The present invention contemplates the provision of a bed tree, in the nature of a bed attachment, which can be conveniently and advantageously used in hospitals, dormiu tories, sanitariums and like places, although its general application is contemplated by the claims.

In carrying out the invention I contemplate a bed tree adapted to be mounted on a convenient part of a bedstead, and capable of being folded to an out-of-the-way position when not in use, and capable of being quickly and conveniently extended for use as the occasion may require.

In carrying out the invention I provide a bed tree including a standard made up of telescopic sections which can be easily collapsed or extended as desired, while the bed suporting arms can be easily extended horizontally for use, or folded longitudinally within the standard when not in use.

The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detail description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing, the invention residing in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as claimed.

In the drawing forming part of this application like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, and where- Figure 1 is a fragmentary view of a bedstead showing the manner of mounting the invention thereon.

Figure 3 is a view showing how the bed tree is collapsed and folded when not in use.

Figure 4 is a modified form of the invention.

Figure 5 is a fragmentary sectional view showing how the supporting arms are folded longitudinally within the standard when not in use.

apertured ears 12 between which is pivotally mounted lugs 13 depending from the standard as shown. Consequently the standard can be elevated to a vertical position for use as illustrated in Figure 1, or it can be arranged in a horizontal position when not in use as shown in Figure 3, in which position the standard will of course lie parallel with the top rail of the bedstead. A Set screw 14 is employed to hold the standard 60 fixed with relation to the clamp in either of its given positions. Y

The standard includes a lower section 15 and an upper telescopic section 16, while carried by the upper end of the lower section 65 is a set screw 17 for holding the telescopic section fixed relatively thereto in either extended position for use or in its collapsed position. The upper section 16 is provided with a plurality of openings to accommodate the clothes supporting arms 18, any number of which may be employed, though these arms are usually arranged in pairs which project from the sides of the section, with one pair arranged at right angular relation Y 5 to the other pair. Each arm is substantially -U-shaped as shown, and the inner or offset extremity 19 cooperates with the instruck portion 20 of the standard section as shown in Figure 2 to limit the outward movementA 80 of the arms, when they are extended for use.

-The outer end of each arm is headed as at 21 and cooperates with the instruck portion 2O of the standard section to limit the inward-movement ofthe arms, when the latter are folded within the section of the standard. By reason of this construction, it is manifest that each arm can be very conveniently extended from the standard section 16 90 for use as clearly shown in Figure 2, or it can be folded within the standard longitudinally thereof as shown in Figure 5. When it is desired to use the tree, the standard is swung to a vertical position and the arms QS extendedas shown in Figure 1, but when its use is not desired, the arms 18 are folded within the standard section 16, the latter collapsed within the lower section 15, and then the standard in its entirety folded tou m0 a horizontal position to lie adjacent the bedstead in an out-of-the-way position.

In Figure 4L I have shown a slightly modified form of the invention, which differs from the form above described in the construction of the clamp used. In this form of the invention the clamp 22 is adapted to hang over the bedstead A and held associated therewith by means of a bolt 23. The clamp however is provided with a vertically disposed socket 24 to receive the standard vmade up of the telescopic sections l5 and 16 respecftively, so that when the tree is not in use,the standard can be arranged vertically at one end of the bed instead of horizontally as shown in the preferred form of the invention. Otherwise the invent-ion is just the same as hereinabove described. i

Vhile it is believedv that from the foregoing description the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent, I desire to have it known that I- do not limit myselfto what is herein shown. and described and that such changes may be resorted to when desiredA as fall within the scope of what is` claimed.
