BLIND FOR HALTERS.

Application filed November 15, 1926. Serial No. 148,577.

This invention appertains to new and useful improvements in attachments for halters and has for its primary object the provision of a blind which may be readily associated with a conventional halter whereby the same can be used as a blind bridle.

Another object of the present invention is the provision of new and novel means whereby the blinds may be easily and quickly detachably secured to the halter so that they may be readily removed therefrom whenever desired, and further, to provide means for securing the blinds together.

A further object of the present invention is to provide such a removable blind of the above character which is simple, yet durable inconstruction, practical and eflicient in use, easy and cheap to manufacture and which can be placed upon the market at a small cost and secured to a halter with the expenditure of a minimum amount of both time and labor.

Numerous other objects and advantages of the present invention will become more readily apparent during the course of the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings.

In the drawings forming a part of this application and wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts throughout the several views:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a conventional halter having associated therewith improved blinds constructed in accordance with the present invention.

Figure 2 is a side elevation of a portion of the halter showing one of the improved removable blinds attached thereto.

Figure 3 is a detail section taken on the line 38 of Figure 2 showing the manner in which the blinds are removably secured in place, and

Figure 4 is a perspective view of one of the attaching sleeves for the blind support.

Referring now more in detail to the accompanying drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration has been shown a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the letter A generally indicates a halter which may be of any conventional or preferred construction and B and C the improved blinds removably associated therewith.

The halter A disclosed herein has been shown simply in order that the application and use of the present invention might be more readily understood and it will be appreciated that the blinds B and C may be associated with halters of various types and makes or bridles. As shown, however, the halter A embodies in its construction a neck band 10 to which are secured the side straps 1 1 and straps having connected to their outer ends the bit 12. Secured to and extending between the side straps 11 at the inner ends thereof is the transverse brow band 13.

The blinds B and G are adapted to be connected to the side straps 11 and in order that this may be accomplished, there is secured to each of the said side straps a flat attaching plate 14;. Each of the said attaching plates is substantially rectangular and is provided adjacent one longitudinal edge thereof with the spaced slots 15 and 16 which extend longitudinally of thesaid plate and opening out through the inner and outer faces thereof. The attaching plates 14 are secured to the side straps 11 by means of rivets or the like 17 and are so positioned that the slots 15 and 1 6 are disposed forwardly.

Each of the said blinds B and C comprises simply a plate 18 which may be of any desired size or shape but which for the purpose of illustration has been shown as being of a substantially oval formation provided along one of its longitudinal edges with the laterally directed spaced fingers 19 and 20, the free ends of which are bent to provide clips 21 and 22, said clips adapted to be detachably engaged within the slots 15 and 16 in the attaching plates 14. These fingers or hooks 19 and 20 can be secured to the blinds in any preferred way.

Riveted or otherwise suitably secured as at 23 to each of the blinds B and C and projecting forwardly thereof is a socket member 24. Secured within the said socket members 24 are the opposite ends of the transversely extending cord or other suitable flexible element 25 which serves to connect the blinds together. If preferred these sockets can be rolled, from sheet metal and provided with teeth or biting flanges 24 for engaging the flexible element 25.

In order to support the flexible element 25, there is secured to the brow band 13 of the halter A, intermediate the ends thereof, a strip 26 while secured to the flexible element 25 is a suitable clip 27 which is adapted to engage the said strip 26.

When it is desired to equip the halter A or any other conventional or preferredtype of halter with the blinds B and C, the attaching plates 14 are first secured to the side straps 11 and the bracket 26 is secured to the brow band 13. The blinds B and C are then secured in position by simply engaging the clips 21 and 22 carried thereby Within the slots 15 and 16 in the attaching plates 14 after Which the clip 27 carried by the flexible element 25 is placed over the brow band 13 and then between the strip 26 and the band which prevents displacement thereof. It will be readily apparent from the above that the blinds B and C may be easily and quickly removed Whenever desired.

Changes in the details of construction may be resorted to Without departing from or sacrificing the spirit of the invention so long as such changes fall Within the scope of the appended claim.

What is claimed is:

A halter attachment comprising blinds, flat plates secured to the halter' and provided adjacent their forward edges with spaced slots opening out through their inner and outer faces and open hooks secured to the blinds and passing through the slots and engaged with the plates.
