lviixing machines have been heretofore provided with means for mixing' molasses with stoel-t feed, and one object of my invention is to provide an apparatus of the character referred to with improved means for feediir molasses for admixtui'e with grain or aranular materials conducted into the mixing' chamber of Ya suitable mixing; device, iireferably` of the vertical mixer type, in such manner as to avoid the formation of lumps as in feed and molasses mixing' machines as here? fore constructed, and to adapt the mixinp; device to be used independently of the means employed for feeding' molasses to be comminpjled with the food-stehQ in the mixing' chau'iber.
ll/luch trouble and inconvenience has been exp 'ienced in cleaning' out the mixing chamber and mixing' devices in what are known in the art as vei'tical mixers as heretot'oi'e ordinarily constructed, on account el the necessarily restricted space `allowed to a 'lord access to the interior of the cham her and the mixing' device employed thereink and another object of my invention is to avoid the trouble and inconvenience inciv dent to cleaning' such mixers, 'by providing a mixing; chamber having' i'emovable panel to afford access to its interior and to the mixing' device therein for the purpose of cleaning the same.
Other objects are to provide a simple and efficient molasses feeding' device that will distribute the molasses upon the n'rain or granular materials within the mixing' chamber in small quantities at different points and to increase the etliciency of such machines and at the same time insure a more perfect mixture of the molasses with other ingredients.

In Figs. 6 and 7 of the drawings is shown a modification of the distributing means. ln this instance the molasses cup L1 is provided with a plurality of discharge tubes or nozzles P of different lengths having their free ends turned downwardly to prevent the liquid from being thrown against the interior wall of the casing by centrifugal force.l The discharge tubes or nozzles P, as shown, increase in length around the container; a short nozzle P being provided at one side of the cup, and longer nozzles P1, P2 and P3 arranged at equi-distances apart around the container and increasing in length in the order mentioned.
As will be seen, an unobstructed annular space is provided around the spiral conveyor, which is adapted to produce an upwardly moving column of material surrounding the conveyor and overturn and throw the same off into said annular space at the upper end of the conveyor, from which point the mixture is caused to descend by gravity through said annular space until it reaches the lower end of the conveyor when the material will be again raised centrally of the descending current and so on, thus overturning, agitating and mixing the materials until a thorough mixture is effected, whereupon the contents of the chamber may be discharged through a valve controlled discharge opening at the foot of the vertical shaft.
ln operation, the dry materials to be mixed are placed in or conducted into the mixing chamber and mixed in the usual way by imparting motion to the mixing device within said chamber, either with or without the addition of molasses as an ingredient of the mixture, and when the desired mixture is effected the contents of the mixing chamber may be emptied into a suitable receptacle or, conducted into a discharge spout at the lower end of the mixing chamber; the materials being mixed in batches of greater or less quantity and discharged from time to time as desired. lWhen molasses is to be mixed with the soft dry feeds or grain or granular material, a valve in the feed pipe N, which is connected with a source of supply, is opened, and molasses, preferably heated so as to adapt it to run freely and prevent cold molasses from adhering to the feed pipe and distributing means within the mixing chamber, is conducted into the revolving molasses cup and distributed as the cup revolves within the mixing chamber; the molasses being caused to flow by gravity when the heating chamber is located above the mixing chamber, or a pump (not shown) may be employed, when the source of supply is located below the mixing chan'iber'.
Having thus described my invention, what l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
l. in combination with the mixing chamber of an apparatus for mixing dry pulverulent materials, a devicefor distributively and uniformly discharging molasses in small quantities into the materials undergoing a mixing operation therein, said dev`ce comprising a cup-like receiver revolubly mounted and axially adjustable within said chamber and having radially extended discharge nozzles through which molasses supplied thereto will drain .into the mixing materials only in line streams or drops, together with means for supplying molasses to said cup-like receiver.
2. In combination with stock-feed mixing apparatus enibodying a mixingchamber, and mixing device revolubly mounted on a driving shaft arranged within said chami bei', a molasses feeding and distributing device comprising a cup-like receiver adjustably fixed on said shaft to rotate therewith and having a radially extended discharge nozzle through which molasses supplied thereto will drain into the mixing chamber in only a fine stream or drops, together with means for supplying molasses to said distributing device.

A stock-feed mixing` machine comprising an elongated vertically disposed mixing chamber, a mixing device fixed (in a shaft revolubly mounted in said` chamber, a liquid feeding and distributing means adjustably secured on said shaft to revolve therewith and comprising a tubular reservoir having` a downwardly discharging nozzle extending radially therefrom through which liquid will drain into the mixing chamber only in a line stream or drops, means preventing liquid from over-iiowing the reservoir and down said shaft, and means for su )plying liquid to through which liquid will discharge downwardly in fine streams or drops, the said nozzles being formed to counteract the centrifugal force imparted to liquid discharged therethrough during revolution of the reserlll) 'voir so as to prevent the liquid being thrown against the walls ot the chamber, and means 'tor supplying liquid to said reservoir.
5. ln combination' with a stock-toed mixmachine embodying` an oblong vertically disposed mixing chamber having a vertically disposed spiral conveyor and mixing device arranged therein; a molasses distributingl device ievolubly mounted above said conveyor within said chamber, said device comprising a cup-like member providing a liquid reservoir concentrically et' the conveyor sha-'tt and having radially extending nozzles ot dillerent lengths leading therefrom to discharge the liquid downwardly in line streams or drops into the mixing chamber, and means l'or supplying molasses to said cup-like member.

A stock-leed mixing machine according to claim 3, wherein the elongate vertically disposed mixing chamber provided with a removable panel having its inner surliaee coni'orniing to and llush with the inner surface ol the chamber, said panel being constructed with its lower end adapted to interlocking engagement with a l'ixturc on the outer wall ot said chamber and with its upper end releasably secured to said outer wall so that the panel may be raised and removed to at tord access to the interior of said chamber. 9. A stock-reed nnsing machine having an elongated vertically disposed mixing chamber provided with removable panel closely fitting an oblong opening in'one side ogt .the chamber with its inner surface contorming to and flush with the inner surface o'l" said chamber, said panel lnivingsecured thereto along its edges metal plates having outwardly projecting zertured l'lai'iges opposing flanges ot similar plates secured on the outer side oit' the chanibei', and fastening bolts "inserted through the apertured langes oi the opposed ,ets ot' plates vfor detachably securing them together, thus adapting the panel to be removed to attord access to the interiorrot' said chamber; the panel being supported at its lower end on one of said angular plates by an interlocking connection therewith and having' its upper end slightly separated trom and slidably connected with 'he adjacent edge oit the casing so as to adapt the panel to be raised suliciently to disengage the interlocking connection at its lower end and permit the panel to be removed.
