CONDUCTOR AHANGER Filed. Oct. 28, 1926 Patented Mar.r 19, 1929.
UNM-ED zSTA*FEIS y 1,705,691" PATENT OFFICE.;
ALBERT vaurin., or BanLlirN-GRVUNEWALD, GERMANY, AssIGNoR' TOWnsTINenoUsE v ELECTRIC a' MANUFACTURING COMPANY, ,a CORPORATION or PENNSYLVANTA,
' CONDUCTOR HANGER;
Appucaeion 'mea `October 2s, 11926, serial No.
,i My invention relates'to conductor hangers' its operation.
VAanother object of my invention is to provide a transmission-line hangerthatshall be free of smallloosc. parts, such as nuts and bolts, and vthat shall thereby greatly facili-k tate Vits installation.v` f
f A further object offmy yinvention isto provide a hanger of the tongs or 9come-a long. type that shall' embody asingle pivot member.4 y i Heretofore, a transmission-line hanger of the tonosl or pivoted-link type has embodied a plurality of links and pivot pins rendering the device expensive and ditiicult to manufacture, as well as diiicult toinstall.
Accordingly, it is my aim to overcome these objections and to simplify the device by re-` ducing the number of parts and providing a single pivot connection therefor.
Figure 1 of theaccompanying drawings is a side elevational view of a hanger constructed in accordance with my invention,'portions being broken away for clearness and the several elements thereofv being disposed inopen relation for receiving a conductor.
Fig. 2 is a view, similar to Fig. 1, of the device shown therein but with` the conductor in position and the device in its closed 'or clamping position, and q Fig. V3 isa view, similar to Fig. 2, of a modified form of my invention.
- The device comprises, in general,y a conductor-supporting member 1, clamping mem'- bers 2`and 3, and a hanger member. 4 for effecting the clamping action of the members 2 and 3 and supporting the hanger, as a-v Whole, from a high-voltage insulator or similar structure. u
The member 1 has `a portion 5, preferablyf of slightly curved channelshape, having one of its sides 7 projecting upwardly therefrom and provided with Van 'opening for the recep- -tion of a pivot pin 8. v
Each of the arms 2 and 3 comprises a clamping portion 9 having a slightly curved clamping surface 10 substantially conform-- ing to the curvature of the channeled portion 5, an armv portion 12 and an outwardly 144,769,-and, in Germany November21, 1925.
extending hook portion 14 .at the outer end ofthearm12- Y' f@ Y f The hanger member 4 comprises an eye or other portion 15 for attaching the-.device to asuspension insulator, in a usual and wellknown manner, and a portion- 16 having a slot or aperture 17 therein, whereby the member 4 may embrace the arms 12. i
In Operation, with the parts related as shown in Fig..1, a conductor y18, asshown in Fig.. 2,fis placed in the channel portion,
after which the member4- is"I moved away.v
from themember 1 to move the arms 12 toward eachother aboutthe piny 8 and to move the clamping surfaces -10 against the conductorv18.; This movement may beeifected dur-v ingftli'e installation of the device by placing ka hookin ytheeye lfto raise the clamp to operative position onjan insulating toweror similar structure. i A f As shown in Fig. 2, the device depends, for its clamping action, upon the weight of the conductor 18 and is prevented from releasefrom its supporte-d position by the hook portions 14 on the arms12.
In the modification yof my invention shown ilr'F ig. 3, in which corresponding parts arer oaf designated by corresponding reference characters, the construction is substantially the same with the exception that a screw bolt 20 or other means is provided which cooperates between the members 1 and 4 to effect a permanent lock Vbetween the parts. i
While 1 have shown and described kparticular forms 'of' my invention, changes may 4be effected therein without departing from 'the spirit and scopel thereof, as set forth the appended claims.V y I claim as my invention:
1. A- conductor hanger comprising a conductor-supporting clampjaw member, pivoted clamp-jaw Imembers having a single pivotal connection to said supporting jaw member and a `suspension member cooperat.- ing with said pivoted members to effect the clamping action. u A2. A conductor hanger comprising a mem- .ber having a channel' for the reception of a .conductor and a pivot, clamp members vmounted on said pivot adjacent to said channel and a suspension member for supporting and actuating said pivoted members about .the pivot thereof to clamping Vpositions and holding them therein.
3.`A" conductor .hanger comprising a` conductorsupporting` clamp-jaw member, a pair of crossed movable clamp-j aw members mounted on said supporting` member by meansoi' a single pivot and means for actuating and fastening said movable clamping members 4. A conductor hanger comprising av conductonsupporting clamp member, a pair of movableclamp members including crossed arms having a single pivotal connection to said supporting member', and a suspension member cooperating with the outer portionsv of said arms to effect clampingaction between said members.
5; A conductor hanger comprising a chan` neled conductoresupporting clamp member having a pivot-supporting portion, a pair of crossed clamp members pivoted to said portion:anduhavin` clamping portions to engage theoonduct'or and diverging` outer arm )ortions, and afsnspension member embracing said outer arm portions, the clamping action beingl effected by relative movement'between conductorin thech annel` and divergingouter arms, said arms having hook portions, and a suspension member embracingsaid arms inside said hook portions l A 7. A conductor hanger comprising a chain neled cla-mp member for supporting1 the conductor` and having a pivot-supporting por tion, a pair of crossed clamp members pivoted to saidportion and havingelampportions on opposite sides of the pivot Yfor engaging the conductor in the channel and diverging outer armportions,- a suspension member embracing said outer arm portions, and means for locking the suspension member relative to the channeled member.
8. A conductor hanger comprising co-oper ating` relatively1novableclampjaiv members including a pair of crossed pivoted arms, and a membercooperating,l with said arms outside the pivot position thereof for supporting said tir-st membersv and causing clamping relative movement thereof, saidv first members including` means for preventing separation oli the clamping members Afrom thel supporting member.
In testimony whereof, have hereuntoy subscribed my name this 5th day of October,
ALBERT VAUPEL.
