My invention relates to stands for stoves or the like.
It has among its objects to provide an improved stand, and more particularly an improved stand adapted to use in connection with stoves or the like. A further object of my invention is to provide such an improved stand structure wherein the body of the stand is simply and economically made and supported at its corners on improved corner housing supports connected with the body in an improved manner and adapted to produce therewith a stand construction of very attractive appearance. A still further object of my invention is to provide an improved corner housing or leg structure for such a stand of an improved, simplified and inexpensive construction, and adapted to be readily connected to the stand body in such manner as to enclose the corners thereof, and which further, in certain of its forms, is adapted to use as a connecting element between a plurality of stand bodies, as, for example, when it is desired to connect a plurality of the same together to produce a larger stand. These and other objects and advantages ofmy improved construction will, however, hereinafter more fully appear.
In the accompanying drawings I have shown for purposes of illustration two embodiments which my invention may assume in practice.

Considering first the illustrative construction shown in Figures 1 to '7, it will be noted that therein I have shown my invention applied to use as a stand or casing for an electric stove, and comprising a rectangular hollow casing or body 1 of sheet metal carrying a plurality of reflector bowls 2 which are seated in spaced apertures 3 in its top and adapted to house suitable heating elements (not shown) controlled by a suitable switch 3', While the casing l is of an improved construction hereinafter described and supported at its four corners on improved pillar like corner housings 4 forming legs, hereinafter 0 described.
Referring to the casing 1, it will be noted that the same is herein formed of a single sheet of sheet metal. More particularly, this casing herein has a flat top 5, in which the apertures 3 are 5 disposed in spaced relation, and which is also integrally united at its four edges with downwardly bent vertical front, back and opposite end portions 6, '7, 8, and 9, respectively. Hereit will also be noted that each corner of the same is so formed as to provide a vertical slit as shown at 10 in Figure 5, and preferably in such manner as to cause one edge to extend beyond and form a stop for the other as shown at 10' in Figures 2 and 5. Also, the top 5, which pro- 5 vides a cover for each corner, is provided in each corner with an aperture 11. As shown, the front 6 and back '7, aswell as the ends 8 and 9, of which only one is shown in detail, are also provided with inturned right angle flanges 12 on their bottoms'forming supports for a bottom member 13. As shown, adjacent each corner each flange 12 is also provided with a cut away portion 14 in such manner as to leave a space 15 between the cut away portions and thus provide two vertical walls of the casing adjacent each corner. Moreover, these vertical adjoining walls are herein also provided witha pair of short vertical notches 16 in their bottoms adjacent the ends of the cut away portions, all in such man :9 passes through the slot 21.

Attention is also directed to the fact that the bottom member 13 which rests upon the flanges 12 is provided with a cut away corner 17 adjacent and inside each corner to provide further clearance for the leg 4. Herein, the bottom 13 is further suitably attached as by screws, bolts or rivets 18 to the flanges 12, and also provided with a series of holes 19 adapted to permit the free passage of an adequate air supply upward through the refiector bowls 2 and around the same and the heating units therein.
Referring more particularly to the corner housings or leg members 4 which are at the four corners of the casing, it will be noted that each of the same is of hollow tubular form, herein substantially cylindrical, and that herein, although the same may be varied in height if desired, each extends from substantially flush with the top 5 substantially below the bottom 13 in such manner as to space the latter above the support or table on which the members 4 rest. More particularly considering the construction of these leg members, it will be noted that each of the same is herein provided with slots 21 and 22 extending from the top thereof down to a point opposite the bottom 13 of the casing body. Herein, it will also be noted that these slots 21 and 22 are disposed at right angles to one another and spaced apart by slightly more than a quarter of the circumference of the member 4, i. e. so that members extended through the slots at right angles to one another would intersect, not in the axis of the member 4 but at one side thereof and in such manner as to enclose the axis. Attention is also directed to the fact that the upper end of the portion 23 between the slots 21 and 22 is cut off horizontally as shown at 24 in such manner as to make this portion slightly shorter than the remaining portion 25 of the top, while the bottom 26 is out off uniformly. It will here also be observed that each of these members 4 is slipped over the adjacent bottom vertical portions, formed by cutting away the flanges 12 at the corners, in such manner that the member 4 encloses the slit 10, the back or front portion 7 or 6, as the case may be, passing through the slot 22, While the end portion 8 or Moreover, it will be noted that the bottoms of the slots 21 and 22 are received in the notches 16 in the bottoms of the adjacent casing portions which are more remote from the corner slit, in such manner as effectually to interlock the parts, while the portion of the top 5 forming the corner cover and surrounding the aperture 11 in the corner is supported on the cut off portion 24. Here it will also be observed that a cap member 2'7 is provided, here in the form of a disc having a somewhat rounded or conical upper surface and a peripheral groove 28 just inside its under edge and adapted to receive the portion 25. Also this member 2'? herein is suitably connected, preferably removably as by threading 29, to an axial rod 30 which extends down through the aperture 11 and inside the slit 10 from one end of the member 4 to the other. Here it will also be observed that a holding means 31, herein in the form of a foot member having an annular shoulder 32 thereon receiving the lower end 26 of the member 4, is provided with an aperture 33 receiving the threaded end 34 of the rod 30, while a nut 35 on the threaded end of the rod also serves to connect all of the parts securely together.

