The invention relates to a typewriter brush.

An object of the invention is the production of a simple and efiicient brush which the operator of the typewriter can use in thoroughly brushing the machine in all parts thereof.

Another object of the invention is the construction of a brush that can be used for exposed parts or surfaces of a typewriter and as well for cleaning inside of the machine where an ordinary brush could not successfully operate.

A still further object of the invention is the improvement of the jaw-structure of a brush more particularly adapted for use in cleaning a typewriter.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, my invention comprises certain novel constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

1 Referring to the drawing by numerals, 1 designates a long handle. In constructing my brush, I employ two jaws 2 and 3. Each jaw comprises a comparatively long flat body 4. The body 4 has inwardly extending side flanges 5, and inwardly extending teeth 6 are formed on its outer end. In each body is a large aperture 7 and a small aperture 8. The body 4 of jaw 2 is provided with a pressed-in longitudinally extending lug 9 for engaging the radial grooves 10 formed in handle 1 for holding the brush head 11 and bristles 12 in an adjusted position. When the parts are assembled, a cylinder-like hub 13 extends through the two jaws (Fig. 3) and the handle with its ends 14 bent at right angles, to hold the parts assembled. The "5 hub 13 is light, strong and durable; it produces an admirable axis upon which the jaws may be rotated for adjusting the device to work atdifferent angles on different parts of the typewriter. A rivet 15 extends through the jaws, head 11 and bristles (Fig. 3), assisting in securing the parts together. The teeth 6 of the jaws bite upon the bristles 12 which, toegether with flanges 5, keep the head of the brush in proper position, and 13 prevent turning of said head within the jaws.

I have found from actual experience with a brush constructed in accordance with this invention, that very satisfactory results are obtained, since the fiat handle 1 is longn enough to allow the bristles or brush to reach all parts of the machine, and when the brush head is turned at an angle on the handle to enable the operator to better clean certain parts of the typewriter, this adjusted'75 position is maintained against accidental displacement, by reason of the lug 9 and grooves 10 acting as locking means to hold the brush in its adjusted position.

While I have described the preferred emso bodiment of my invention and illustrated the same in the accompanying drawing, certain minor changes or alterations may appear to one skilled in the art to which this invention relates during the extensive manufacture of the same, and'I, therefore, reserve the'right to make such changes or alterations as shall fairly fall within the scope of the appended claim.

"What I claim is:

As a new article of manufacture, a typewriter brush, comprising a long flat handle, a pair of long flat jaws engaging opposite sides of said handle near one end, each jaw provided with a large and a small aperture, '95 each jaw provided with inwardly extending side flanges and with inwardly extending teeth on its outer end, a cylinder-like hub in the large apertures of said'jaw and extend ing through said handle, said hub having its 100 ends bent at right angles, a head between said jaws, a rivet in said small apertures and extending through said head, said side flanges engaging edges of said head, and said head 5 provided with bristles extending between and engaged by said teeth on said jaws, substantially as shown and described.
