The recess portion 21pmvides a suitable seat for the spherical body in view of the fact that the opposite side portions of the fixed jaw member 10 are spacedly mounted with respect to each other and provide a suitable seat whereby a spherical body may removably rest thereupon. WVhile I have shown a seat 21 as being formed integrally with the fixed jaw member 10, I of course do not wish to be limited to a seat of the character shown, as any other suitable seat may be provided.

The swinging jaw member 12 is adapted to swing rearwardly, and the link 13 is adapted to likewise swing rear'wardly and downwardly so as to position the swinging jaw member between the opposite side portions of the fixed jaw member 10.

A pad or inking member 22 is removably' positioned on the fixed jaw member 10, being removably mounted between the opposite side portions thereof. The pad member 22 comprises an inking retaining member 23 which is removably positioned upon a flexible or resilient ink holding member 24. The resilient ink holding member 24 is provided at the forward end thereof with an upstanding arcuately inclined portion 25 which registers with the arcuate portion 16 of the swinging jaw member.

- The ink holding member 2a is also adapted to properly ink the type bars carried by the type supporting member 17. The inner end portion of the ink pad supporting mem' ber 24 is provided with a reverted portion 26 which is adapted toengage the edge portion 27 of the fixed jaw member therebetween. The resilient member 24 is provided with a plurality of resilient arms or clamping members 28 for removably holding the inking member 23 thereon, and the resilient member 24: may also be provided with a pair of upstanding arms or lug members 29 spaced inwardly from the outer end portion thereof and preferably upstanding from the arcuate portion 25.

The inking member 23 comprises an elongated tubular member 30 of substantially flexible construction being preferably constructed in the form of a rubber tube or the like having the opposite end portions thereof sealed or plugged with removable stoppers, and the tubular member 30 is provided with a plurality of spaced apertures 31 spacedinwardly from the outer end portion thereof, the apertures 31 being positioned beneath the pad member 22 sothat the ink within the tubular member 30 will exude into the pad 22, the ink being forced out of the apertures by compressing the tube 30. The apertures 31 may be formed by cutting lateral slits in the-tube 30 so as to facilitate shipment of the tubes in dry form, the slits being opened when the tube is bent over the arcuate portion 25.

The inking pad 22 is adapted to be held in fixed position by the clamping arms 28 which not only hold the tubular member 30 in desired position, but also hold the inking member 22 against movement thereon.

WVhen the swinging jaw member 12 is moved inwardly toward the fixed jaw member 10 and is positioned between the side portions of the jaw member 10, it may be pressed downwardly upon the inking pad 22 and the movement of the movable jaw member 12 is restricted by a pair of spaced stop members 32 which are spacedly positioned upon the opposite side portions of the movable jaw member 12, the stop members 32 being adapted to engage the open edges of the fixed jaw member 10.

If desired, the movable jaw member 12 may also be provided with a tape or indicia member 33 on the outer edge portion there of, the indicia on the tape being similar to the indicia in the arcuate supporting member 17 so that when the aws are mounted 1n closed position the name of the owner or the like may be readily discernible. I

In the operation of this device, the jaw members 10 and 12'are normally positioned in substantially parallel relation to each other and are held in spaced relation by the hinged link member 13. The spherical or annular member 20 may be mounted on the seat 21 of the fixed jaw member 10 whereupon the movable jaw member 12 may be swung inwardly so that the type bars 19 will engage about the periphery of the spherical or annular member20. The aw members 10 and 12 may then be forced toward each other thereby firmly pressing the indicia 19 on the periphery of thespherical member 20 and printing thereon any desired indicia. Then the spherical member 20 is removed from the seat 21, the movable jaw member 12 may be swung inwardly toward the fixed jaw member and positioned between the upstanding side portions thereof, the type bars 19 being normally positioned upon the inking pad 22 so that when the movable aw member 12 is swung outwardly for operation, the type bars '19 will be properly inked.

, The inner end portion of the fixed member 10 is preferably bent inwardly as at 3a so that when the movable jaw member 12 is positioned therebetween, the movable jaw member will be frictionally held against movement.

A marker of the character described comprising a pair of elongated substantially U-shaped jaw members, link means for pivotally securing said aw members to each other, said jaw members having arcuately inclined recesses spaced inwardly from the outer end portions thereof whereby to removably secure a spherical body therebetween, and marking means carried by one of said jaw members and adapted to be positioned in said recesses whereby to engage the spherical body positioned between said body members.

3. A marker of the character described comprising a pair of jaw members, link means for pivotally securing said aw members to each other, said jaw members having arcuate recessed portions adjacent the outer end portions thereof whereby to removably engage an annular body between said jaw members, an indicia supporting member carried by one of said jaw members and positioned in said recess of said jaw member, and an inking pad carried by the opposite jaw member.

4. A marker of the character described comprising a straight fixed jaw member, a movable aw member, link means for pivotally securing said movable jaw member on said fixed jaw member, indicia supporting means carried by said movable jaw member, and indicia inking means carried by said fixed jaw member.

A marker of the character described comprising a fixed jaw member, a movable jaw member, means for swingingly securing said movable jaw member to said fixed jaw member, a spherical body seat carried by said fixed jaw member adjacent the outer end portion thereof, type supporting means carried by said movable jaw member, and inking means removably carried by said fixed jaw member, said inking means comprising a resilient member, a flexible apertured reservoir, means for removably securing said reservoir to said resilient means, and an inking pad carried by said reservoir, the ink exuding from said apertures being adapted to moisten said pad.

A marker of the character described comprising a fixed jaw member, a movable jaw member, a link bar swingingly carried by said fixed jaw member, said link bar also engaging said movable jaw member, means for limiting the swinging movement of said link bar on said fixed jaw member, type supporting means carried by said movable jaw member, inking means carried by said fixe'd jaw member and adapted to engage the type in said type supporting means when the movable jaw has been swung inwardly of said fixed jaw, and stop means carried by said movable jaw and adapted to engage said fixed jaw whereby to limit the movement thereof.

7. A marker of the character described comprising a substantially U-shaped fixed jaw member, a substantially U-shaped movable jaw member, link means for swingingly and spacedly securing said movable jaw member to said fixed jaw member, stop means mounted on said fixed jaw member and engaging said securing means whereby to limit the movement thereof, a seat formed on said fixed jaw member whereby to removably hold a spherical body, an arcuately inclined type supporting member mounted on said movable jaw member and adapted to engage the periphery of a spherical body mounted on said seat, inking means carried by said fixed jaw member, said inking means being positioned between the opposite side portions of said j aw member, and means for yieldably holding said movable jaw member between the opposite side portions of said fixed jaw member.

8. A marker of the character described comprising a fixed jaw member, a movable jaw member, link means swingingly mounted in said fixed jaw member and connecting said movable jaw member, stop means mounted in said fixed jaw member and adapted to limit the swinging movement of said link, a plurality of tapering type bars, type supporting means carried by said movable jaw member, inking means removably mounted in said fixed jaw member and adapted to engage said type bars when the movable jaw has been swung into closed position, and resilient means carried by said fixed jaw member for yieldably holding said movable jaw member in closed position.
