AUTOMATIC ADVERTISING MACHINE.
Application and April 11, 192s. seriai No. 269,235.
This invention aims to provide a simple means whereby a plurality of tablets may be made to move in an orbit, the tablets being exposed during a part of their travel, so that they can be seen, the tablets thereby being available as an advertising medium.
It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the invention appertains.
lVith the above and other objects in view which will appear as-the description proceeds, thel invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
ln the drawings Figure 1 shows in front elevation, a machine constructed in accordance with the invention, parts being broken away;
Figure 2 is a section on the line 2 2 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Figure 1;
Figure 4 is an end elevation;
Figure 5 is a 'section taken about on the line 5--5 of Figure 3, and illustrating one of the steps in the operation of the machine; and
F igure6 is a fragmental elevation.V
In carrying out the invention, there is provided a frame 1 including standards 2 in the form of plates, connected by a horizontal top plate 3, a' table 4 disposed below the top plate 3, and a lower platform 5 arranged below the table 4. There are notches 6 inthe corners of the top plate 3 and the lower platform 5. The table 4 is somewhat narrower than the top platey 3 andthe lower platform 5. The standards 2 are supplied along their longitudinal edges with troughshaped guides. v
Lower shafts 8, upper shafts 9, and an intermediate shaftlO are journaled for ro-l tation in the standards 2. The intermediate shaft 10 is located above and midway between the shafts 9, and the shafts 9 are with a driving means 11, .of any desired kind. There are sprocketwheels 12 on the with guide rollers 14.
Vshafts 8 and 9. The shaft 10 is supplied At their upper ends, the upper stacking` are equipped at their upper ends with in-V 'vwardly extended arms 26 which are located at a higher level than the table 4. The heads 27 are at the lower ends of the lower stacking levers 25 and have inclined edges 28. Springs 30`on the brackets hold the levers 25 vertically, as` shown in Figure 2. The heads 27 of the levers 25 are offset outwardly, as shown at 29, in Figure 1. The saine construction holds with respect to the 'upper stacking levers 20. Owing to the fact that the levers are oH-set as shown at 29, the Y cams 16 and 17 cooperate with the inclined edges 23 of the heads 22 of the levers 20, and with the inclined edges 28 of the'heads 27 ofy the levers 25, but do not strike the arms 21 :and 26. Supports 31 in the form of upwardly extended ring strips, are mounted on the guides 7 outwardly of but closely adjacent to the upper stacking` levers 20. The supports 31v have inwardly extended ngers 32, and at their upper ends they have inclined surfaces 33 that slant downwardly and inwardly, as seeniin Figure 5. A plurality of advertising tablets 34 are mounted on the table 4 and on the.
lower platform 5.
Referring to Figure 2 of theJ drawings,
.110 letit be supposed that the chains 15, underV ythe impulse of the driving means shown at 11, in Figure 1, are moving in the direction of the arrows in Figure 2. The lugs 18 move upwardly under one of the tablets 3l that has been advanced off the platform 5 and raise that tablet until the said tablet is at a slightly higher lever than the table 4. By that time, the second cams 17 will have engaged the inclined edges 28 of the heads Y27 of the lower stacking levers 25, and the 'stacking levers 25 will be tilted on their fulcra. The arms 26 of the levers 25 are caused to move inwardly and crowd over to the left in Figure 2, the whole bunch of tablets on the table 4;.' When the tablets 34 on the table 4l arev crowded over to the left, as aforesaid, one of the tablets, at the extreme left hand end of the upper' row, is moved over upon the fingers 32 of the springs 30 and is there held. It will be noted that when the cams 16 at the right hand side of Figure 2 move upwardly, they will tilt the lever 25 before the lcam 17 tilts the lever25, but this is of no consequence, or at least, is not detrimental.
As the chains 15 continue to move in the direction of the arrows in Figure 2, the cams 16 engage the edges 23 of the upper stacliing levers 20 and tilt the levers, butthis is not objectionable. The cams 16 continue to move downwardly at the left hand side of Figure 2, and, ultimately,they ride on the `inclined surfaces 33 of the resilient supports 31 and withdraw the parts 32 from beneath the left hand tablet 34 in the uppermost line of Figure 2.A This permits the tablet at the extreme left hand end of the uppermost line in Figure 2'to drop down- V, wardly on the lower platform 1,`but if, for
any reason, the tablet happens to stick, the lugs 18 will engage the upper edge of the tablet and carry it down upon the lower platform 5. The next operation is shown 1n Figure 5 of the drawings, the cams 17 engaging the inclined edges of the upper stacking levers 20, and tiltingthose levers, the arms 21 moving inwardly and shoving Aover the lower line of tablets on the lower platform 5, until the right hand tablet in the lower line is in position to be picked up by the lugs 18. The lugs 18, the cams 17,
and thecams 16, pass through the notches 6 in thekcorner's of the top plate and of the lower platform 5. The lower platform 5 Aex-tends far enough out, as shown in Figure from Figure 1, that the exposed surfaces of i."
tue outermost tablets always can be seen,
las to carry the outermost tablet at one end of the stack on the table downwardly at one side of the frame and deposit the said tablet on the platform, and to carry the outermost tablet at one end of the stack on the platform upwardly at the opposite side of the vframe to a point above the table, levers fulcrumed intermediate' their ends on opposite sides of the frame, one lever being provided at its upper end with a part which slides the stack of tablets on the table in one direction,
to bring the said outermost tablet inl the stack on the table into the path of the lug, and to move the tablet at the opposite end of the stack on the table out of the path of the lug, when said lever is tilted, the other lever being provided at its lower end with a part which slides the stack of tablets on the platform in an opposite direction to bring the said outermost tablet in the stack on the platform into the path of the lug, and to move the tablet at the opposite end of the stack on the platform out of the path of the lug, when said other lever is tilted, and
means on the flexible element for. engaging the lower end of the first specified lever, and the upper end of said other lever, to tilt the levers as aforesaid.
2. In a device of the class described, a frame includinga table and a platformVv below the table, vtablets set up edgewise in a stack on the table, and in a stack on the platform, an endless flexible element movable on the frame around the table and the platform, a lug on the flexible element and so located as to carry the outermost tablet at one end of the stack on the table downwardly at one side of the frame and deposit the said tablet on the platform, and to carry the outermost tablet at one end of the stack on the platform upwardly at the opposite side ofthe frame to a point above the table, levers fulcrumed intermediate their ends on 'opposite sides of the frame, one lever Vbeing provided at its upper end with a part which slides the stack of tablets on the table in one direction, to bring the said outermost tablet in the stack on the table into the path of the lug, and to move the tablet at the opposite end of the stack on the table outk of the path -of the lug, when said lever is tilted, theY other lever being provided at its lower end with a part which slides the stack of tablets on the plataforesaid, movable means on the frame for form in an opposite direction to bring the supporting said outermost tablet in the stack said outermost tablet in the stack on the on the table against downward movement, platform into the path of the lug, and to and a projection on the flexible element and move the tablet at the opposite end ofthe engaging said movable means. to release it 15 stach on the platform out of the path of the from the tablet which it supports, thereby to lug, when said other lever is tilted, means on permit the said tablet to move downwardly. the flexible element for engaging the lower In testimony that Claim the foregoing as end of the first specified lever, land the upper my own, I have hereto afliXed my signature.
