This invention relates to fastening and adjusting attachments for overalls or similar garments of the bib or suspenders type; my principal object being to provide a unitary and practically one-piece article having an element for engagement with a button and also an element for adjustable clamping or holding engagement with a strap. These elements, unlike those of the devices already on the market, are arranged so that the adjustment of the strap may be efiected at any time without having to disengage the fastening element from the button. Also, the article is very compact and thin and is of such a nature that when applied to the strap does not make a relatively thick bulge with the strap goods.

A further object of the invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive device, and yet one Which will be exceedingly effective for the 29 purpose for which it is designed.

These objects I accomplish by means of such structure and relative arrangement of parts as will fully appear by a perusal of the following specification and claim.

Fig. 1 is a fanciful outline of the upper portion of a man wearing a pair of overalls showing the same equipped with my improved buckle and fastening device.

Referring now more particularly to the characters of reference on the drawings, the buckle portion of the article comprises arectangular and relatively wide frame 1 having a crossbar 2 extending between the ends of the frame centrally between the top and bottom of the same. A row of short pins or prongs 3 project from one face of the crossbar away from the plane of the frame. From the bottom of the frame transversely spaced extensions 4 depend and lie in a common plane with the frame.

At their lower ends these extensions are provided with eyes 5 which are also disposed in the plane of the frame 1. These eyes cooperate with other eyes 6 formed on the adjacent ends of a loop 7. This loopis adapted to engage a button 8 of the overalls 9. For

cheapness and convenience of manufacture, the frame 1 and extension 4 are integrally formed from a single piece of stiff Wire suitably bent to shape as shown. In any event,

whether formed integrally or of initially separated parts, these extensions are rigid With the frame.

To apply the buckle to a strap 10 of the overalls, the said buckle is disposed so that the prongs 3 project outwardly and the end of the strap is threaded or passed over the cross-bar and prongs from under the top bar of the frame and then under the lower bar of the frame as shown in Fig. 2. The portion of the strap which depends from the buckle is therefore behind thesame and does not interfere with the engagement of the button with the loop nor does it tend to flap or get in the way when the wearer bends over or wishes to unfasten the button. To prevent too ready disengagement of thebutton. the extensions 4 and loop 7 are arranged so that the button can only pass intermediate 'the ends ofthe extensions l w hich are bowed in the desired zone sufficient to practically clear the button.

Since the buckle and loop, the supporting extensions, are all thin and flat and lie in a common plane, and since only a single thickness of the strap needs to be engaged with the buckle. an undue thickness and a consequent annoying bulge of parts in the zone of the device is avoided, as clearly indicated in Fig. 2. The button engaging loop being swivelly connected to the buckle element, the parts may readily move relative to each other without any unnatural strains being placed on the strap or button. even though the extensions 4 are rigid with the buckle as stated.

From the foregoing description it will be readily seen that I have produced such a device as substantially fulfills the objects of the invention as set forth herein.

While this specification sets forth in detail the present and preferred construction of the device. still in practice, such deviations from such detail may be resorted to as do not form a departure fromthe spirit of the invention, as defined by the appended claim.

Having thus described my invention what W9 I claim as new and useful and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

A combination buckle and fastener for overalls comprising a rectangular frame hav ing transversely spaced extensions from one side thereof, a cross bar midway between the sides of the frame, the back of the frame, extensions and cross bar all lying in a common fiat plane, projecting short prongs on the front edge of the cross bar and a button loop flexibly connected with the free ends of the extensions.
