2 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in display stands, and more particularly to the stepped display type.
An object of the invention is to provide a stepped display stand which is attractive in appearance as well as economical to produce.
Another object is to provide a display stand of this type of sturdy structure, and of such nature as to be very easily assembled.
These and other objects are attained by the novel construction, arrangements and combination of parts hereinafter set forth, as well as described in the accompanying drawing constituting a material part of this disclosure, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective View of the stand in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a perspective View of the same with some of the parts thereof displaced and other parts removed to disclose the internal construction of the same.
Figure 3 is a rear View of the device shown in Fig. 1.
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on line 4-4 of Figure 3.
Figure 5 is a development of the cover portion and its associated parts.
Figure 6 is a View of the locking member.
Figure 7 is a developed View of the base portion of the device.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 10 indicates a base member having side walls l1 and 12, and a rear wall 13. The walls are integrally formed from the blank 15 (Fig. 7) by folding on the score lines 16 of the blank. The side wall 11 is formed with three steps constituting the boundary of the edge whereas the 3 steps of the side 12 is formed by the 2 stepped slit 17 and the score line 18 between the second and third step. A brace iiap 19 is thus formed integral with the side 12, which is adapted, when the blank is bent, to span between the two sides, at the forward edge of the third step. A brace member 20 is adapted to span between the sides l1 and 12 at the forward edge of the second step. The brace 20 is provided with flange flap 2l to facilitate the securing of the brace to the sides as by rivets.
The free end of the brace flap 19 is provided with a ilange nap 22 for riveting it to the side 11.
A top or cover member 25 is formed into a series of risers and lands 26 and 27 respectively, by the scores 28. The iirst of these risers is riveted to anges 11a and 12a extending from the forward end of the nrst step, thereby providing a rm brace for the rst step. These risers and lands are adapted to fit the steps in the side walls. A ap 29, co-eXtensive with the third land is undercut as at 30, for the purpose to be described later. Flaps 31, defined by scores 32, are integral with the third land, and are adapted to extend downward and adjacent to the rear wall 13. Extending from the flaps 31 are tongues 33 adapted to be inserted in slits 34 in the rear wall as shown in Fig. 4.
Tongues 35 are secured, as by rivets, to the second and third lands 26, and are adapted to be inserted in slits 36 in the brace members 19 and 20. The tongues 33 and 35 co-operating in a simple manner with the slits 34 and 36 for the purpose of easy assembly of the cover to the base member. If the lands were always loaded it would be obvious that these tongues and slits would serve no essential purpose, but when the lands have no merchandise thereon, such slight friction engagement as provided by the tongues and slits is sufficient to hold the cover onto the base.
The important point being to provide simple means of assembly which are not visible, and consequently, do not mar the neat outer appearance of the stand.
An advertising flap 40 is provided at the rear of the stand, and is adapted to extend above the third land. This flap is provided with tongues 41 and 42, adapted to t into the slits 34 in the rear Wall 13. The space between these tongues is adapted to t the space between the undercuts 30. The said space is less than the length of the flap 29 which provides a shoulder 43 to retain the advertising flap in a vertical position.
Although the foregoing is descriptive of the preferred embodiment of the invention, it will be apparent that minor changes may be made in its construction, without departing from the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new and desired to secure by Letters Patent, is:-
1. A display stand of stepped formation, having stepped sides formed integral with a back portion, a one piece member providing lands between the upper edges of the side members and risers between the front edges of the sides, a brace adapted to span the sides formed integral with one of the sides, slits in said brace, tongues on said risers adapted to co-operate with said slits for holding said member onto said sides.
2. A display stand of stepped formation, having stepped sides formed integral with a back portion, a one piece member providing lands between the upper edges of the side members and risers between the front edges of the sides, a brace adapted to span the sides formed integral with one of the sides, slits in said brace, tongues on said risers adapted to co-operate with said slits for holding said member onto said sides, slits in said back portion, tongues integral with the tcp land adapted to co-operate with said slits for holding the top land to said sides and back.
