This invention relates to improvements in shirts and particularly to mens work shirts. The primary object of the invention is to provide a garment of the above kind having a re-enforcing strip of fabric stitched to the exterior thereof and which extends across the upper portion of the. back or shoulders and.

while the re-enforcement is applied to the exterior adjacent the seam between the sleeve and the body thus preventing chafing of the skin of a wearer as the rough edges of the reenforcement cannot touch the skin.

A further object is the provision of a garment having a re-enforcement formed of a single piece of material and which is stitched to the exterior of the body of the garment by triple stitching, thus producing a work garment which is strong and durable.

A still further object is the provision of a re-enforced work shirt which is simple in construction, inexpensive of manufacture and attractive and stylish in appearance.

lVith these and other objects in view, the invention resides in certain novel construction and combination and arrangement of parts, the essential features of which are hereinafter fully described, are particularly pointed out in the appended claim, and are illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved shirt looking at the front thereof.

Figure 2 is a similar view but looking at the rear thereof.

Figure 5 is a plan view of the re-enforcing strip.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, the reference numeral 10 designates my improved garment in its entirety and which represents a mans work shirt which is buttonable at the front for the full length thereof as at 11. rlhe shirt includes the usual front 12, back 13, sleeves 14, collar 15 and pockets 16 at the front. The pockets are of the bellows type and have a separate compartment 17 for a pencil' anda buttonable flap 18 for preventing accidental loss of any article carried in the pockets.

The sleeves 14C are set into the arm holes of the shirt body and stitched by triple stitching 19 to the body of theshirt and by a re-enforcing strip 2O now to be-described.

The re-enforcing strip 20 comprises a single piece of material of a color and texture similar to the fabric from which the garment is formed and is shown in plan in Figure 5 of the drawings. The re-enforcement is cut to provide a back or shoulder 11e-enforcing portion 21 which extends entirely across the shoulder portion of the garment to the sleeve thereof, and U-shapedyokes or arm pit reenforcing' portions 21 which extend from the ends of the shoulder portion and pass beneath the arm pits of the shirt and up around to the front where the free ends of the yoke are stitched to the shoulder portion 20 by triple stitching 29.. The edges of the yokes 21 are attached to the body of the shirt by triple stitching 23 while the edges of the shoulder portion are Vattached to the shirt body by the triple stitching 19. This triple stitching of the re-enforcement provides a strong and durable means of attaching the same to the shirt body which is at times subjected to various strains during the movements of the body of a wearer.

For Ventilating the arm pits of the shirt, I provide the same with openings 25 which allows evaporation of perspiration which usually occurs beneath the arms of a wearer.

From the foregoing description, lit will be manifest that l have shown and described a Work shirt which is re-enforced at points most likely to become torn or ripped 'due to the body `movements of a wearer and which will greatly prolong the life of the garment. The shirt is designed to meet all the requirements of a 'workman and may be said to appear neat and attractive when donned.

Vhile I have shown and described what I consider to be the most desirable embodiment of my invention, it is obvious that many of the details may be varied without in any way departing from the spirit of my invention, and I therefore do not limit myself to the exact details of construction herein set forth nor to anything less than the whole of my invention limited only by the appended claim.

What is claimed as new is A shirt having a. body buttonable at the front, and a pair ofV sleeves therefor; to-

gether With a single strip of material coinprising a back shoulder reinforcing part attached to said body, and U-shaped portions depending by one of their respective legs froin the back of said shoulder part at each end thereof and passing around the arni openings of the shirt, the ends of the opposite legs of said U-shaped portions being attached to the front of said shoulder part opposite said 'K10 respective 'depending legs, thereby forming a reinforcing band around each of said arm openings, the inner edges of said U-shaped portions being stitched to said body, and the outer edges of said U-shaped portions being stitched in the seams around said arm openings with the edges of said sleeves.
