Description
Patented July 2, 1929.
PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES THEODOBE SIBCH, 0F NEW YORK, N. Y.
SAFETY RAZOR.
Application filed March 21, 1928. Serial N'o. 263,577.
guishing features and advantages will ap-` pear when the following specification is read in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure l is a side elevation of the razorembodying the features of the present invention ready for shaving.
Fig. 2 is an end elevation, the clamping member of the blade holder being shown 1n dot and dash lines in an opened position.
Fig. 3 is a sectional View taken on the line 3-3 o'f Fig. l.
Referring now more particularly to the several views of the drawing it will be apparent that the razor is adapted to hold a blade 10. The blade 10 in the present in-v stance has one cutting edge indicated at 11. The razor includes a blade holder consisting of a rest member 12 and a clamping member 13 which vcooperates with the rest member 12 to hold the blade 10 in proper osition. The rest member 12 has a guar 14 which is formed by perforating and curving or rounding one side edge of the rest member 12. The opposite side edge of the' rest member is curved somewhat from the plane of the central portion of the member 12 as at 15. The rest member is formed with trunnions 16 respectively at the opposite ends thereof for a purpose toappear. The rest member 12 also has tongues 17 respectively at two of the corners at the guard side, and the said tongues 17 are adapted to engage the cutting edge 11 of the blade 10vto properly positlon the blade on the rest member 12 with the cutting edge 11 disposed in proper cutting 'position with respect to the guard'14. The clamping member 13 is formed from a single piece of material to provide a clamping edge 18, lugs 19 respectively at the o posite ends thereof, and has a threaded ho e 20. The lugs .19 have holes which respectively accommodate the trunnion 16 on the rest member 12 so as to mount the clamping member 13 for pivotal or rocking movement with respect to the rest member 12. The clamping member 13 is so proportioned that the clamping edge 18 may be brought into clamping engagement with the blade 10 immediately adjacent the cutting edge 11 to hold the latter in contact with the guard 14. The rest member 12 of the blade holder has connected therewith a handle 21. The handle 21 may be connected with the rest member 12 in any suitable'manner, and in the present instance the handle 21 has a reduced threaded end 22 which screws into al threaded hole in the member 12.
In order to hold the clampin member 13 in position to brin about vthe c amping engagement of the ege18 with the blade l() there is provided a screw 23 having a knurled head 24. The screw 23 is adapted for threading action in the hole 20' of the clamping member 13, and said screw is engageable with a conical portion 25 of the handle 21. It will now be apparent that by manipulating the screw 23 to bring it into engagement with the portion 25, the clamping member 13 may be placed under pressure to set up the clam ing action of the edge 18. It will also e apparent that by unscrewing the screw 23, the clamping member 13 may be moved to a raised or opened position under the weight of the screw 23 to be temporarily held in such position, to allow the blade 10 to be readily removed, or a blade to be positioned on the rest member 12.
The handle 21 has a lexiblesection which is produced by the provision of a coil spring .26. The opposite ends of the spring 26 are respectively connected with parts of the handle. .y
I claim: f In a safety razor, a blade, a blade rest member having a guard on one edge thereof, a handle on the up er end of which the rest member is arrange means on the rest member for properly locating the blade on said rest member with its cutting edge disposed in cutting position with respect to the ard, a blade clampingmember connected w1th the rear end of rest member for pivotal movement with respect thereto, said clamping f member being so formed/'that one edge thereof constitutin a clamping edge magI .be brought intoy c amping engagement wit the lll blade immediately adjacent its cutting edge the clamping member in a raised or opened to hold it in contact with the guard and an position. v Y f adjustable element carried vby the clamping Signed at New York, in the county of New 1o member at the rear thereof adapted to coop.- York and State of New York, this 19th day 5 erate withfthe handleto hold said clamping of March, A. D. 1928.
ede in contact with the blade, said ad ustab e element also serving to temporarily old CHARLES THEODORE SIRCH.
