i This invention relates to a napkin dispenser, and'more particularly to a dispenser of the type having two opposite dispensing Openings.
It is an object of this invention to provide a na kin dispenser` having pivoted closure Y mem rs at its ends so that the dispenser may be readily refilled.
It is a particular object of this invention- 1 to provide a novel form of dispenser having closure members pivoted to the base thereof and latched to the to thereof, so that the closure members may swung downwardly to facilitate the reiillin of the dispenser.
It is another object o this invention to provide a napkin dispenser which may be opened for refilling without it being necessary to remove it from the surface u onwhich it rests.
It is a further object o this invention to provide a napkin dispenser in which there is a air of avity actuated followers.
T ese an other objects of my invention will be apparent from the following description and appended claims.
My invention (in a preferred form) is described in the following specication and in the drawing which form a part thereof.
On the drawing: Figure 1 is an end elevational view of a 39 napkin dispenser embodying my invention.
igure 2 is 'an enlarged sectional view taken on the line II--II of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the Vline III-III of Figure 3. l As shown on the drawing; i
My dispenser comprises a container having a base 1, side walls 2, and top 3. .The contaner is preferabl formed of seamless metal.
A Suitable pads or uiers la are attached tov 4 the base 1 for supporting the container. A
. liner 4 is provided adjacent the base, and is spaced therefrom to receive the flanges 5 of the hinges 6.
Y The container is provided with closure members 7 at its ends having inturned flanges 8 which lit over the top 340i the container.
as by welding to the lower ends of e closure members. Y Y
The hinge 6 is of a common type of construction. The flanges 5 and 9 are rolled at their adjacent ends to form aligned beads 10 for the reception of pintles 11.
Each closure member 7 is provided with a window or opening 12. The metal adjacent the opening is rolled to form a protective bead 13: An angle member 14 is welded or otherwise suitably secured to the to of the end member. One flange of the ang e member 14: extends inwardly and is provided with an opening 14a for the reception of a latch member. v
A U- shaped bracket 15 is rigidly secured to the inside of the top 3, centrally thereof. A pin 16 isr secured to the sides ofthe bracket. 65 A latch member 17 is pivotally mounted on the pin. The latch 17 extends toward the end member and is rovided with a de nding portion 18 whic fits into the opening 14a to thus hold the end member 7 against the container. Y A coil spring 19 is mounted on the pin 16 to urge the latch 17 into engagement with the opening 14a in angle member 14.
Whi e I have described the construction of but one end, it will be understood that the other end and latch is constructed in exactly the same manner.
The follower 23, located on one side ofthe stops 28, is attached to the pin 21 on the other side of the stop. Similarly the follower 24 and pinY 22 lie on opposite sides of the stopsY 29. Consequently, the followers will always be in an inclined position. As each napkin is removed, the force of gravity acting on the follower will urge it forwardly and downwardly and thereby urge the remaining napkins toward the end of the container.
The particular type of napkin used does not form a part of my present invention. A napkin having two transverse folds so as to leave a body `portion and tab portion on either side thereof is preferable. Such a napkin presents a tab portion, such as indicated at 30, which may be easily grasped through the window provided in my improved dispenser.
It will be seen that I have provided a strong durable dispenser which may be readily opened for inserting napkins therein, and which is a useful and compact article.
While I have described a preferred embodiment of my invention, I do not wish to be limited thereto as I am aware that many changes may be made in the details of construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention.
I claim as my invention:
1. A napkin dispenser comprising, a container, removable closure members at the ends of the container, stop members attached to the walls of the container, said stop memup from the bottom of said container,r pins mounted in vsaid lugs, (gravity actuated followers mounted on sai pins, said followers inclining toward the ends of the container, and stop members attached to the side walls to prevent said follower from assuming a vertical position.
3. A napkin dispenser comprising, a container having windows in its ends, stop members extending fromthe side walls of said container centrally thereof, and gravity a'ctuated followers pivoted to the base of the container at either side of the stop members,
said followers inclining upwardly tothe opposite sides of the stop members to urge the napkins against the ,ends of the container.
4. A napkin dispenser comprising, a con-- tainer, closure members having windows therein pivoted to the respective ends of the base of the container, latch receiving members attached to the insides of said closure members adjacent the top thereof, latches pivoted to the top of the container and extending toward each closure member respectively, depending portions on said latches for engaging said latch receiving membei` l to thereby hold said closure members against the container angle members attached to thev side walls of said container, said angle members having flanges extending inwardly adjacent the top of the container for preventing the napkins from interferring with latches, stop members attached to the side walls of the container centrally thereof for dividin the container into two compartments, a fol ower pivoted to the base of the container in each compartment,l each follower inclining upwardly into the next compartment for urging the napkins against the adjacent closur member. 5. A napkin dispenser comprising a container having windows at its ends, stop members extending from the side walls-of said container centrally thereof, lugs struck up from the bottom of said container, pins mounted in said lugs, said pins being out of alignment and on either side of the stop members, members mounted on said pins and extendingiipwardly to the opposite side of said stop members and followers integral with said members and adapted to urge a plurali- -ty of napkins towards the adjacent end of the stop members extending from the side walls of said container centrally thereof and dividing the container into two compartments, followers in each compartment having integral arms extending downwardly into the opposite compartments and pivoted to the base member so that the followers are urged toward the ends of the container by gravlty.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed m name at New York, New York County, ew York.
