Generally stated, the invention is charac- In order to permit the mounting of suction terized in that the raising press of the ordicylinder 1 upon adjustable rocking levers it ill? nary machines is replaced by a suction cylinis provided at both ends thereof with a supder mounted. upon a rocking lever device alporting arm 2 to which the related bearing lowing an accurate adjustment of the desired of the said cylinder is secured. The arm comcontact pressure between the felt and the prises two hinges, viz., hinge 3 on upright 4 V cloth, the rocking levers being fitted with and inge 5 between the S id arm and t e an oil damper comprising a system for comlever 6 of the scale. For this purpose the arm 2 is the details of which are to be dealt with loosened from the end 5 of the scale simply go hereinafter. by manual pulling out of the grip pin 10. Figure 3 is a cross sectional view showing Each rocking lever device comprises a lever the construction of one rocking lever. 6 hingedly secured at 5 to the rocking sup- Figure e is a cross sectional view taken on porting arm as described above. the point 14 i 3 u 3 I y n to line le-4t of F igure 0. bearing upon a knife-edge 15. The sald lever loo 6 is hingedly secured at 16 to a twin rod 17 by which it is connected to the damper 18.
A counterpoise 19 adapted to be shifted by means of a screw or otherwise allows the pressure between the suction cylinder 1 and the cloth roller20 to be adjusted.
A stop 21 secured upon the rocking lever carrying upright 22 and fitted in the recess 23 in the lever, prevents the swinging of the knife-edge 15 and provides for the accurate co-incidence of the hinge holes at 5, so that the pin 10 may be driven in and out easily.
The damper or moderator 18 is of the oscillating piston type. The oscillating piston 25 is provided with a pair of valves 24 for the purpose of allowing the filling of the chamhers 26 formed by the piston walls on either side of the joint block 27. The filling of both chambers is thus efi'ected simply by swinging the piston by hand. Moreover, these valves provide for the automatic makeup of any oil loss by drawing from the oil supply-28 arranged at the top portion of the damper casing, the small working displacements of the piston being suflicient for the purpose.
The object of the damper is to wholly eliminate the vibrations and oscillations of the suction cylinder which would infallibly result in the production of mashed or wrinkled sheets by reason of variations in the contact pressure.
The trimming pick-up cylinders are shown at 29 in Figures 16 and 17. They consist of a cylinder lined with flexible india rubber and a frame 30 carrying the hinged trimming scrape-off blade-31. The cylinder is mounted in ball bearings arranged in the frame which is adapted to be shifted along a cross bar 31 parallel to the suction cylinder and hingedly mounted in the pair of supporting arms and projecting through two hubs thereon.
This arrangement allows the adjustment of the pick-up cylinders according to the size and also permits the disengagement of the cylinders as desired. The disengaging device comprises a stop 33 secured to the cross-bar carrying the pick-up cylinders and actuated from the operators side by means of a cam provided with an operating handle.
It is to be understood that'the embodiment just described is b no ways of limitative character and len s itself to all desirable modifications without thereby departing from the scope of the invention as set forth in the appended claims.
Claims:
1. In machines for the manufacture of paper where the raising is performed automatically by means of a raising felt, the improvement consisting in the provision of a suction cylinder operating as a sheet raising device, the said suction cylinder being mounted upon adjustable rocking arms the oscillations of which are damped in order to avoid the mashing or wrinkling of the sheet.
2. In machines for the manufacture of paper according to claim 1, the provision of an adjustable trimming pick-up cylinder device combined with a disengaging device allowing the said pick-up cylinders to be made inoperative when necessary.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature.
EUGENE MARIUS VEYRON.