It will further be observed that the members 4 with their associate caps or covers 27 serve to enclose the ccrners of the casing at the same time that they support the same. These members 4 are also interlocked to the casing members and connected to their cap and foot members in such manner as to produce not only a rugged construction, but one which is furthermore readily adapted to be kept clean, there being a minimum of exposed edges or the like calculated to catch dirt and interfere with cleaning. It will also be observed that not only is the casing and leg construction such as to be very readily and cheaply provided, but the same is of such a construction as to enable the parts to be readily and quickly connected or separated whenever desired. Moreover, all of the connecting means are enclosed in such manner as to produce a construction of an exceedingly simple and attractive appearance.
In Figures 8 to 13, I have illustrated a modification of my improved construction, wherein the legs are adapted to form connecting means between a plurality of casings 1 and thus enable a plurality of casing units to be connected together to form a larger unit. In this construction, it will be observed that the casings are of identically the same construction previously described so that further description of the same is unnecessary. Moreover, in this construction, the connecting legs 40 are of substantially the same general construction as the legs 4 heretofore described, though modified somewhat and provided with a modified rod and cap and foot members as will hereinafter appear. More particularly, it will be noted that each of these members 40 instead of being provided with a pair of slots as heretofore described, is provided with three slots, two of which 41 and 42 are directly opposite each other and may be considered duplicates of the slot 23, while a third wider slot. 43, is at right angles to these slots 41 and 42 and midway between the same so that it may co-operate with both and correspond to the slot 21. Also, the upper end of each member 40 is provided with a cut off portion 44, corresponding to the out 01f portion 24. Thus it will be observed that when the two casing members are brought together as shown in Figure 12, it is possible for the back or front of one casing member to be slipped through the slot 42 and'the corresponding portion of the other casing member to be slipped through the 1 slot 41, while the adjacent ends 8 and 9 of. the casing members are both slipped down through the slot 43- in such manner as to interlock the parts at the adjacent corners in a general manner similar to that heretofore described, al-
though in this construction, due to the location of the parts it will be noted that the notches 16 nearer the corner slit are then utilized. Here it will also be noted that a cap 45 is provided on the member 40 having a groove 46 adapted to Cir be received in one of the adjacent apertures 11, and also a rod 49 threaded at 50 to the cap and laterally spaced from the projection 48 on the opposite side of the axis thereof and adapted to be received in the other aperture 11. Thus it will be observed that the projection 48 is on one side of the end walls 8 and 9, while the rod 49 is on the opposite side of the latter walls and in the same general position relative to the adjacent walls of the member 1 in which it is carried as previously described, so that the two casings 1 are thus additionally held together by the cap 45. As in the previous construction; it will also be observed that a foot member 51, corresponding to the member 31, is provided, but in this construction it will be observed that this member 51 is also provided with an elongated slot 52 adapted to permit the passage of the threaded end 53 on the rod 49 while still enabling the latter to clamp the parts effectually together upon adjustment of the nut 54.
Obviously such a construction will enable a series of casings 1 comprising any suitable number or" the same, to be connected together in the form of a single unit of any desired size, while the connecting means will not only be constructed essentially similarly to the corner legs previously described, but further will match these corner legs in appearance and thus produce an exceedingly attractive construction.
While I have in this application specifically described two embodiments which my invention may assume in practice, it will be understood that these forms of the same are shown for purposes of illustration, and that the invention may be modified and embodied in various other forms without departing from its spirit or the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:- I
1. In a stand, a casing having a top and depending skirt provided with a vertical slit corner, a corner housing having vertical slits receiving and interlocking with the walls of the corner on opposite sides of the slit therein, means for looking said walls in said slits, and vertically disposed means disposed longitudinally of said housing and including a separable housing cover overlying said corner for rigidly clamping said casing and housing together.
2. In a stand, a casing having a corner, and corner housing means receiving and covering said corner and comprising separable corner receiving and covering elements clamping said corner therebetween.

