Description
Jul 12, 1932. R. J. TAYLOR METAL CLIP FOR CONNECTING PLASTER BOARD PANELS AND THE LIKE Filed June 13. 1931 INVENTOR ROY -01? A TTORNL: y
Patented July 12, 1932 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE ROY J. TAYLOR, OF ASI-ITAB'ULA, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO THE AMERICAN GYPSUM 00., OF PORT CLINTON, OHIO, A CORPORATION OF OHIO METAL CLIP FOR CONNECTING PLASTER BOARD PANELS AND THE LIKE Application filed June 13,
My invention relates to improved gypsum plaster board metal supporting clips for ceiling construction preferably, although the device may be used for fastening loose ends of side walls.
One object of the invention is to provide a simple cheap device that can be put on by hand with little labor.
Another object is to provide a clip that can be stamped out by dies in large quantities at a small cost.
Other objects may readily be seen by the following description in conjunction with the drawing illustrating my device and in which:
Figure 1 is a plan view showing the clip in position. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section on line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing the manner in which the device is used.
Referring to the drawing:
The plaster board panels are indicated at 1, 2, 3 and 4. The clip comprises a flat body portion 5 which is cut at intervals and bent to form a plurality of angular fins or tongues 6, 7, 8 and 9 in line on one side and 10, 11, 12 and 13 at the ends. These fins are formed by bending at right angles at 6a, 7a, 8a, 9a, 10a, 11a, 12a and 18a from the body portion 5, and the ends of the fins bent outward to form oppositely directed hooks or flanges 6b. 7b,8b,9b,10b,11b, 12b and 136.
In use, the clip is placed between the ends of the plaster boards 1 and 3 which fit between the flanges 66 and 7b, and 8b and 9b, and the under part of the body portion 5. The plaster board panels 2 and 4 may then he slid into position against the fins 10, 11, 12 and 13 respectively and are held in this position by the flanges 10?), 11b, 12?) and 13b and the projecting ends 5a and 5b of the body portion 5.
This forms a rigid structure and thus eliminates the cutting away of the loose ends and means a large saving of material.
The clip may be plastered over without obstruction.
I claim:
1. A clip for connecting plaster board panels and the like, comprising a flat plate 1931. Serial No. 544,146.
having a line of tongues projecting from one side thereof at the middle line of the plate, out and bent in alternation at opposite edges of the plate With oppositely directed flanges at the ends of the tongues respectively, said flanges being parallel to the plate, to engage the edges of panels at opposite sides of the tongues. p
2.' A clip as in claim 1, the plate also having tongues at its ends with flanges at the respective ends directed oppositely, to engage the edges of panels at opposite ends of the plate.
In testimony whereof, I do afiix my signature.
ROY J. TAYLOR.
