This invention relates to improvements in internal combustion motors, the general object of the invention being to provide coneshaped valves for the motor for increasing the effectiveness of the same.
Another object of the invention is to provide reciprocating rods operated by cams and having means thereon for rotating the valves.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement oi? the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a side view of a motor constructed in accordance with this invention.

Figure 3 is a section on line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a section on line H of Figure 2.
In these views 1 indicates the body of the engine and 2 indicates the cylinders therein. The head 3 of the engine is provided with cone-shaped valve seats 4 which are formed with a plurality of ports 5 which communicate with the passages 6. A cone-shaped valve 7 engages each valve seat, each valve having a plurality of ports 8 for cooperating with ports 5 in the valve seat. The stem 9 of each valve passes through the head and projects above the same, the projecting part having a ball bearing 10 at its upper end which engages the upper end of a coil spring 11, the lower end of the spring bearing against the head. This spring acts to hold the valve against the seat. Each valve is adapted to be rotated by means of a push rod 12 which has rack teeth 13 thereon for engaging teeth 14 on the valve stem. A cam 15 engages each end of each push rod and the cams are placed on shafts 16, these shafts being connected by the gears 17 with a shaft 18, which is driven 1923-. Serial No. 642,020.
in any suitable manner from the crank shaft. The push rods are enclosed in housings 19 and the parts may be lubricated by forcing oil through the oil passages 20 in any suitable manner.
There may be two valves to each cylinder, one valve being an. intake valve and the other an exhaust valve or I may provide a pair of inlet valves and a pair of exhaust valves for each cylinder as shown in the detail views. In this case the spark plug 21 is located in the center. By rotating the valves the ports will be opened and closed will be understood so as to control the inlet an d exhaust. By using a large number of ports the effectiveness of the motor will be increased. These valves also eliminate grinding and they are free from vibration.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall Within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is V In an internal combustion engine, a plurality of cylinders, a pair of cone-shaped valve seats in the head of each cylinder, each seat having a plurality of ports, a pair of hollow cone-shaped valves having ports registering with those of the valve seat seated in the said seats, a stem integral with each valve respectively extending up through the head, a washer carried on the end of the stem by a cotter pin, a ball bearing race carried on the stem bearing against the washer, a coil spring carried on the stem bearing against the bearing race and the top of the cylinder head, thereby holding the valve on its seat, a cap fitting over the projecting end of each stem and enclosing the spring and the ball bearing and fitted to a part of the cylinder head and a means for turning the valve.
