Description

P.KBURNS HARNESS PADS.
No.182,162. Patented. sept, 12, 197e.
/m QQ@ l H I ZW/Zn N'FETERS, PMOTULITHOGRAPMER, WASHINGTON. D C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PETER BURNS, 0F SYRAGUSE, NEW YORK.
IMPRQVEMENT IN HARNESS-PADS.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 182, 162, dated September 12, 1876; application led August 22, 1876.
To all whom "it may concern Be it known that I, PETER BUENs, of Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga and State of New York, have invented a certain Improvement in Harness-Pads, of which the following is a specitication:
My invention consists'in the application of a detachablemetallic loop to the projecting flexible ends of the pad in such a manner that the backband of the pad may pass through said loop for the purpose of being steadied V thereby without having its flexibility and that of the ends of the pad impaired.
In the annexed drawing, Figure 1 is a section of so much of a harness-pad as it is necessary to illustrate in order to show the manner ot' applying my invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the button -loop detached. Fig. 3 is a perspective View of a loop and a put, which may be used in lieu ofthe buttonoop.
The same letters of reference are used in all the figures in the designa-tion of identical parts.
TheloopA(shown in Figs. 1 and 2) is formed with a T-headed shank, the head or button a, of which stands parallel to the loop. It is applied by inserting it in a longitudinal slit, b,
in the end of the leather base B of the pad, which projects beyond the pad-tree C for the sake of iiexibility. 1
When applied the loop stands across the flexible end of the pad, so that the backband D may pass through it, as shown in Fig. 1.
The loop may be provided with a screwthreaded shank, al, as shown in Fig. 3, in lieu of the T-headed shank, in which case a nut, ft2, is secured upon the under or inner side of the leather base B of the pad, to receive and engage said screw-threaded shank of the loop, a suitable holebeing formed in the leather base B, opposite to the nut, to admit the screwthreaded shank thereto.
What I claim as my invention, and' desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the flexible end of a harness-pad and the metallic loop connected therewith, provided with a fastening, a or al, substantially as specilied.
In testimony whereof- I have signed my name to the foregoing speciiication in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
PETER BURNS.
