The present invention relates to improvements in bottle holders for babies, and has for an object to provide certain improvements over previous bottle holders particularly in that the improved device will more securely hold the bottle in the set position convenient for use by the baby, and without permitting the bottle holder and the bottle supported thereby to be easily shifted or moved out of such set position.

Another object of the invention is to provide an improved bottle holder for babies in which the bottle will be held firmly and securely both against lateral and longitudinal movement, while at the same time maintaining the bottle at a suitable inclination necessary to induce the free flow of the milk through the nipple.

A further object of the invention is to 0 provide an improved nursing bottle holder in which the holder is of sanitary construction, and of neat and sanitary appearance.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention will be more fully described hereinafter, and will be more particularly pointed out in the claim appended hereto.

Referring more particularly to the draw ing, the improved bottle holder is preferably composed of white rubber in order to be in appearance and in fact sanitary, although the holder may be conceivably made of other materials.

The bottle holder is advantageously made in one piece consisting of a wide extensive base 5 and a bottle holding cradle or member upon the base. The base is preferably wide at its two sides and, due to the length of the lee-a. Serial No. 612,116. a a

device, the base need not be of any greater material len th than the cradle or bottle support, except that a rear part 6 is preferably provided in order to take an eye or hole 7 to 7. take a hook or other suspending means when the device is not in use.

The sides of the base extend for quite a distance beyond the side of the bottle holder and preferably these side portions merge with the longitudinal aXis of the device through flaring end walls 8 and 9, which avoid any square or sharp corners, and which gives the device a better appearance without interfering with the large base surface provided. The face of the base member 5 is roughened or provided with intersecting lines 10 in order to take a firm purchase or hold upon the pillow or other support.

The bottle holder is composed of the lon-v gitudinal side walls 11 and 12, the rear end wall 13, and the converging front walls 14 and 15, which are arranged at both sides of the restricted mouth 16 through which the neck of the bottle 17 extends, whereby the nipple 18 of thebottle will lie clear and forwardly of the holder in position to be grasped by the babys month without interference of the holder.

The base wall 19 of the holder is inclined downwardly toward the mouth 16 from a high elevation adjacent the rear wall 13, which extends across between the two side walls 11 and 12, and completely closes the space at the back of the device, contacting throughout the entire transverse area at the bottom of the bottle 17. At the lower forward portion of the inclined base wall 19, a hump 20 is made in order to engage the breast portion of the bottle 17. This hump 2O cooperates with the front curved walls 14 and 15 to avoid the bottle 17 slidinglongitudinally out of the mouth 16 of the holder.

The rear wall 13 is provided with an undercut portion 21 for engaging the bottom of the bottle 17 to avoid the longitudinal tilting motion of the bottle upwardly out of the holder.

In the use of the device, the bottle 17 with milk or other liquid therein is placed in the holder as indicated in Figures 1 and 2, and 100 the combined bottle and holder is then placed upon the pillow or other support, the wide base taking an extensive purchase throughout the area of the base on the pillow or other sup ort, and effectively holding the bottle in t e position in which it is adjusted and set, the rough portion of the wide base preventing the holder from moving or creaping on the support.

10 The construction of the device with the wide base 5 and the weight, including the bottlc holder and the bottle 17, centered midway of the wide base of the device will resist any attempts made to overturn the same, such for instance, as might be accomplished by the casual movement of the babys hands. 7 g The rear wall 13 will provide an abutment or backing which will resist the movement of the babys mouth and head in its normal actions on the nipple 18, and thus will prevent the bottle from getting out of reach of the infant. The side walls .11 and 12 and the front curved walls 14 and 15 will prevent any lateral movement of the bottle such as would let its rear end to escape the end abutment 13. At the same time, the bottle will be held from sliding in upon the infant by the hump and the front curved walls 14 and 15.

E3 The device presents an extremely neat appearance, is sanitary, and retains the bottle in set position. 7 It is obvious that various changes and modifications may be made in the details of construction anddesign of the above specifically described embodiment of'this invention without departing from the spirit thereof, such changes and modifications being restricted only by the scope of the following claim.

4'0 Vhat is claimed is Y i A. bottle holder for babies comprising a receptacle for receiving. the bottle having a solid bottom wall curved at its sides, shallow side walls rising at oppoiste sides of the '45 curved portions of the bottom wall and extending upwardly at the sides only of the contained bottle for freely receiving such bottle,- said side walls converging at their forward ends, said bottom wall having a hump at its forward end to engage the breast of the bottle, a rear wall connecting the side and bottom walls against which the bottom of the bottle may be slid to locate the neck of the bottle with respect to the converging walls and hump, wide thin lateral base win gs extending to relatively great distance beyond both side walls whereby to give'the receptacle lateral stability and. a thin rear base wing extending beyond the rear wall to increase co the longitudinal stability of the device, said rear wall having an undercut portion to avoid the longitudinal tilting of the bottle out of the'holder.