In a stand, a casing having a corner comprising converging corner walls extending substantially to the line of intersection thereof, a corner housing member housing said corner and having its walls interlocked with the walls of the latter, and separable connections for clamping the parts together including a housing member cover and connecting means therefor having a member extending longitudinally of said housing member.

8. In av stand, a casing having a covered corner comprising converging corner Walls, and a corner housing housing said corner and having slits therein receiving the corner walls adjacent the corner and a cut away portion in its top receiving the cover of said corner.

In a stand, a casing having a vertically slit corner comprising converging walls with a slit therebetween, a corner housing having vertical slits receiving and interlocking with the converg ing walls of the corner on opposite sides of the slit therein, and means for rigidly connecting the parts together comprising cover and foot members on said housing and a longitudinal connection for said members disposed within. said housing. a

In a stand, a casing having a vertically slit corner, a corner housing having vertical slits receiving and interlocking with the side walls of the corner on opposite sides of the slit therein, and means for rigidly connecting the parts together, comprising a cover for said housing and clamping means having a clamping member disposed within the slit portion of said corner.

In a stand, a casing having a covered vertically slit corner portion having an aperture in its cover, a leg member on said portion longitudinally slit to receive and enclose said portion and having a cut away portion underlying said cover, a cap member seated on the top of said leg member and overlying the cover of said corner, and connecting means for said cap member extending through said aperture.

In a stand, a casing having covered slit corner portions and integral depending side and end portions having flanges on their lower ends cut away adjacent said corner portions, leg members longitudinally slit to receive and enclose said corner portions and having removable covers and enclosed connecting means therefor, and a bottom member supported on said flange po-rtions and also provided with cut away portions adjacent said corners. 13. In a stand, a plurality of casing members having adjacent corner portions, and connecting means therebetween having a longitudinally slit tubular housing member enclosing and connecting the adjacent corners thereof.

In a stand, a plurality of casing members having adjacent corner portions, connecting means therebetween having a longitudinally slit tubular housing member enclosing and connecting the adjacent corners thereof, and clamping means including a cover fitting said housing member and a clamping connection for said cover extending within said member.

In a stand, a plurality of casing members having adjacent corner portions and notches in the lower edges of the walls of each corner, and connecting means therebetween having a longitudinally slit tubular housing member enclosing and connecting the adjacent corners and having said walls disposed in the slits therein and the ends of said slits dispose in said notches.

In a stand, a plurality of casing members having adjacent corner portions, and. connecting means therebetween having a longitudinally slit tubular housing member enclosing and connecting adjacent corners thereof, said housing member having oppositely located vertical slots therein each receiving one wall of one casing and an intermediate vertical slot receiving one wall of each casing.

In a stand, a plurality of casing members each having corner portions, and connecting means therebetween having a longitudinally slit tubular housing member enclosing and connecting adjacent corners thereof, said housing member having oppositely located vertical slots therein each receiving one wall of one casing and an intermediate vertical slot receiving one wall of each casing, and also having a cut away portion in its top underlying both corner portions.
18. In a stand, a plurality of casing members each having a covered corner portion having an aperture therein, a longitudinally slit tubular housing member enclosing and. connecting adjacent corners of said casing members, and a cap member for said housing member having connecting means in the apertures of said adjacent corners.
19. In a stand, a casing having corner portions and depending side and end portions presenting vertical walls adjacent each corner portion and on opposite "sides of each corner, an a bottom member carried by said walls and having cut away portions adjacent each corner.

A corner housing member for stands or the like comprising a tubular member having a plurality of verticalslots therein disposed at right angles to one another, and a third slot opposite one of said slots, said tubular member having a cut away portion in its top extending between said opposite slots.
21. A corner housing connection for stands or the like comprising a vertically slotted hollow member having elongated spaced vertical slots thereon extending to the top thereof and adapted to receive and house a corner of a stand with the walls of the latter interlocked with the vertical slots therein, a cap on one end of said hollow member, connecting means for said cap disposed in said hollow member, and co -operating holding means for said connecting means disposed below said cap. v
22. A rectangular casing hav'ng a top, sides, and end portions, with vertically disposed walls beneath its corners, corner housing members enclosing each of said corners extending to the top of the latter and having slits therein receiving and interlocking with said vertical walls and the portions between the slits enclosed within said vertical walls, cover members covering the upper ends of said housing "members, and means for connecting said cover members in position.
