular in form and the apex portion thereof is adapted for engagement with the hook I while the base portion of the link member 4 has operatively engaged therewith a conventional cast-off B. The cast-oil B operatively engages and retains a trousers engaging member or tab C of a conventional style as may be preferred.
The link member 4 which is readily engageable or released from the hook I of the buckle A permits a ready application or separation of the castofis B with respect to the straps D and G whereby trousers may be readily and easily applied or removed without the necessity of interfering in any way with the body garments such as the coat and vest whereby convenience in using suspenders is materially increased.
With the use of my improved suspenders it is possible to provide a plurality of sets of members or tabs C in connection with only a single assembly of straps or suspender harness thus enabling a change of trousers without removal of the body garments, it being understood that it is only required that each pair of trousers have properly engaged therewith a set of members or tabs C.
The link member 4 also provides for flexibility at the connection between the members or tabs C with the buckle A thereby materially facilitating comfort in wearing and by having such link member 4 of metal or other substantially rigid material the desired engagement or disengagement of the link member 4 with respect to the buckle A can be accomplished with convenience and facility.
It is to be noted that the rear buckle A is directly engaged with a conventional rear leather tab back I-I.
From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that suspenders constructed in accordance with my invention are particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which they may be assembled and operated, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.
I claim:-
A pair of suspenders including in combination front and back straps, buckles carried by the free extremities of said straps, each of said buckles including a hook member and a loop, the hook
