, DISPLAY DEVICE FOKEXHIBITING JEWELRY, TOILET ARTICLES. PERFUMERY, AND THE LIKE.
Filed Aug. so, 1927 f/VVENToR 1/ wwzw A TTORNEYS Patented Oct. 22, 1929 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE YVAN AMEZ-DROZ, OF PARIS, FRANCE, ASSIGNOR TO PARFUMERIE HOUBIGANT, OF A PARIS, FRANCE, A CORPORATION OF FRANCE DISPLAY DEVICE FOR EXHIBITING JEWELRY, TOILET ARTICLES, PERFUMERY, AND
THE LIKE Application filed August 30, 1927, Serial 1W0. 216,419, and in France July 19, 1927.
My invention relates to display devices for exhibiting jewelry, toilet articles, erfumery and the like. 7
, The object of the invention is to provlde a 6 display case for carrying the articles to be displayed in which is disposed means for automatically inclinin he said articles upon opening the case there y eliminatmg the 1nclining of the case as is usually the custom.
In the drawing-- Fig.- 1 is a longitudinal section through the case in closed position; and
Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. case in open position. 1
A box A is provided for containing the articles to be exhibited, which, instead of being disposed in the bottom of said box are disposed in corresponding compartments B furnished in a tray C pivoted at D to the front side of the box.
At the rear side of the box is pivoted the cover E. A substantially rigid hook member F provided on cover E which is adapted to engage under the free end of the tray when the case is closed and to swing upwardly when said case is opened to incline the tray C automatically to the angle desired. One or more ribbons G are rovided for limiting the extent of opening 0 cover E. From the above description it will be obvious that when the case is closed by means of its cover E the tray C carrying the objects to 1 with the be exhibited is enclosed in the interior of the case member A with the tray G supported by the member F in position for the operation referred to below.
When the cover E is raised to o n thevca-se, the tray C is automatically an uniformly raised at the same time in a manner to give it the inclination desired. This is accomplished by the hook member F which engages the tray C 'when the case is closed and which when swung upwardly by. the member E raises said tray to the desired inclination by turning it member F and to its short turning radius the tray B is supported in its elevated position with such positiveness that removal of the displayed article is materially facilitated.
Furthermore the pressure exerted by the about the pivot D. Due to the rigidity of-the.
tray B upon the arm F is substantially in line with the pivot of the cover E and arm F so that no additional securing means for hold-f ing the cover open 1s required but instead the parts tend readily to remain in either open or closed ositions.
In 0 osing the'cover E the tray C due to its own weight and the weight of the objects carried thereby follows the hook member. F, since said tray is pivoted at D, and automatically reenters the case member A as shown in I Fig. 1;
Having thus described my invention what I clann as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- 1. A display device comprising a case, a display tray hinged to the inner front side of said case, a cover hinged to the rear side of said case, a right-angled hook fixed to said cover and adapted to engage the under side of the free end of said display tray when said cover is closed and to swing upwardly thereunder toa osition such that the pressure exerted by sald tray on said hook is in a direction su stantially radial with respect to the ivot of said cover and hook when said cover s opened and means for preventing further opening of said cover when the free end of said hook has produced the required amount of inclination in said tray.
2. A display device comprising a case, a dis lay tray hinged to the inner. front side of sai case, a cover hinged to the rear side of said case, a substantially rigid right-angled hook fixed to said cover and adapted to fit over and support the free end of said display tray when said cover is closed and to swing upwardly thereunder and to engage with said tray at apoint such that the hinge of said cover, the point of engagement of said arm and tray and the hinge of said tray form substantially a right angle when said cover is opened and flexible means connecting said case and said cover for limiting the upward displacement of thefree end of said hook.
In testimony whereof I have afiixed my signature.
YVAN AMEZ-DROZ.
